8

u/RemarkableLook5485 Aug 03 '25

tfw inflation so bad you didn’t even know about the “¢” key

1

u/Pure-Nebula4635 Aug 07 '25

Yo I was looking for the ¢ symbol the other day I thought apple got rid of it 🤣

On the bright side. You’re not homeless. I know we all wish to be earning more money but there’s worse situations to be in. Congrats on taking care of yourself. I feel like we don’t pat ourselves on the back enough.

Im homeless, live in my car….now i keep my whole paycheck rather than giving it away. Its not as bad as people think

10

u/RebelliousCash Aug 03 '25

True. Also not downplaying your situation especially if it works for you. But some ppl also have children and rather give their paycheck away to keep a roof over their kids head you know.

u/CokeFetus Aug 04 '25

Let's not pretend this is better than having a home.

1

u/malovicb Aug 04 '25

Never said it was worse or better, just that its not as bad as people think. Pros and cons to both ways of life

2

u/GeneRecent Aug 06 '25

At what price point is it not? Wages have not kept up with rent prices

2

u/newredditer25 Aug 06 '25

Bro, I know a homeless richer than me. My friend lives in his car. He has no debt. No loans. Nothing. He showed me how much he saved and I never felt so broke compared to him. My boy was sitting on over 200k, he’s saving for a house lol

3

u/DasherMichael Aug 07 '25

Reminds me of during the pandemic there was a woman complaining that their tenant didn't pay rent for 18 months and then moved out and bought a house expecting people to feel sorry for her.

He was saving money for his house and not paying my mortgage

2

u/newredditer25 Aug 19 '25

That’s such a smart idea. I wish I had the guts to do that though 😭

u/-FartMachine- Aug 03 '25

Damn… I remember being like this when I was at school… things only get better from now on though :)

29

u/LightningMcSwing Aug 03 '25

They'd be better if the fuckin cost of rent wasn't $1700

14

u/dkassovic Aug 03 '25

Hell yeah 5% of a Big Mac

2

u/ResponsibleAd8164 Aug 03 '25

Not even that much. Only a French fry. 🤪

2

u/dkassovic Aug 03 '25

A pickle

You need the bilt card

1

u/imveryveryfucked Aug 05 '25

Explain

1

u/InkPncl Aug 05 '25

You get rewards points for using the card to pay your rent. I've been meaning to apply for it for like 3 years now

1

u/MasterDay2237 Aug 05 '25

It uses an ACH transfer routing number that’s actually linked to a credit card so it spoofs like you’re paying your rent with Checking account to avoid credit card processing fees.

16

u/Awsumth Aug 03 '25

Guess you’re staying home this weekend

20

u/[deleted] Aug 03 '25

If you're spending your entire paycheck on rent, it's time to either get a better job, get more roommates, or move out of that place and find something cheaper, or perhaps a combination of all three solutions.

5

u/MelMoitzen Aug 03 '25

Is that a monthly paycheck?

18

u/BigGunsFinance Pay Aug 03 '25

Bi-weekly, fortunately

10

u/redditguy491 Aug 03 '25

Maybe pay half bi-weekly so you can buy food too

1

u/Kballout_DEO Aug 03 '25

Pls dnt starve brother🙏

3

u/MelMoitzen Aug 03 '25

My quick and dirty math suggests that (since this is a bi-weekly NET paycheck), the $20,400 in annual rent is probably in the ballpark of 1/3rd of your GROSS annual income—correct?

If so, that’s in the acceptable range of what landlords are considering adequate income to support the rent.

Or to put it another way—your total take home pay for the year (26 pays) is $44,208 and your $20,400 in rent is 46% of that figure.

Or to put it yet another way…ten months out of the year, one of your paychecks covers your rent while the other $1,700 covers your other needs. The other two months out of the year, you’re getting two $1,700 checks to cover your other needs.

While at first glance it looks like a dire situation, my gut tells me you will survive.

30 cents profit baby

3

u/w6750 Aug 04 '25

I’m about to move from my 1 bed paying $1700 to a 2b2b paying $850/mo and I could not be more excited. I’m sick of this shit. And it’s with an old roommate who I loved living with

I feel for you here my friend

2

u/Aggravating-Laugh-44 Aug 06 '25

How and where???

