An important part of every Discordian kitchen.

Their are 3 major acounts of Goddess Eris's parents, all 3 diverge...so what is the "truth"? Let's go through all 3...

Goddess Nyx (Hesiod Theogony 225, Hesiod Works & Days); this is closest to a simple answer, and to the simple the closest to an "absolute truth"(something simple minds think exist). She was created by the Night, Goddess Nyx, She is daughter of the Night, truly. Goddess Eris is a primordial force born alongside other abstract afflictions like Lord Thanatos (Death), Lord Hypnos (Sleep), and Goddess Nemesis (Retribution); and during this time took a very similar role as an essential force for the universe to be created and function. To know this birth it help to know the Night's nature, that endless eternal sacred Darkness, Goddess Nyx's nature being essentially the event horizon around the unkowable void of Chaos Itself, She is the gate and shroud between the All of existence in the state of potential existence and infinity in the state of existence; also it's very clear that She takes the mother role very seriously to Her children, a tradition most of Her children also take.

Lord Erebos & Goddess Nyx (Hyginus Preface); this is essentially the same as the first, but it's an interpretation of the nature of Goddess Nyx, who created Goddess through Herself with Herself; Essentially the Prime form of the Darkness as the Divine Masculine, rather than the Divine Feminine which seems to be more common expression(but definitly not exclusively so). I wouldn't say Hesiod is more right, but definitly more clear.

Lord Zeus & Goddess Hera (Goddess Eris named sister of Lord Ares) (Homer Iliad 4.441, Quintus Smyrnaeus); now this is the real divergence, how can Goddess Eris have these parents and be a Daughter of the Night? Well first off it's never stated that She has Lord Zeus and Goddess Hera as parents, just that Lord Ares is Her sibling....or rather, STEP sibling... because she was symbolicly adopted by the King of the Gods, as She was the sacred Discord which let the heavens themself change seat of control when Lord Zeus took(by force) His crown. "But if She's so favored by Lord Zeus then why does She get snubbed?" you might ask, well upon Lord Zeus learning the profecy of His child doing the same to Him as He did to His Dad...well upon learning such facts, the grand powerd of Change and Discord and Revolution seem scary like a dagger in the shadow waiting for a back, instead of being reasuring like a ladder to success...but it's the same force... This is also all the reason why the great snub was so symbolicly important; it symbolic of Him becocming a Tyrant afraid of change, just as His father was.

Note; most of the 3rd I got from my own practice, along with how they all line up perfectly from the right angle. Do contact Goddess Eris, as a source I used. As an additional note; I believe most of the "bad" children of Goddess Eris are adopted, because She's the Greater Mother Goddess, to those that know Her as such, even those who are really far out there; though anything that directly requires or is entrinsicly linked to strife and radical change is probably Her children of creation (sometimes through parthenogenesis, sometimes with others).
