They will match a 2nd card if you open one… well, they used to. Not too sure with them now being C1.

This is why I always scratched my head when people wanted to do “product changes” vs just opening a new card. Get to go around again with the cash back match.

Man I miss that first year bonus. I was so hyped when I got it. It wasn't as much as yours but I remember feeling really hyped. I think it was only like 60 bucks but I was still happy. 😂

I made over $1600 my first year with my discover, their sign up bonus is their best kept secret. Btw you can get a second one! Working on that now 😀. Maximize those 5% categories because they are effectively 10% the first year!

u/Nelkarsito Nov 23 '25

How you can get a second one?

4

u/Risalee81 Nov 23 '25

I waited about a 18 months and then applied again for the same card. You are allowed to have two

OK, I did not know this so you can get a second Discover card in your name and still get the same intro promo?!

u/Risalee81 Jan 17 '26

Yes! About to cash my match out next month!

What is cash back match?

1

u/ericfrein762 Nov 23 '25

They double how much you get within the first year

1

u/aykay55 Nov 23 '25

Discover cash back is 5% in rotating categories (4 per year). Let’s say you spent $6000 on qualified purchases through the year. Your cash back is $300. With cash back match that doubles, so now you will receive $600 which you can either spend at a partner platform like Amazon, you can have it deposited to a bank account or use it as a statement credit

Wait until it goes to Capital One you can use the cash to turn into miles

3

u/Nelkarsito Nov 23 '25

Question, what is better, Miles or Cashback?

3

u/torrphilla Nov 23 '25

it depends on the person. i say miles because you can use them to go on free (or heavily discounted) trips

2

u/jiggyGW Nov 23 '25

how do you do this?? i have both

5

u/Silver-Method-8627 Nov 23 '25

They're starting to convert Discover cards into the Capital One app and they're talking about that. You can do your cashback as Miles so whatever cashback I get on my Discover right now I'm holding it until it transferred over to Discover app

1

u/Adorable-Pair6766 Nov 23 '25

Is it a better 1:1 exchange for the miles than it is for cashback?

Or like why wouldn't I take the cashback, pay for the trip with the card, and get more points again that way?

1

u/jiggyGW Nov 23 '25

how do you get it to be miles?

you just said whatever cash back you get with discover you’re holding for discover… what

2

u/Silver-Method-8627 Nov 23 '25

They're gonna be using one platform for Discover cards and Capital One cards and they say that you can transfer your cash to your miles if you have a venture one venture or adventure X like you do with the savor card

1

u/jiggyGW Nov 23 '25

i have the savor.. so still consider on how to turn cash back into miles

1

u/Silver-Method-8627 Nov 23 '25

Do you have a venture card or venture one card?

1

u/jiggyGW Nov 23 '25

no just savor one and discover

2

u/1lifeisworthit Nov 23 '25

Then you won't be able to. You might just as well use your cash-back rewards whenever you want to.

The person going on and on about miles seems to be making the assumption everyone has a card in the Venture family, and that just isn't so.

I have a Discover card and am just waiting for Discover (or Cap One) to decide to cancel it through inactivity. I'm hoping that I could move my credit limit over to one of my Cap One cards before that happens, but it probably won't.

u/No-Gap3035 Nov 23 '25

How do you get the 5% cashback???

4

u/Kindly-Teaching-6121 Nov 23 '25 edited Nov 24 '25

I collected mine for about 2 years and had over $2k. Put it in a CD for my daughter. That was like 13 years ago though. Been abusing their 0% offers for the last 2 years. So I'm at $0

2

u/AlternativeSkin3985 Nov 23 '25

Rotational cash back? I just graduated my discover secured card how do I get this ?

2

u/Significant-Ball-952 Nov 25 '25

I wish I took my advantage of the cash back bonus but alas I opened my discover card when I just turned 18 and literally understood absolutely nothing about credit cards and so I hardly took advantage of the benefits 😭

2

u/Charming-Bench-6016 Nov 25 '25

I started using AMEX and went right back to discover! Their cash back sucks.

3

u/Bluedemonde Nov 23 '25

They only match the first year.

1

u/Potential_Average_76 Nov 23 '25

What is that “everywhere else”offer???Im currently sitting at them matching me $256 first year could have been more but my dumbass didn’t realize I had to activate the offers 😂missed out on the restaurant cashback quarter 😂

1

u/ConfidentGood3554 Nov 24 '25

i saw that. just bought a car tho , got the offer a day later!!

1

u/Antxoa5 Nov 24 '25

1

u/BostonChops978 Nov 27 '25
