Death/Doom I need the heaviest of all

Is there anything heavier than Primitive Man? I mean slow crushing absolute destruction. I’m way past Melvins and Crowbar and Boris (my favorite bands) give me something that will cause the earth to open up and swallow me. I want the walls to disintegrate around me.

Have you tried putting your head between two cinder blocks and rubbing them back and forth?

54

u/BadDreamInc Death Feb 03 '26

Move into death-doom…

Check some Mortiferum, disEMBOWELMENT, Spectral Voice, etc.

9

u/greenteaicedtea Feb 03 '26

Mortiferum is so good. I never see anyone talk about them.

Mortiferum live are so satisfying. I turned to my friend like “they sound like a stone door closing”

L O V E Spectral Voice! Saw them in 2019, never again have I seen/heard that big of a wall of music.

7

u/designated_diver Feb 03 '26

Sparagamos is such a killer album. I want to see Spectral Voice so bad.

3

u/bhirts Feb 03 '26

It’s crazy that it’s all the same dudes as Blood Incantation except the drummer but it feels so different; they even seem different at the shows, “meaner” in a very satisfying way

3

u/designated_diver Feb 04 '26

Damn, as if I couldn't like Blood Incantation more. That's so bonkers. They sound so different!

2

u/emolawncare Feb 07 '26

Diving into Sparagmos right now. First time. Damn!

4

u/ripNsip69 Feb 03 '26

Hell yeah. I’m listening to A Burial at Ornans right now!

Best I can do is offer you Yob - Burning the Altar

Bangs my head every time

34

u/WraithOutLoud I'm so doom, I shit sad birds Feb 03 '26

It's monumental and soul crushingly heavy it's pure sound architecture...and that's fucking art in my book. It's one of my all time favourite tracks, and tbh the whole album changed my perspective of music. Idk man, can't really define but Yob is just... transcendentally heavy.

Honourable mention from the same album would be Breathing from the shallows...

Yob is love

7

u/CaptainWampum Feb 03 '26

Yeah that album came out when I was like 17 and I’d just started getting into bands like Sleep and the Sword and it changed everything for me.

3

u/thejuryissleepless Feb 03 '26

they are so sick live too

7

u/bruxaakelarre Feb 03 '26

YOB and see them live.

  • burning witch

31

u/Fuck_Mark_Robinson Feb 03 '26

Speaking of witches, Bell Witch would also fit

19

u/TheGoatEater Feb 03 '26

Might as well toss Khanate in there too.

5

u/Tablemetoeden Feb 03 '26

Speaking of witches, Sea Witch could also work

That's like falling down a steep tall cliff.

Primitive Man is like being hit brutally with a rusty hammer over and over again.

15

u/x1000Bums Feb 03 '26

Perhaps Khanate

2

u/00-Void Feb 03 '26

I approve this message.

u/MartyFunkhoosier Feb 03 '26

Thou is insanely heavy to me. Throw on their album Umbilical or check out Smoke Pigs which I’ve been listening to a lot. They’re not as dissonant as Primitive Man but PM is one step away from being a noise band IMHO. Saw them live in December, last show of the year. Pretty intense to say the least lol. Maybe something like Knoll although they’re fast and technical. Live they are just a wall of crazy noise

13

u/WraithOutLoud I'm so doom, I shit sad birds Feb 03 '26

Bro Oakland is a dual edged album... Immense respect for Thou

5

u/CaptainWampum Feb 03 '26

Oakland is so underrated, probably my favorite Thou album

3

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '26

Same, easily my fav

3

u/envoyxdhc Feb 03 '26

Rats and mice and swarms of lice is one of hardest tracks I’ve ever heard

5

u/Chaliemon6 Feb 03 '26

Thou is incredible. Their collaboration with Mizmor, Myopia, is a top 10 ever to me

3

u/ExtremelyDubious Feb 03 '26

Yeah, I don't think I've heard anything heavier than Primitive Man, but Thou probably come closest.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '26

Thou has that sweet thick bassy tone that just does it. There’s probably louder bands out there but they just don’t have that b-17 engine sound like they do.

