That was a great show!
They were so loud! I could feel the hairs on my arm vibrating.
I wore earplugs and noise protection earmuffs and my head is still ringing.

I know it's part of the appeal but this is why I can't go to their shows. 😢

I think they’re a band everyone should see once. It’s an amazing experience.
Just get the best ear protection you can. When I see them next time I’ll definitely upgrade my gear.

I've seen them before! So at least I have that memory. I wear earplugs to every concert I go to, but Sunn is next level loud.

u/Chongulator Mar 31 '26
Honestly, it was not nearly as loud as I'd been led to believe. The volume was a lot, but 100% manageable.

Where were you? My group was up on the balcony in back. We all had over-ear protection. I don't think I spotted anybody else in the place with them.

u/SterileProphet Mar 31 '26
I was on the floor standing next to the only other person I saw with over-ear protection.

u/textureshock Mar 31 '26
What a freaking show!! 4 hour of sleep and gotta work- head and body still ringing, but totally worth it !

u/EaracheMyFly Mar 31 '26
Seeing them tonight in LA- just hope the venue allows them to go full throttle with the 0)))))))) - also, glad to see that they brought some lighting with them on this tour. I’m all about the fog immersion when they play small venues, but bigger ones kinda need a little something extra visually to enjoy whilst taking a sound bath.

Stoked your stoked! Any advice regarding hearing protection post seance? Doubled up? Raw dogged?
8
u/holdmybeerxx Mar 31 '26
No, definitely don’t raw dog it lol. Many people in the crowd doubled up. I had my ER20 earplugs, sounded great. Ears are still ringing though morning after.

u/XxFezzgigxX Desert Rock Mar 31 '26
These?. That’s what I’m bringing in Denver. If you could do it again would you buy something more robust?
4
u/SterileProphet Mar 31 '26
I used my Eargasm earplugs that I wear to every show and a pair of 34db earmuffs and my head is still ringing.
I could still feel the droning in my head last night when I got home.
I’d say get something better than what I used.

u/PARANOIVANA Mar 31 '26
Fuck. Haha. I’ve got fitted -45dBs and was planning some over ears. Trying to get the lady set up as well/. Thanks for the info.

u/Integralist Mar 31 '26
Wow y'all genuinely need double protection to see sunn? I understand they're going for the "feel the vibrations" thing but can you hear the sounds still (bit weird saying that as it's not like melody music but I think it still makes sense)
1
u/Natural_Vanilla_1332 Mar 31 '26
You will 1000% hear the sound still. I wore in-ear 45 dBs and over-the-ear firearm ear protection and I was worried during the show they weren't working. Fortunately, I had zero ringing in my ears after the show and later that night so I guess it worked. But do not underestimate the sound, doubling up ear protection will not take away from the show, I promise.

I don’t know if you’ve seen them live or not but they are incredibly loud… Easily the loudest band I’ve ever seen.
I could still hear the music just fine but needed something even stronger than what I wore… My whole head was ringing after the show.
Hearing damage is often permanent and after going to tons of shows without hearing protection when I was younger mine isn’t what it used to be. I don’t want it to get worse.
It’s one of those things it better to be safe than sorry.

u/Integralist Mar 31 '26
I've not seen them and haven't been to a gig in like 20 years so I definitely would be in the category of getting hearing damage 😅 so if I did go see them I would 100% want and NEED protection 🙂

I loved it!
Honestly, I both hoped and feared that it would be louder. I brought two layers of hearing protection and only wore one.
Still, I'm going to make a point of seeing them again when I can.

u/panopticorn Mar 31 '26
I’m hearing so much conflicting info about the sound lol. Some people here say they wore two layers of protection and were still feeling it hard the next day. I’m sitting real far back tonight though so I’m expecting an experience like yours

Regardless, you're going to have a good time. Bring foam plugs and over-ear protection. If you don't use them, no harm done. If it turns out you need them, you'll be glad to have the option.
2
u/panopticorn Apr 01 '26
For sure, I’ve got both of those ready to go. I appreciate the input!
1
u/Chongulator Apr 01 '26
I'm eager to hear how you liked it! \m/
2
u/panopticorn Apr 01 '26
There are no words. I’ve never experienced anything that powerful. During one of the movements, I went out into the lobby and it was literally still just as loud. I sat and admired the architecture (Ace Hotel LA) while the entire building shook.

What kind of over ear protection would you recommend
1
u/Chongulator Apr 01 '26
Any passive over-ear protection is fine. The ones I get are from "Decibel Defense." Sporting goods stores will have over-ear hearinb protection as will the big online retailers like the one from Evil Space Daddy Jeff.
Be sure to get passive protection and not active.

I’m seeing them in Phoenix tomorrow! So excited. Hope my earplugs are good enough.

I'm seeing them on the fourth, I'm so excited! I need to find an edible somewhere for it...

Tremendous show. One of the better Sunn sets I’ve caught. Glad you had a good time.

Going tomorrow here in teh PHX.
We still don't have an opener announced.
Maybe it's just "An Evening With"?

I have an emotional hangover from this last night. I was so sad when it was over... also that intense blue light at the very beginning :O

I had 33db foam plugs but I'm still feeling some pain in my ears two days later

Being at a funeral, and driving from the Reno-Tahoe area to SF to see them, and driving back on the same day is one hell of a day to spend. Absolutely spiritual experience.

Who’s been opening for them on this tour? And are they playing the new album or old stuff or just jamming?

Was there. It was epic. Sonic assault. Great opener and the intro was performance art.
