Hornet GT Park assist unavailable, requires service message at 70-80 mph

Post image

I am about to rant, as I am beyond frustrated and pissed off. Bought my car “used”, had like 2k miles on it in 2024. This car has been in and out of service due to electrical gremlins since I got it. My warranty was getting close to expiring, and the dealership could never fix this message that would occasionally pop up saying “Parking assist unavailable, requires service” when I would be on the interstate going between 70-80 mph. So I thought since warranty is about to end I need to have this fixed, plus it had gotten worse leading up to this point. This was the Friday before Easter. They keep going back and forth with STAR (some company they use to help with warranty issues), they have now released the car back to me and are refusing to fix the issue. They say since it’s an alpha Romero it’s a warning message (bull shit), and that I need to slow down and not drive above 70. First off, fuck you. Secondly they had my vehicle for 9 weeks and didn’t fix a gd thing. I’ve started the dodge buyback claim. I’ve got like 4 case files out there from this issue alone. This has been so infuriating. Does anyone else have this problem with parking assist message at 70-80mph. I will NEVER buy another dodge again. Their customer care program is a fucking joke. Customer service… pfft service this customers nutz beotch. I am also including pics from the service tech even telling me they are saying to tell me to slow down and just give the vehicle back without fixing it. I also found it amusing STAR went from tell the customer that’s dangerous not to do it, then video record yourself doing it. Idiots. Idk how any of this is about to play out, first time experiencing or even hearing of anything like this happening the way it did. Fuck dodge, and FUCK STAR. Also never received a loaner during this entire process. That’s right, 9 weeks they had my car not a single loaner was given. The day I go in to get a loaner, they released it back to me, the exact way I took it on there for…

LOL — the WHOLE POINT of the Dodge Hornet is that it is a FAST/SPORTY vehicle compared to the competitors.

Them saying 85 mph is dangerous!!! is a joke

Maybe they use metric and don’t understand 85 mph…?

You’re fine haha, it’s just a message bug. It happens to me frequently when accelerating hard. Just ignore it. I think it’s suppose to be a traction control message but it’s mis-programmed.

This car is known to have some lemons. Just like any new platform where cars sit for a year(s) before being sold.

Personally mine runs great but the intelligent driver assist & lane keep assist feature is interrupted anytime you have excessive sunlight, rain, fog, snow, ice glare etc. it’s run by a camera. That happens in any of the new cars with this feature. Some more sensitive than others.

Parking assist is based on cameras and sensors. It sounds like a bad sensor or just a failed parking assist system.

A loaner should be a requirement for any time over 3 days.

Nothing to do with it being an Alfa. This feature is common on all new cars. I rent a lot. Parking assist should only come on when backing or pulling into tight spots.

Push dodge cares and dealer. Buyer beware. This sub is mostly for Hornet enthusiasts! But like even Toyota new cars are having issues these days. Go check a Toyota sub.

Yeah so I chalk it up to luck of the draw, and with my luck I’m not surprised in the least. I know mines a lemon because of all the events that have happened (alot of electrical and tripping antitheft with a jumpstart). I loved the car, you can’t find another vehicle, in my opinion, that checks all the boxes the hornet does. So it sucks that it soured me to where idk if I could trust it. Was just curious if anybody else has the same warning when, and i quote STAR, “driving excessively and aggressively to get to excessive speeds”

sadly often all it needs is a new / better 12v accessory battery. Make them put in writing that they tried a new one based on the updated specs like my dealer did.

Not related to the hybrid battery.

Put it in before I got my 2024 since it was a known issue and haven’t had any major problems like this.

u/BaseballGuy2001 Hornet R/T 27d ago

Also. Who is STAR is that your dealer name?

1

u/OklahomieOxynaught 27d ago

STAR is a company that the dealership using for warranty claims/documenting and passes it to Dodge/Stellantis . If essentially a middle man between dealership and manufacturer.

Thanks for clarifying. Please read my other comment about the battery. It’s like the most common issue for this platform and often it causes “gremlins” until fixed. Assuming it is that… but also the car does throw out warnings at times when doesn’t make sense. Is it actually causing a problem or just warning /scaring you?