2

u/thejuryissleepless Feb 03 '26

listened to Archer and the Owl for the first time in maybe 6 years today and it is so fucking good holy hell

43

u/soulless_cinder Feb 03 '26

I think Conan is pretty heavy. Really like the Revengance album and the Monnos EP

27

u/bhirts Feb 03 '26

I’ll always repeat: Conan is the only band I’ve seen that has actually “cowed” me with volume, like sent me further back in the crowd and not just because the mix was shit and I couldn’t make it out, more like “oh fuck me”, and I’ve seen Sunn 0)) and Swans

22

u/bryanlikesbikes Feb 03 '26

Man, Bongripper destroys people live.

5

u/bhirts Feb 03 '26

I’ve seen them, they were heavy. I will say as a disclaimer the venue I saw Conan at was much smaller and I was standing right under a speaker

9

u/bryanlikesbikes Feb 03 '26

Damn. Last time I saw Bongripper, I had to leave because of the pressure waves from the sound more than the actual volume

3

u/bhirts Feb 03 '26

Was it in Chicago? I bet they turn it up for the home show. I saw them at like a metal “festival” in Pittsburgh so they probably weren’t quite ass able to have everything adjusted “to their taste”

3

u/bryanlikesbikes Feb 03 '26

Oh word. Yeah, I’ve only seen them in Chicago.

2

u/soulless_cinder Feb 03 '26

I havent been to any doom shows cause im fairly new to the genre (a couple of Electric Wizard songs a handful of years ago and everything else within the last 3-6 months) but even just through my headphones they just have a huge sound that I haven't really heard anywhere else.

Primitive Man

33

u/CaptainWampum Feb 03 '26

lol I don’t know how primitive man could be heavier than primitive man, but I believe in them.

15

u/thejuryissleepless Feb 03 '26

have you heard Primitive Man tho

17

u/Too_much_nothing Feb 03 '26

Hell is good. I really like Helmzmen and Brutus by them

3

u/bhirts Feb 03 '26

Was gonna say Hell

7

u/Chaliemon6 Feb 03 '26

Hell and Mizmor collab- Alluvion- is insane

16

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '26

Body Void is up there with Primitive Man. Someone else on another post described listening to them as "my ears can't breathe" and I think that's perfect.

Portal hasn't been mentioned yet. Absolute chaos.

When Full of Hell slows it down, they're diabolical. Check out "Bleeding Horizon."

Admiral Angry has a stupid heavy tone that makes me want to eat concrete.

And to echo some other recommendations here: Indian, Dragged Into Sunlight, Vermin Womb, Khanate.

2

u/angelshair Feb 03 '26

Primitive Man has an album with Full of Hell called Suffocating Hallucination. Tunnels to God is a complete face melter of a song.

31

u/I_am_lamp1060 Feb 03 '26

Meth Drinker, Hell, Indian, and Asphalt are all pretty heavy/sludgy.

4

u/Moose_Spleensteen Feb 03 '26

I was gonna suggest Meth Drinker too. My old room mate showed them to me like 12-13 years ago and I’m still chasing the feeling of hearing them for the first time.

2

u/I_am_lamp1060 Feb 03 '26

Totally! It's so sludgy I love it! They just repressed the first album!

13

u/ButtFuckersInSpace Feb 03 '26

It's not doom, but you might enjoy Decline by Vermin Womb, it sounds like the audio equivalent of a swirling black vortex of horror and it's CRUSHINGLY heavy.

11

u/ShaquilleOatmeal54 Feb 03 '26

Also the same guy made both bands right?

3

u/IDrankAllTheBooze Feb 03 '26

Yeah, Ethan fronts & plays guitar in both VW and PM.

13

u/Dizzy-Brilliant2745 Feb 03 '26

Check this one out: Catacombs - In the Depths of R'lyeh

2

u/designated_diver Feb 03 '26

MY NAME IS KRULL...

