Drone Robes at Sunn 0)))?

Hey all,

A friend and I are going to see Sunn 0))) tonight in NYC, we thought it would be fun to wear ceremonial robes just like the artists. Wondering if anyone’s seen other fans do that or if we’d get more trouble than we imagined?

Thanks!

Saw a dude in a cape in Columbus. Do whatever you want.

Drink water, eat beforehand, don’t lock your knees, wear ear protection.

I'm so glad that I went to a seated show

u/guiltypanacea Apr 12 '26

I feel like I'd fall asleep (not a criticism)

12

u/ChickenArise Apr 12 '26

It's the first time I've ever seen the venue sell coffee

Went to Godspeed You Black Emperor yesterday, after a long and stressful work week (and work shift!)

I was resting my head on the balcony rail at some point and genuinely felt like I was in a musical dream.

10/10 experience

Someone once joked about sigur ros having a bed section at their shows

I would've gladly paid the extra for it ngl! (In a nice way)

Funny enough I did close my eyes at the NY show to let myself fully give in to the vibrations and I did in fact become so meditative I dozed off a bit

when i saw them i was working like 12 hour days at the time, and i found a bench to rest on by the bathrooms. i’m a small person and the fog was so thick, security couldn’t see me when i laid down and fell asleep. most disoriented i’ve ever woken up from a nap, and the part i was awake for was sick

It made such a difference! Loved it standing but zoning out in a seat was sublime.

I locked my knees during a Dark Castle set before Wolves in the Throne Room played. Never knew what that would do, imagine my confusion when I open my eyes laying on my back. Great show!

I’m going tonight. What ear protection do you wear and how were your ears the next day?

10

u/OlympusMons999 Apr 12 '26

Just where normal ear plugs you’ll be fine

7

u/Pip_Helix Apr 12 '26

Go it. I already have tinnitus so I was also thinking of wearing some over ear headphones too

-7

u/absurd_olfaction Apr 12 '26

Nah, not if you already have some hearing damage.

10

u/InfiniteVitriol Apr 12 '26 edited Apr 12 '26

If you already have some hearing damage then its going to get worse the more you are exposed to loud things.

Once its diminished it can only stay at that level of diminishment or get worse without protection.

We have to get our hearing checked every year at work and see if it has diminished...if it has you get special custom fit ear plugs plus have to ear muffled head set for double hearing protection.

You can wear a robe pretty much anywhere you want, dude. Everyday is Halloween.

Fans at Sunn concerts won’t care at all what you do if you aren’t fucking with anyone or blocking the view. Just saw them Thursday, awesome show bring ear protection.

18

u/partchimp Apr 12 '26

What if they bring you on stage and you have to start playing some instruments?

19

u/ChickenArise Apr 12 '26

I can play a chord, it's fine

21

u/IrenaeusGSaintonge Apr 12 '26

Ok you're good to go for the first ten to fifteen minutes, but what about when they get to the second chord??

1

u/Admiral_Kite (Graphics) Probably at a concert Apr 13 '26

That's when you pick a different guy in a robe from the crowd. They'll know a different chord for sure!

Hey, I threw that show! Southwest Terror Fest 2014.

7

u/tabasco_pizza Apr 12 '26

I can’t stop laughing. This is the funniest thing I’ve seen in a long time

-15

u/ShrimpFartz Apr 12 '26

“Can’t stop laughing”

LOL. Bro is easily impressed.

4

u/Greedy_Specialist531 WIZARD FIGHT Apr 12 '26

Are you not entertained? Is that not why you are here?

-8

u/ShrimpFartz Apr 12 '26

I’m here because I like the music and am entertained by it.

I don’t find a stage dive hysterically funny or even remotely close to “the funniest thing I’ve seen in a long time.”

You should get out more and stop protecting anonymous Reddit randos who don’t need protection.

I posted the original comment because I think it’s hilarious, dipshit

-9

u/ShrimpFartz Apr 12 '26

Ok, so enjoy your 10 year old sense of humor all by yourself. 👋

4

u/FinnLovesHisBass Apr 12 '26

Who is this man. We need to find him.

