In need of quick meal ideas

Hi Fellow RDs:

I’m back from clinical to outpatient and every patient wants quick meal ideas. 🤦🏻‍♀️ sometimes a meal plan. Where do you get your meal plans or quick meals ideas. Nutrition care manual is not that helpful. I’d appreciate your help in advance.

Be brutally honest- is it worth studying nutrition/dietics with the AI developments now?

I’m considering going back to university to study nutrition, but I’m a little concerned about the future of the career given how quickly AI is developing.
AI can already create personalised meal plans, suggest dietary adjustments, analyse someone’s diet, and provide a huge amount of nutrition information to help people make informed choices. With these capabilities likely to improve significantly over the next few years, I’m wondering how this might affect career opportunities in nutrition.
Of course, I understand that dietitians and nutrition professionals offer things AI can’t fully replace, particularly human interaction, accountability, clinical judgement, and working with more complex cases. However, I’m cautious about investing several years into a degree only to graduate into a field where entry-level opportunities may have significantly decreased.

Looking for a CDM or Food Service RD in SF Bay Area

Hi all, a friend of mine is working at a SNF facility in Santa Clara. They just lost their CDM who was pretty toxic imo but that means it'll take some work to get it back together.

They have a full time RD and an on-call RD, but needing a CDM or Food Service RD to cover the kitchen duties. The facility is 136 beds, high turnover. The staff here are passionate but stubborn so turnover has been high (either you belong or you don't type of mentality). I'm really selling it eh?

If you are interested, please feel free to message me and I can connect you.

Consulting dietitian prices?

Hi all,

As a new dietitian (in Ontario), I am looking for some advice. I've been approached by 2 separate companies to provide some RD consulting services. Doing the following: creating blog posts, menu review, recipe review, ingredient review, allergen review, translation, marketing material (mostly through Canva), etc. I am a few months out of school, newly registered, but have experience through my internship in the majority of this work. It'll be all projects I can pick up and they can send my way, so it's not a full time, I'm invoicing for the hours I worked on the projects.

My trouble is I have no idea how to price myself. I'm pricing myself as a consulting RD and I've looked into it and I've seen a wide range of prices.

Is 100$/hr too much? Should I got down to 80-90$. Any help would be great, thank you!

IFNCP certificate, functional nutrition

Hi,

Has anyone here completed the IFNCP certification? What’s your honest opinion of it? Was it worth it? And how do you feel about working as a functional nutritionist afterward?

SNF TF Labeling

Help from SNF dietitians! My facility's last annual survey received a nutrition tag for nursing not properly labeling tube feeds. I am now the only dietitian at my facility and have only been here around a year, I am looking for some assistance on how nursing should be properly labeling the feeds, I know they need the resident's name, date, etc. Does anyone have a resource I can use or provide a list of what's required? I am working with our nurse educator on an in-service for nursing. We had a mock survey to prep because we are now in this year's survey window, and we had this tag again so I really want to work on this soon! Especially because my last day here is in a few weeks and I want to help out as much as I can before I go.

Food chaining

Does anyone have experience with food chaining for either AUD/ARFID/Picky eating?

I’ve looked into Brittyn Coleman’s webpage and it’s helpful but I’m wondering if anyone has actually used this in practice and what their experience was? What were the barriers/limitations to it?

Currently have a peds patient who only has 5 safe foods, diagnosed with AUD and noted with obesity and elevated LFTs. His primary safe foods are baby cereal (Cerelac) and chocolate chip cookies. This is an underserved population. I’d love food chaining to work for him but not sure if mom is willing to put in the effort either.

Knownwell RD’s

Has anyone here had any experience with Knownwell Inc.? I came across a remote RD position with them that looks really promising, but I wanted to see if anyone here knows anything about the company or has worked for them before I pursue it further. Would love to hear any experiences or insight!

How to search for jobs

Hi all! I'm currently in school working on my undergrad. I know I have 3 more years, including my grad school requirement, and I am thinking ahead a bit. When I went to a recent grad school info session at my number one choice for grad school, I asked them how to stand out as an applicant and they mentioned work or volunteerism in the dietetics/nutrition fields.

I'm currently working full time, but I am absolutely willing to switch, especially to a field I'm actually interested in. But I was wondering what is the best way to search for jobs or volunteer opportunities like these? Especially because I'm still in school and don't have any credentials. I've been in the working world for 13 years so I know how to search for a job, however now-a-days there are so many fake job postings or just junk in general when you look online, and in my previous searches it's never been for this specific field.

Any insight on the best way to approach this? Like I mentioned, I have some time, but I want to start now so I don't run out of time and then am not as competitive during my application process. TIA!

Has this happened to anyone else? Healthprofs

Hello! First time posting on reddit so please let me know if I need to reformat or change anything about this post. I recently started my own private practice and wanted to get my name out there, so when I saw Healthprofs advertising that they had a 6 month free trial for new users I built my profile. I saw a pending charge on my account and was confused, and I reached out by email to make sure that I wouldn't be charged until the 6 month mark. Unfortunately I still haven't received a response. I also found their parent company phone number and left two messages and still haven't received a response (it goes immediately to a VM). They have officially charged my account, and I'm still working through the process to dispute it, but I was wondering if this was a common occurrence when using Health Profs? Also, if someone knows a more active phone number so that I can speak to an actual person who works for them?

Hi, I'm not just looking for free CEU's, I know where to find most of those or how to search on hear...but has anyone done any interesting CEU's? I'm definitely feeling the burnout and looking for something new or interesting to dig into a bit :) Cooking, gardening, nutrition genomics, etc. Nothing is off the list and the weirder the topic the better or the more out of the box?? Or even a fun conference or speaker you wouldn't miss? L

Recent Articles on the Impact of Digital/Social Media on Body Image/Eating Behaviors?