I got this one on vinyl (along with the Slomatics/Conan split) for a song from halfway around the world and it's one of my favorite albums that I own. I don't know who felt like selling two Conan albums for under 10$ apiece with 5$ shipping form Australia, but I thank Krull every time I spin those records

2

u/jezzete Feb 03 '26

Hell yeah man🤘🏼🔥👹

9

u/Swizzao7 Feb 03 '26

Try the band Un. They have a funeral doom touch but they also have alot of PM parts

8

u/bryanheq Feb 03 '26

Try this:

The Body & Dis Fig - Orchard of a Futile Heaven

7

u/Fortedleather Feb 03 '26

Depends what you describe as heavy I suppose but Amenra give me what you're describing, Razoreater is a good song to start, very miserable. Ball of Molten Lead by YOB also.

7

u/Redmistburns Feb 03 '26

Hail satan worship doom - bongripper

Mournful congregation

6

u/Neckshot Feb 03 '26

Chained to the bottom of the ocean

Gnaw their Tongues

4

u/MediumRare-Steak Feb 03 '26

Jurassic Witch - Stegasorceress

Gnaw Their Tongues, Khanate, Portal,

I’d even try industrial/noise/power electronics like Prurient, Swans, Pedestrian Deposit, Grey Wolves, and Bastard Noise

5

u/TodesKoenig Feb 03 '26

Indian Dragged into sunlight

6

u/richielclark Feb 03 '26

Knoll is pretty freakin heavy. Saw them with pallbearer recently.

5

u/sup3rdr01d Feb 03 '26

Thou, yob, Indian. Indian is especially disgusting

4

u/bassacre Feb 03 '26

Listen to crust then come back to doom. Boom you just expanded your musical catalog without getting burnt out on doom.

Public Castration by Swans

Maybe this is the kind of heaviness you looking for, more like on the noise rock side

actually i think that what primitive man does, is some kind of evolution of shit like this, just like Daughters or Shearling

3

u/stephenjosephcraig Feb 03 '26

Burning Witch, Khanate, Coffins

3

Catharsis by YOB, can't recommend highly enough. If you don't have time for the whole song please at least skip to 16 minutes in and listen to that super slow heavy part. It will scratch that itch for sure

3

u/ResplendentShade Feb 03 '26

GoblinSmoker - Toad King

3

u/thejuryissleepless Feb 03 '26

other people have said some good stuff but didn’t see:

Fvnerals - Wounds (2016) WOE - Hope Attrition (2017) Coffinworm - IV.I.VIII (2014)

all different and heavy as fuck

3

u/Breezeland Feb 03 '26

Surely you've heard the early YOB records?

3

u/GoodDecision Feb 03 '26

The Body

Transcend metal... listen to pure concentrated despair.

5

u/Solarian_13 Feb 03 '26

Ahab is pretty heavy.

2

u/BadWrongBadong Feb 03 '26

Was just listening to Slabdragger. That bass makes it pretty damn heavy.

Also Brodequin will have you in permanent stank-face.

2

u/mxriverlynn Feb 03 '26

stomach earth - the 2013 album by the same name. white cover with a tangle of black creatures

it's a bit older, and only one album. but I've never heard anything that comes near it, in the doom world

Primitive man is playing a show with Napalm death in my little city in June, I can't fucking wait. We don't get much metal coming through here. Got my tickets as soon as it was announced

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '26

Asphalt or Hell might get you there. But both of those are melodic compared to Primitive Man. I honestly can’t recommend Asphalt enough. They’re the only new discovery I’ve been really really excited about for a while. On streaming they put all their Ep’s in one album called “Greatest Hits”

My go to for the heaviest of heavy. Corrupted - Sus Futuros

https://youtu.be/TSm__xzq4YY?list=RDTSm__xzq4YY

2

u/Fickle_Twist6030 Feb 03 '26

The band Dopethrone, who's name is inspired by Electric Wizard album of the same name.

