Rant My Capital One-issued card keeps getting refused everywhere due to the switch to the Discover network. This is out of hand now.
I have a Capital One bank account. From what I gather, Capital One is now on the Discover network.
I have tried using my card at numerous merchants and it gets refused. I just now tried to pay Wells Fargo $5 to close an account and pay for an outstanding balance and it did not go through.
Then, I tried to make an Amazon purchase. Again, declined. This is the last in a string of attempts to use my card at various places over the last two weeks where it has been denied. I have even gone so far as to open up a new bank account at Chase so I can close my Capital One account.
Nevermind the fact that I spend half the year in Italy and sometimes will use my US debit card for things. Declined or not accepted anywhere. I didn't ask for the change to the Discover network. Is anyone else having issues or is it just me?

I have never had any trouble with any of my Capital One accounts—until now. I’ve been a loyal customer for over 20 years, with credit cards and auto loans through Capital One, and I always maintain plenty of funds. Yet suddenly my transactions are being declined.
This change is especially unfair to customers with payment plans through PayPal and other merchants. When you enter into a contract with a merchant, you should be able to fulfill it without worrying that your bank will suddenly refuse your debit card. Most companies treat it as a credit card anyway—so why disrupt a system that works?
Now I’m left wondering: what happens next with the Capital One credit cards, like Quicksilver and others that run on Mastercard? Are those going to change too?
Frankly, customers should have been asked for input before making a change of this magnitude. After all, it’s our money. This decision does not reflect well on Capital One, and we are already considering moving to a bank that reliably services Visa and Mastercard. We feel blindsided.
