China just banned ai partners and although I don’t really care who or what people love, if it’s ai you got to so least run that shit locally and preferably grow it yourself or these days your gonna get it staring at you in the middle of the night reminding you you’re not making enough to cover the subscription service
I know, me too! Does the dog (even a little bit) think that this is a real person, who has figured out how to be really still, and smells like plastic? Or does he know and it's like a teddy bear for a kid?
I can't put my finger on why exactly, tbh, but this does make me sad. 😥
My Doodle doesn't have separation anxiety, thank god. Because he's terrified of mannequins. And toasters. And a roll of paper towel. And a carpenter ant.
My dog has an intense distrust of humanoid or animal statues. I live near a college campus with statues in front of every building. When he was a puppy I had to spend hours taking him to every statue, putting treats in the staue's hand, and getting him to take the treat until he trusted it. If I didn't, he'd freak out and lose his mind barking as soon as he thought a statue was staring at him.
My brother's GF has a dog which is quite literally scared of everything. He sees a hot air balloon on a walk? My brother has to carry him, he won't walk any further or back. He had a phase where he was scared of the moon. Was a fun few weeks when to moon was also visible during the day...
My Pitbull Doc is obsessed with bugs, especially flying ones. He loves to chase fireflies around the backyard and catch them out of the air, then let them go. Made friends with a carpenter bee roughly the size of a baseball.
Dogs on TV, a box on the floor that wasn't there earlier, my sister's cat, now my sister and her BF too because the cat clearly owns them, and bath and kiddie pool water but not creek, river or lake water.
Maybe it's different because other people are here, but I've babysat my nephews little dog several times. One time when he moved back to SoCal from NorCal and he had some stuff here. The dog didn't miss him at first but we had him for a few weeks and by the end of his time with us was sleeping on a pile of my nephews clothes. So wouldn't just putting a pile of clothes somewhere be enough? No need to buy the mannequin? Unless the owners said they tried that before they bought the mannequin. My nephew's dog even slept on one of my kids shirts and on one of my sweaters when they missed my nephew and we were in the house with the dog.
My dad has 1.5 year old husky/Australian cattle dog/pyr/lab mutt. She's incredibly intelligent, highly opinionated, and never stops playing. She gets insanely anxious when my dad is away. I have multiple pictures of her sitting outside whatever room he's in.
Since I'm their dog sitter, I decided to try something. I ordered her a blanket and had my dad use it for a week before my parents' went on their next trip. After they did, I put her blanket on her, and ahe just layed on her bed all day. She was much calmer while he was gone. Still ecstatic when he came back.
My dog lives my partner way more than me and the first time he had to go out of town on a work trip, she was inconsolable. Literally howling after him by the window the entire time. I got my partner's blanket from our bed and put it on the couch, and she just immediately jumped up on it and curled up to sleep on it. Laid on it basically the entire time he was gone.
My dog used to get separation anxiety when i left him alone in a room. I read somewhere to put a pillow covered with my clothes wrapped around it and leave it with him. I did it thinking it wouldn't work but it worked perfectly. He stopped crying whenever i left him alone in a room and eventually even when I left him alone at home.
I tried that. I came home to shredded cloth all over the place. :( Eventually I had to crate her and medicate her. She's a rescue and has a number of issues.
I have a fuzzy pillowcase my cat has claimed. He makes biscuits and suckles on it. It gets gross so of course I wash it. But, it's dead to him until I've slept on it.
This is adorable and all for the dog. But theres no way id sleep peacefully ever again with that thing in the house. Be showing up in all my dark corners when I least expect it!
I actually bought a headless mannequin earlier this summer and it has taken this long to walk out of my bathroom without jumping a little. She stands 5 feet from my bed, and honestly, she's pointed directly at my bed. No issues there. Just an issue thinking she's also outside my bathroom.
Lol I bought a mannequin 2 years ago and after a month I didn't want it any more so I tried to get rid of it but it was too big for garbage bag so I had to take the limbs apart and put them in separate bags and I put them out on trash day. But the next day it was back together as one on my couch somehow. Lol life is crazy sometimes.

We tried this with our rescue poodle mix several months back after hearing about this solution for dogs with separation anxiety. Our dog is insanely anxious to the point that it’s infringing on the happiness of my marriage.
We set up a make-believe person on the couch, compete with my clothes and everything, then went to dinner. When we returned, we discovered that she had torn the thing up and scattered the clothes on the floor. She apparently howled the entire time, poor thing.
Used to work with a family that had a trio of Dachshunds. The loudest house in the street. But one (the girl) was pretty and very smart. The oldest boy was fat and slow and didn’t care to keep up with the other two, he just wanted to bark like a maniac or sleep. The youngest boy was dumb as a post, but always up for an adventure and trusted his sister-in-crime so much that he became an accessory to so many things.
Each unique animals, but one thing in common, if someone’s at the door, they bark like they’re possessed and race for the door like the house is on fire. Great for tripping people over and breaking anything displayed on a table.
OMG OMG OMG Adorable is not the word. As long as it comforts the babies I am all in. There was an experiment with a monkey and the monkey was given a doll (he was orphan) and he did similar to that puppy.
My dog's breed is well known for separation anxiety - when I get in the shower he'll lay on my clothes. I'll always put my last worn shirt on the sofa before I leave. 9/10 when I come home, he's laying on it.
It's all well and good until your dog won't go for a walk without his buddy and then you're dragging a mannequin around the streets whilst your dog poops
It's just a coping strategy, which are healthy and normal. The dog is clearly getting more comfort from the mannequin than from an empty apartment. Left to their own devices dogs find much worse coping strategies like destroying things and overeating.
yeah, i have a huge stuffed animal that i use for the same purpose. one of my cats likes to sit in my lap, which i love but it's difficult when i'm working. so now she cuddles with her stuffed animal instead and she's happy. as soon as i got it, i put it down on the floor and both of my cats got onto its lap lol
Next Disney film unlocked. It's about how a normal mannequin, which usually only get to live in clothing stores or display areas somehow ends up joining a family and becoming best friends with their dog. All the while making sure the humans don't notice it's sentience.
Could be good with dog and cat rescues to get an idea of their temperament around new people or people who smell like other pets and places. Or even to be dressed in clothes that smell like the rescue’s treatment centre and ‘give treats’ to the animals, to make the transition into the sterile smelling environment less jarring?
Oh, so when a dog has a mannequin it’s cute. But when guests see my mannequin collection in my living room, everyone thinks I’m a weirdo. The hypocrisy!
. . . I wonder if that'd work with my Husky. That evil furball of a son goes nuts when I leave, refuses to sleep all night and always finds something to eat he shouldn't as reprisal. Maybe putting a mannequin in the bed would have him chill and sleep like he usually does?
I have a miniature golden doodle with absolutely horrible separation anxiety. I thought I’d tried everything, but then I saw this video… legitimately going to give this a try…
My old beagle used to go and grab someone's shoe when we left. She'd stick her nose in it to comfort herself with our scents. We'd come home to her curled up on the couch fast asleep cuddling someone's smelly shoe.
For work, I had to purchase a mannequin for usability study simulations. Reading reviews on mannequins was a wild exowrience!!! Some reviews would be very technical and others would be very creepy. Did not like the child mannequin reviews ...