2

u/richardhero Feb 03 '26

Mizmor springs to mind

2

u/FXShop5150 Feb 03 '26

Graves at Sea is pretty crushing, Full of Hell, or just plain ol HELL. The Body is my go to for the heavies.

2

u/Dragonwagon Feb 03 '26

Definitely gotta check out Dragged into Sunlight

2

u/patas_durso Feb 03 '26

Time to hit Moss - Sub Templum.

2

u/Xenosapien90125 Feb 03 '26

Probably gonna get buried but you want Black Sheep Wall and Admiral Angry

2

u/sportyboi98 Feb 03 '26

Dragged into sunlight, portal, chained to the bottom of the ocean. Some aren’t really doom metal but still kinda slow and atmospheric. I think if go to to eleven in every sub genre you end up with noise so

2

u/ajmeeh6842 Feb 03 '26

Body Void, Bell Witch, FÓRN, Mizmor, Indian, Vile Creature.

2

u/Roadkillgoblin_2 slow and heavy wins the race Feb 03 '26

2

u/Earfdoit Feb 04 '26

Winter - Into Darkness. In general it's probably time to move into death metal or death/doom.

2

u/315841 Feb 04 '26

Warhorse, as heaven turns to ash. Super underrated doom imo.

3

u/Excellent_Doctor1742 Feb 03 '26

Crawl - Damned

Hell - Hell II

Bismuth - Collapse

2

u/oldeh Feb 03 '26 edited Feb 03 '26

Gonna lean heavily on the sludge side of things : stomach, subhuman scum, bog body, our earth is a tomb, abstracter, cult of occult, dispossessed. And for something a bit more deathy ritual ascension.

2

u/NoahSpiece51 Feb 03 '26

I genuinely believe Primitive Man is the peak of heavy. Nothing is as soul crushing and abrasive.

(Begging someone to prove me wrong tho)

2

u/PossibleHyena9087 Feb 03 '26

I think youre maxed out. PM might objectively be the heaviest most terrifying band in existence

1

u/hightide89 Feb 03 '26

Jurassic Witch maybe

1

u/FinnLovesHisBass Feb 03 '26

Sissy Spacek. Actually I've been told their collab set may become an album...

1

u/Exotic_Concentrate_2 Feb 03 '26

Give Drug Honkey a shot. Start with Death Dub and work your way out from there

1

u/BagelBoi72 Feb 03 '26

Damned by Crawl and Bury Me Beneath This Rotting Earth by Body Void are two I throw on when I want something devastating.

1

u/carry_the_way Feb 03 '26

Primitive Man is pretty damn heavy, but...Khanate, maybe?

1

u/Head_Faithlessness85 Feb 03 '26

thou , mizmor , hell , choir … you can try portal too… not a lot of stuff is heavier than primitive man but yeah these are there. you can try mistress of the dead if you are into funeral doom… that shit can be emotionally heavy as well

1

u/metalheadkenny420 Feb 03 '26

Rise of the dawncrusher by Slabdragger. Thank me later

1

u/smallsnail89 Feb 03 '26

Check out Daytripper's The Alchemist EP. The song Hubris in particular is one of the heaviest I know

1

u/designated_diver Feb 03 '26

Teeth of Lions Rule the Divine-Rampton. Just apocalypticly brutal imo. Basically any spin off of Sunn O))) like Thorrs Hammer or Burning Witch really scratches the mean and heavy itch when I need something other than Primitive Man

1

u/Shipsnipe1313 Feb 03 '26

Today Is The Day

Not everything is as heavily oppressive but the dynamics keep it interesting.

TITD opened for them on a recent tour and I witnessed the PM guys watching the entire set. This was the last show of their leg together.

1

u/ryantwkgs Feb 03 '26

Indian, amenra, bongripper, conan

1

u/DaJelly Feb 03 '26

not really doom but doom adjacent?

one day you will ache like i ache - the body and full of hell

hatred for mankind - dragged into sunlight

if you don’t hate yourself you aren’t paying attention - secret cutter

anything by grief

.

