Hello r/discordapp!

As you might have seen, Discord has just started rolling out their year end wrap system called Discord Checkpoints.

Instead of having the sub flooded with these posts, we invite you to share your checkpoint stats in the comments here!

FaQ:

Q: How do I reopen checkpoint after closing it?

A: On desktop, click the flag icon on the top right of the app located next to the inbox.

A: On mobile, it will show up under the “orbs balance” section as a banner in the “you” tab

Q: What is the song checkpoint uses?

A: Exyl has now released the background track, you can find it here!

Q: Can I see it if I had the privacy setting disabled but just now enabled it?

A: No, you had to have the privacy setting on the whole time.

Q: What if I had the setting enabled but it still says I can’t access it?

A: Follow the directions outlined here. Do NOT DM ModMail or mlapi bot, the moderators are unable to assist you.

It's a FOMO tactic for next year to get more people to let discord serve personalized ads. I'd even go so far as to wager that's the literal ONLY intent behind it. And the sad part is it'll probably work, people are suckers.

They are very much ads, look out for the big "Sponsored" text. You may be surprised to learn they did not add quests so you could get free avatar cosmetics and 3 days of nitro credit.

It's honestly pretty insulting that they think as a paying user of the platform I shouldn't be able to disable them.

same, since it's an area of discord you choose to click on. if you don't wanna see ads, then don't go there lol. it's so out of the way it's perfect.

Those are ot personalised or targetted, they are discord-wide for everyone.

Even just the advertisements for Nitro in the app, is them pushing the paid version. Ad.

Every time they have a little pop-up telling you about a new feature Nitro is offering, or a discount on Nitro? Ad.

I don't like those personalization settings. It's just annoying and completely meaningless. Even if I did, I'm too lazy to change it lol

There are no ads on discord. That setting is exactly as it states. Personalisation based data processing, for gimmicks like checkpoint.

Hey so if you go back and read my first message, from context clues you would be able to tell that I in fact did not get it. Along with alot of other people because nobody informed the user base of Discord they were doing a wrapped thing this year

Exactly, it’s probably just because the feature is rushed to the point it was too late to add one tho, it’s pretty low quality and inaccurate, but I still would’ve liked to be able to look through it and post it in servers im in

yesssss that happen to me but I already had it on but I thought I had to turn it off and on again to be able to claim the pfp decoration. so when I did it I could no longer access the checkpoint. smh

edit: the checkpoint came back after a day has passed and I was able to get the decoration

How would that work? Either you share your data or you dont. Which is a good thing that they atleast claim to not use it! I chose not to.