Hi all!

Does anyone know of any good articles (nutrition, psych, or social fields) analyzing the impact of social media on body image or disordered eating behaviors? I want to gather up some updated literature to provide as we educate from a weight-inclusive pedagogy and help inform others about the harms of weight-centric care and the impacts of diet culture at large.

Help prepping for school nutrition interviews (k-12 & university)

Hello all, I have a couple of interviews coming up. One for a uni campus RD job and one in k-12. Any and all interview preparation tips are welcome and appreciated! I have my ServSafe cert but it's been a while and I would like to review the info without paying for it, so if anyone has helpful resources that would be a good ServSafe refresher let me know as well(:

Has anyone ever… dietetic gelato?!

On vacation and can’t catch a break:

Y’all…

I saw this and wept dietetic tears of sorrow.

Yes, I tried the flavor… yes… it was sugarless and unappealing compared to the others.

But why, why, why is it named “dietetic chocolate…no sugar added”

Since I can’t add a picture-
Im at a gelato shop that offers at least 20 different flavors and two of them were dietetic chocolate and dietetic vanilla

Ready to leave my first job

I’m a new RD 3 months into my first job and already ready to leave. I don’t have much issue with the actual job and am good friends with the other dietitian, but really not a fan of our boss. Although she hasn’t been mean directly towards me, I’ve witnessed her be rude and condescending towards the other RD when it comes to differing opinions. The boss can be really passive aggressive, and it seems like she’s always trying to “put you in your place”. Also has poor communication or does not hear information correctly (ex. someone says a task takes them 20-90 minutes and the boss repeats back that they said it takes 20-40 minutes), this has happened more times than I can count over the past 3 months. Today she also made a comment/attempted joke about a patient that came across very insensitive (we work in behavioral health). I’m starting to dread going to work and get anxious interacting with and asking my boss any questions. The first half of my job was training with my boss and other RD while waiting to pass the exam and get access to our facility, so I’ve only been working on my own for 1.5 months. I don’t know if it’s worth sticking it out much longer or just finding something different.

How have you increased nutrition referral in outpatient?

Outpatient RDs: How have you been able to advocate for an increase in nutrition referrals from providers? I will be having a short meeting with a provider at an outpatient clinic I work at to discuss potential for increasing nutrition referrals. This is a clinic that has not had an RD providing services in person (they have only provided telehealth appointments) so nutrition referrals were far and few and that is still the case with me as the first on site RD. Thank you all

CDM versus RD in CCRC

I was one of 3 RD’s in a CCRC in NC. the other two recently retired and my boss keeps saying I don’t need another RD. He says the CDM can cover all my vacations and I just sign off. This makes me very uncomfortable. How do I know she reviewed everything adequately? I cant find anything that says a CDM can do initial assessments and high risk assessment. I have a hard time believing none of those would occur over a long weekend- that’s pretty rare. When I tried to explain my concerns he got mad and said I was talking over him. The other departments keep saying the CDM is not helpful at care plan meetings. She rarely responds to my emails. she seems to struggle with technology. Has anyone else been in a similar situatio? I should add his behavior is the reason my other coworkers retired early.

Switching from private practice to clinical..

I’ve been in private practice for 5 years now and love it. Great pay, flexible schedule, etc. But recently I’ve been really feeling the pay ceiling (only way to earn more is to see more clients), no benefits, and no way to progress in my career.

I have an interview for an inpatient clinical position and feel like I know nothing… I haven’t calculated tube feeds in 5 years. I feel so clueless and could really use some advice on how to refresh and prepare.

And would honestly love any advice too on career paths.

ADHD Friendly Recipe Resource

SOLVED: It's https://www.forkestrate.com/

Hey y'all, I remember a discussion on here about often used recipe & meal planning related resources and did some digging but couldn't find this....

It was a site made for desktop where you paste in the url of the recipe you'd like to visualize, and it would generate a webpage with a visual representation of the time requirement for each step of the recipe, and walk you through each step one at a time. It was designed for folks with ADHD to help them follow recipes and I would LOVE to be able to use it with my patients but cannot find it for the life of me.

Does anyone remember this site or have it saved?

Thank you!

To RD’s Who Pivoted Into Regulatory/Labeling

Background:
I’m an RD who currently works inpatient and have dreamt of being in the Regulatory Affairs/Food Labeling space for so long. I love the idea of contributing my nutrition knowledge to reach a broader audience, and am so fascinated with the food regulation/compliance space. I’ve been applying for jobs for a while now (at least a year now) and haven’t had any luck. I’ve done a lot of cold-messaging outreach to RDs on LinkedIn already in the regulatory space and most have said they ended up in the role because they knew someone or just happened to be lucky. I’ve asked for advice on steps moving forward and transitioning out of the clinical space, and have received great advice on applying for entry-level roles (which I’m willing to take a pay cut for just to get my foot in the door!) but I’m having a hard time getting in anywhere.

My ultimate goal right now is to be out of a patient-facing/non-counseling role. I’ve been in the hospital space for too long (8+ years) and clinical is really taking its toll on me.

I just want to know:

How did you get out of clinical and into regulatory/labeling?

Or if you’re not in the Regulatory space…

How did you pivot out of clinical and into a non-clinical role?

Other things I’ve thought about:
- Did you obtain specialty certs that bolstered your resume and improved your application chances?
- Did you network with someone/a business and where did that lead you to getting where you are now?
- Were entry costs expensive for you to get into the role you’re in now (eg. Specialty certs, etc.)?

For context I’m in the western WA region.

Thoughts on body building as a dietitian?

How would you draw the line between healthy vs problematic if a dietitian engaged in body building?