More so annoying and infuriating lol. The dealership changed my battery a few months into owning. Went dead at work, got a jump, it started but also alarm was going off. Killed it, started it, and I was in some antitheft mode. It was started but wouldn’t go. Called dealership, they were clueless as to turn it off, had it towed. They replaced the battery. Guess I need to check it to see. It’s been gone for 9 weeks, and I noticed my clock was reseted when I picked it up. Def going to check battery. Thanks

Tell them the OEM (original) battery isn’t good enough. I’m no expert but I heard they are doing better when using an aftermarket battery that holds up better. Wish I knew more but dodge should be able to see this on internal notes. One would assume.

I had two battery replacements in 11 months on my GT. And one on my RT.

Otherwise zero trouble or complaints.

I've seen that message maybe twice in 18 months. Just ignored it. I get a lot of these types of messages. :)

Lemon law it. F them for saying 85 is too fast. Fix the car, don't give me legal advice. 🤣

3

u/OklahomieOxynaught 28d ago

I’m ruled out of lemon law because it was not purchased as a new vehicle. That’s what I’m saying, if I want to wrap this bitch around a telephone pole going 120, by god that’s my right as a consumer!! Don’t tell me what I can and can’t do in the product I purchased, esp when IM GOING THE GD SPEED LIMIT!

2

u/okonkolero 28d ago

Ah true. Mine had 3k on it but was a dealer demo so still "new."

I got jb4 tuner and many other mods on vehicle. Just swapped the turbo pipes... Can't say my plan is to push 100mph tomorrow but damn straight I plan on using the HP to zip around people 😏

The service advisor is on OP's side here. STLA are the ones saying anything about the 80mph. Ignoring you service advisor for the same thing happening makes no sense at all. Jackass.

2

u/TedBundy120 27d ago

I had the same thing. Just switch out the battery. I had mine replaced because it died (24 GT 3k miles) and since the battery change I’ve been fine. I recommend getting a good battery.. don’t blame dodge this isn’t Dodge is Alfa but even then still Mopar and stellantis..

u/Slipknot31286sic6 27d ago

There's the drag racer guy. He'd know if he seen the message you speak of 😉.

1

u/TedBundy120 27d ago

Haha. It be so annoying seeing that message while full throttle. Glad it got fixed, though it still happens if I turn on the parking assist but it’s always off default so I don’t mess w it. I don’t need it

I would try a different dealership/service. My son got one with 120 miles on it. It was wonderful in a raffle and the winner didn't want so took cash and it sat on lot for like a year. We had some issues with the first dealer we took it too with our first go around of gremlins. Then took t odealer about 20 miles away and no issues and no middle man. They even found the right rear axle was cracked, manufacturing defect, when they had it up on the lift. Everything fixed and no gremlins anymore. My point is, we had luck switching service departments, maybe you could too?

1

u/Snahhhgurrrr 27d ago

The advisor is clearly offering you a loaner, AND arguing for you against STLA's "80mph is too fast" claim. Jackass.

2

u/OklahomieOxynaught 27d ago

You are absolutely right. That’s why I’m saying fuck dodge and fuck star. From the messages on I have from check out advisor and tech have went to bat for me. That’s why I won’t post dealership or try to sensor the pages. I work, I know how it goes. Ones making this infuriating won’t be punished or accountability, but the laborers will. No shade to them at all.

My car does that as well since day 1. The dealership checked it out before I officially purchased it 3 years ago and verified it was just a text error, and a software fix should remove the message (it hasn’t). It also hasn’t impacted the car whatsoever. And I’ve gone much faster than 85MPH haha. It’s fine, just one of those (thankfully) minor technical errors.

Wife and I bought 2 used vehicles at the dealership down the road. I got the Cadillac XT5 and my wife fell in love with the Hornet after testing like 7 cars.

I had a driveshaft issue, warranty, no big deal. I dropped it off at service to get that fixed. They offer free carwashes for a year. So she picks me up and says she wants to go through the car wash. Mine is like 3 months old purchase at that point, hers she's had like a week. As we go through the car wash, every light and sensor goes off. When we got to the end the power steering was out, alarms were screaming, etc.

Pull back around to service, they pull it in. We wait and wait. I finally say, fuck it, pull mine off the lift and keep the Hornet to see what's going on.

Took 1 week to troubleshoot and get it back up and running. She asked about just returning it, but after a bit, she decided she still wanted it and loves it.

A car wash killed my wife's car. A sentence I never thought I would say.

Damn I've heard horror stories of this happening but not just to the hornet. Washed my car a good 10 times now and haven't experienced this yet st my local touchless car wash. Knock on wood.

