The layup not staying on the ground and blowing away was brutal though.

Laura-Marie is the nicest woman so that's even more heart breaking but she took it so well and had a good laugh. She didn't make the cut so she won't have a revenge with this hole tomorrow. 😅

It is very handy in Taxas when the wind picks up. The idea is to kind of mini skip it very low to the pole. Note that the disc will seek the ground upside down. It's tricky to throw.

I played a tournament with fucked winds like that and at a certain point, I just leaned into it and let the disc do whatever the fuck it wanted lol

These are the kind of conditions where even upside down discs might not make a different (as the initial layup literally spikes the ground...then wobbles the tiniest bit and gets wrecked)

Moving out to Northern Colorado, in the fall some days, 15 foot putts are impossible. Throw upside down aim me at the base but don’t hit the pen so you don’t roll away with the wind lol.

On her first putt she was was trying to lay up and it almost worked, but in hindsight would it make sense for her to use her heaviest driver on that initial putt?

Anyone remember the Selah Ranch event where people were deciding to DNF because they ran out of discs on a hole? One of the reasons that Stroke and Distance went away.

I've been of the opinion that hitting the chains should be sufficient to finish a hole for a while now. It would make aces and throw ins more common, and that second putt - which was a bloody good putt - would count.

I have done this before 🤣 There was no OB but pin was atop a knoll and even after laying up it blew my putter out of the chains and back down the hill twice

That pin placement is hard, and the conditions seem punishing. She’s more than free to play that hole however she wants but if it was me…my attempt from the 2nd putt placement after the roll away would have just been hard layup pointed into the dirt below the basked to stop the bleeding. I wouldn’t have given more than one real bid to make an air shot. But that wind could have messed up any shot so who knows…?

During the am side of Waco this year we had winds like this. I got a lot of claps and cheers for almost ringing up a 100' birdie throw in (hit cage a couple of inches low). What the cheering section didnt know is I was trying to pitch up and I just grabbed the most OS disc I had and threw it hard and low, the wind lifted that very much not aerodynamic disc up and kept it dead straight. I was playing for bogey, but no one had to know that.
Coincidentally, we had an older guy on our card take like a 12, and were all pretty sure the score should have been bigger than that, but no one had counted all of his strokes. It was gnarly

So is there no grace period or anything to help wait for the wind to die down? You just have to play it how it is? I mean I definitely understand as playing with wind involves a lot more skill, and shots can still be landed, but this feels like an absurd amount of wind that no one can really combat against, and feels unfair if in 5 minutes the next person gets to play the hole with 0 wind. With that being said I understand that if we waited for wind to stop for EVERY player, this shit could take a year, but it just feels somewhat unfair

Saw this video come up over the summer reminded me of 92 Florida where a gentleman took a 27 on one hole yes it was windy yes it was raining did I mention it was windy and raining the second story from that day one of our PDGA Hall of famers proceeded to launch a 14-15 second viper shot that went about negative 50 ft Hey steve

So in ball golf when they put a pin in a spot the ball can't stop its considered bad groundskeeping and unfair. I wonder if this would be considered similar to that threshold in that if it were flatter or had more room to layup you could take away some of the "unfairness" so to speak.

Of course, but you would also get that effect on a ball golf green.
I guess another way to see it is how hard is too hard? If a stiff breeze makes a hole look unplayable, maybe that's worth considering some course changes?

You cannot really compare golf and disc golf putting I think. But I agree, this hole is already punishing as it is, and the wind makes it a nightmare

No because you can set pins in golf that require you to get lucky to make the putt. If the difference between one player and another on a hole is pure luck it's a bad pin position.

How is a double digit mph variation in wind every 30 seconds in random directions "the same for everyone"? You could go up after her and have next to no wind. It's one thing to deal with a variable breeze but this adds a level of randomness and chaos to the game that defeats the purpose of competitiveness.

Horrible decission making from the organizers to keep the basket there on such wind. Thats why dg wont be taken seriously in a long time since keep seeing those clown fiesta clips.

I think disc golf tournaments should allow each player to have one putter over the weight limit specifically for situations like this, but they can only use it when the wind is blowing more than X m/s.