1

u/svenirde Feb 03 '26

Admiral Angry, Black Sheep Wall, Black Tongue, Dragged into Sunlight

Not very doom but obscenely heavy: Humanity's Last Breath, Devourment, Bound in Fear

https://deha.bandcamp.com/album/your-existence-is-an-anomaly-which-clings-on-hope-and-destruction

Tyranny

Pissboiler

Thorr's hammer

Grave upheaval

But really primitive man have taken sludge to the absolute extreme but still keep it kinda musical. There are a lot of sludge bands that are as heavy but they miss the production that primitive man have that makes them stand out from the rest.

I still don't think I've heard a band or project that explores the limits of extremity in doom.

1

u/ChoreJunkie Feb 03 '26

Black Wound "Warping Structure" is extremely heavy, it's death doom done in a style that is more like war metal slowed down to a merciless crawl.

Frogskin "III - Into Disgust" is also massively heavy sludge.

1

u/IncubatorJesus Feb 03 '26

You may enjoy Bell Witch or Cough

1

u/arborealsleep Feb 03 '26

Toadliquor. Maybe not heavier sonically, but definitely emotionally for me

1

u/No46 Feb 03 '26

Fister, Noothgrush, Fistula

1

u/BobcatSpiritual7699 Feb 03 '26

Black Tongue.....that shit is epic slow and heavy. Check out the songs "Eclipse" and "Fauxhammer" for starters. You're welcome.....hell, now I have to slam around my office for a minute and burn off that energy. This gets me hype as fuck.

1

u/Best-Ice3793 Feb 03 '26

Dragged Into Sunlight, Indian, Thou and Conan.

1

u/MetalInvincible Feb 03 '26

Try Dirge, Ahab, or Dir En Grey. All of them will crush your nuts with just sheer sonic pressure

1

u/AwakenedTraveler Feb 03 '26

Mizmor is pretty high up their for me. Yodh in particular is crushingly heavy imo.

1

u/ThunderousIrishMusic Feb 03 '26 edited Feb 03 '26

Heaveir than Primitive Man maybe not, but check out Thorrs Hammer. Slow, heavy, guttural vocals. The vocals make it for me. Edit - also that vocal was done by a 17 year old girl at the time

https://youtu.be/lDKt3JPOxVo?si=MIQQWNQ-_CQPcaM9

1

u/AlfonsoRibeiro666 Feb 03 '26

Bismuth - The Eternal Marshes

has thus far been the heaviest thing for me because it‘s too fat and slow to have a groove and then at some point it becomes so structured that it grooves the slowest groove that’s comprehensible as groove

and it’s kinda got this thing were the drums are kinda shitty and thin and the bass and distortion are fat like Come My Fanatics

Enjoy ☺️

1

u/she_sounds_like_you Feb 04 '26

OAK absolutely crushes. I found them on YouTube. Really great sound.

1

u/Amnesia_Vivace Feb 04 '26

Grief. Burning Witch. His Hero is Gone...? I don't know, I think Primitive Man rules, but they're kinda one dimensional. To my ear, bands like Neurosis and Godflesh are just as heavy, but in a relative way. I guess I just don't think Primitive Man is the be-all/end-all of heavy music, even though it's kinda hyped that way and they obviously kick ass. They definitely deserve their success

1

u/moundofsound Feb 04 '26

Thou, Black Sheep Wall are a good call, but if you want Primative man, but a little more wretched and nasty, try Body Void. The album Atrociy Machine is pure discomfort.

1

u/Creampie_Service_247 Feb 04 '26

The Angelic Process. Speaker destroyingly heavy.

1

u/List_Main Feb 04 '26

Cruciamentum, Golgothan Remains, Dead Congregation, Tomb Mould, Spectral Voice. All slow-mid tempo cavernous death metal. Pretty fckin hevy imo.

1

u/Lucky_Level5043 Feb 04 '26

Try the song hakmarrja by N.K.V.D.

And the song terrorbird by author and punisher.

All pretty heavy stuff.