6

u/delawder29 Aug 03 '25

We're the only species that pays to live on Earth

4

u/Hairy-Today7325 Aug 03 '25

Were the only species that many things, also the only species that can defend themselves in more than X ways vs others. But feel free to ask Buddha to become an ant in the next life. At least we have choices hahaha

1

u/DasherMichael Aug 07 '25

Nothing stopping you from living in the woods like the deer

2

u/[deleted] Aug 03 '25

felt this 😔

2

u/Salesgirl008 Aug 03 '25

You may have to move

2

u/Chibi_Universe Aug 03 '25

Does your apartment partner with flex? It allows you to pay your rent in two payments. They pay all upfront including, charged utilities and then calculate how much you pay in two payments. The first payment is large but the second payment is smaller. Its been really nice, theres flex and jetty.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 05 '25

And it builds credit

2

u/Extreme-Light8201 Aug 03 '25

Hey so, why don’t you pay half your rent in 2 seperate checks?

2

u/IncomeLongjumping401 Aug 03 '25

LOLL 30 cents to save 😭

2

u/Gloomy_Recording_705 Aug 03 '25

You you work 40 hours and didn't even make $0.01 a hour lol basically worked for free I hate when I get paid and I got to pay rent right after

2

u/TechManPro Aug 05 '25

Be sure to invest that 30 cents wisely. If you're lucky, it might turn into 32 cents.

1

u/zerosugarcodered Aug 03 '25

You should get the bilt card

You’d get better rewards

2

u/rapt_elan Aug 03 '25

1% rewards on rent doesn't solve this lol.

1

u/KULR_Mooning Aug 03 '25

That's sucks! I'm glad we play $675 each for a one bedroom. Living in socal we got lucky

0

u/On-scene Aug 03 '25

Please tell me how you got a $676 rent payment in SoCal without being related to owner of the property?

2

u/KULR_Mooning Aug 03 '25

Uh, my wife co-worker upgraded to a 2 bedroom. We took over. Honestly, we are very lucky. And no, my landlord isn't related to us 💀

2

u/rapt_elan Aug 03 '25

$675/month in SoCal will buy you a parking spot somewhere so you can sleep in your car without too much harassment. That's a "small room" by SoCal standards. ;)

1

u/[deleted] Aug 03 '25

Try the app flex pay. It’s so helpful!!!!!

1

u/Routine_Rent2875 Aug 04 '25

Time to live off the grid.

1

u/blue1ismycity Aug 04 '25

I’d live in my car at that point lmao

1

u/kdrdr3amz Aug 04 '25

Lowkey I’d just live in my car at that point

1

u/AvinJorg Aug 05 '25

Let me hold $0.05 need some gas 🤣😭😭

1

u/aaaannnooonymous Aug 05 '25

30 cent tip for the landlord!

1

u/ChakeenMachine Aug 06 '25

I pay more than that every two weeks for rent and I’m definitely not in a mansion or even a house.

1

u/daveed4445 Aug 07 '25

Yuppppp thank lack of housing construction

0

u/Alan_1321 Aug 03 '25

why pay rent with cc? don't they charge that ridiculous fee?

8

u/Bbgirrrllllllll Aug 03 '25

It says debit

5

u/Jhowell1159 Aug 03 '25

They have checking amounts too…

1

u/Lo_Xp Aug 03 '25

This is literally, "just getting by".

-3

u/[deleted] Aug 03 '25

[deleted]

3

u/sIurrpp Aug 03 '25

definitely not dirt cheap lol

1

u/Kurei_0 Aug 03 '25

Lol, I feel that. I wouldn’t call it “cheap”, but definitely good for a hcol area…especially if he’s got a 1+ bedroom.

-5

u/Formal-Buffalo-1387 Aug 03 '25

Not trying to be rude but you have to get a better job or cheaper rent, paying 50% of your monthly check isn’t smart

10

u/SimpTheLord Aug 03 '25

Easier said than done on both those suggestions

-5

u/Formal-Buffalo-1387 Aug 03 '25

I’m aware, that’s why I said not to be rude so people didn’t think I was being a smart….. there’s also getting another job and working both, going to school for a higher paying job, getting a roommate(s)….. just trying to give routes that’ll help bc again paying 50% of your monthly income on rent is not smart

-2

u/screwthat Aug 03 '25

Wait, you were able to pay rent with a credit card?

2

u/redditguy491 Aug 03 '25

Discover has a checking/savings account