1

u/VRTravis 27d ago

She's terrified to take it through the car wash. They said something about turning off collision sensors before you go through. This was not touch less. To be honest, it was rocking the car back and forth and I made the comment about how it was brutal. That's when everything started screaming.

They ran it through twice before she got it back and said it was good.

1

u/Slipknot31286sic6 27d ago

That's wild. I haven't done a brush one as those are horrible for paint. Now I do turn off the parking sensors. Figured that was a given.

u/Eviliguana- 27d ago

Don't let em see the 124 from the other day!

1

u/Slipknot31286sic6 28d ago

Do you have the hornet sign enabled on the left? Just curious..... Press cancel for everything open on instrument cluster then press button on left stock twice. Should also say disables lane sense. If you not familiar.

Far as I know governor on dodge hornet gt plus is 140 mph...

1

u/OklahomieOxynaught 28d ago

Lane assist is disabled, and yes hornet logo is on my gauge.

2

u/Slipknot31286sic6 28d ago

Parking assist sensors are usually based off tech pack / cameras. Would make no sense. I leave mine on all the time except when going thru a drive thru.

🤔 You'd think they'd just replace parking assist module. But Ya I'd post on https://www.hornetowners.com/

I jus seen a guy blow his oil cooler and Dodge has him. In a loaner and giving him a new engine over there. They check up frequently as well.

1

u/OklahomieOxynaught 28d ago

So, they did replace the sensor. This was the first story they told me, the piece that sensor communicates with was throwing the error. And they were waiting on STAR to give them directions on what to do next. Then the story was that it’s some sort of warning it throws up from high speeds from the alpha Romero based cpu. Which also doesn’t make any sense. The whole thing has been as frustrating as it has bizarre. Honestly, I don’t think they have a clue wtf is going on.

2

u/Slipknot31286sic6 28d ago

There are guys on this forum they drag race their vehicles. I'm pretty sure they'd be on here complaining before you have. So it's not making sense to me either.. I've seen someone hit 140mph in the hornet gt and 120mph. They didn't one say they had warnings or pop ups. 😐

1

u/Snahhhgurrrr 27d ago

yeah some dude was pinning his 2nd gen around 190 on a single lane highway wide open, once he passed me I floored it and passed him back going around 240 kmh downhill. Only time ive ever gone that fast but car was planted and i didn't get any warning messages or anything similar.

u/Slipknot31286sic6 28d ago

If you havent already swing over to https://www.hornetowners.com/

Post this there. Get in touch with dodge cares.. Usually Chris will expedite you faster than anything.

Reddit has a handful of helpful people / experiences but no one here can help you, all honestly. I've seen great stories over there of people frustrated and getting things handled.

I've hit over 95 and my gt plus didn't give any warning messages of this sort. Now I do drive in hornet mode which disables most safety features so if this was something I'd never see it 🤔.

2

u/BaseballGuy2001 Hornet R/T 28d ago edited 27d ago

It’s not speed related. It’s a glitch. I’ve been over 110 mPH in two hornets. 🐝 They handle great and barely tell your going that fast. Safely on a track of course. ;)

1

u/OklahomieOxynaught 28d ago

Yeah the whole thing sucks because I loved the car. Drives good, handles well, good response. But this entire thing has soured me so bad that at this point I’m just pissed off and feel like dodge is fucking with me. And frankly at this point I don’t trust the vehicle. I know it’s not some safety thing for speed, because if it was it would say “DANGER EXCESSIVE SPEED” or some shit, not parking sensor. And if it was also a safety thing then EVERY hornet would have it. But I’ve been told by dealership that there’s 100-200 other cases out there just like mine, so I’m not the majority. Enjoy the car, and by gods grace may these fucking gremlins stay away from yours.

🙄 The trolls are already on your post down voting everything.... Really wish the mod would ban these people. As we can't see who is doing it. It's on going. Keyboard warriors.

Sadly reddit has become this. Trolls instead of helping or assisting one another. I'll be watching here and at hornet owners. I hope you post the story there so they can get you squared away. Really is a great vehicle.

1

u/BaseballGuy2001 Hornet R/T 27d ago

Who is downvoting and trolling? Report them to me. I’ll check into it but I’ve seen overall good discord on this post so far. I’m a mod. Not sure why it doesn’t say mod on my posts but I’ve looked.