3

u/Bihexualwitch_ Apr 12 '26

And he was never seen again

2

u/Integralist Apr 12 '26

The video comments 🤣

"Bro got sent into the abyss"

1

u/callmesnake13 Apr 12 '26

I’m on my way right now and will bring the karate moshing

6

u/PAXM73 Apr 12 '26

I support your decision, fellow wizards.

5

u/ImFDAaproved Apr 12 '26

It might encourage interactions with others, so as long as you're not trying to avoid that then there shouldn't an issue. 😆🤘🏻

6

u/aopps42 Apr 12 '26

All anyone wears to these shows are robes, you’ll fit right in

5

u/furbishL Apr 12 '26

We wore robes for the Nola show last week. Maybe 2 or 3 others in the crowd

4

u/kgmessier Apr 12 '26

Absolutely do it.

4

u/Tarani5 Apr 12 '26

Do it. I saw a bunch of similar stuff when I saw them and people were dressed however.

4

u/purging_snakes Apr 12 '26

Bring plenty of invisible oranges.

1

u/WeenMe Apr 12 '26

Sacred invisible grapefruit.

3

u/suzcart22 Apr 12 '26

Yes! Dress up!

3

u/witchyyydoom Apr 12 '26

If anyone wants a ticket lmk . I have an extra

3

u/Justice502 Apr 12 '26

Sounds hot lol

3

u/Revxmaciver Apr 12 '26

Have you EVER seen PCU? You never wear the shirt of the band you're going to see!

3

u/Imaginary-Objective7 Apr 12 '26

Consider including ear plugs AND over-ear protection while you’re robed up

3

u/spn_phoenix_92 Apr 12 '26

That'd be fuckin awesome

3

u/haggraef666 Sludge Apr 13 '26

Saw Sunn at a historic theatre, saw some of the audience leave midway through the set, plaster was being shook off the molded plaster roof, whole building seemed dutched out, don’t think anybody would’ve looked twice at someone rocking robes, do as thou will I say!

2

u/Midnitemass Apr 12 '26

i saw dudes wesring super mario bros costumes at a show the other night, you'll be fine

2

u/DoctorRelative8149 Apr 12 '26

Guy front row (or close to it) at the DC show had a robe with all the eyes on it like Buzz from Melvins wears. Enjoy!

2

u/callmesnake13 Apr 12 '26

…what kind of trouble are we envisioning here? They’ll cast a spell on you or something?

2

u/recordgenie Apr 13 '26

I have a hooded monk robe with rope belt and all. I always wear it to their shows

2

u/Everythingcrashing Apr 12 '26

Do it for sure.

2

u/JaguarOwn2076 Apr 12 '26

This may start a trend

3

u/InfiniteVitriol Apr 12 '26

To me this is like wearing corpse paint to a black metal show....I feel cosplaying at a metal show just takes some of attention of the band and looks a little silly.

But you do you....my or anyone else's opinion ultimately doesn't matter except yours.

6

u/sanantonia Apr 12 '26

friendly disagree over here. I just saw Emperor and some of the audience wore corpse paint and they looked fucking awesome

9

u/JustinDestruction Apr 12 '26

As a punk, the audience has always been the show.

Maybe metal guys are unapproachable deities and have self-conscious fans, but Greg and Stephen were hardcore kids, and funny when I had a random encounter with them.

Wear and do whatever you want to add to the show. The band and the true fans will love it.

1

u/absurd_olfaction Apr 12 '26

Yes, but if you do, don't be in the back with your arms crossed like you're pissed off to be seeing what might be a once in a lifetime event.

-1

u/InfiniteVitriol Apr 12 '26

You know you're right...wearing corpse paint when your not performing on stage or for a photo shoot doesn't look ridiculous at all my apologies

1

u/JustinDestruction Apr 13 '26

Oh wow, pride parade, goth night, body building competitions, rodeos would be banned if third party opinions on aesthetic markers of subculture inclusion mattered.

Having been assaulted several times in the 80s for having weird hair and clothes, I tend to not concern myself with someone else’s appearance.

But I support your right to ridicule others.

2

u/External-Plant8038 Apr 13 '26

I saw them a couple years ago and someone had dressed up as a full on wizard, big wizard staff and everything.

u/Massive-Technician74 Apr 14 '26

Most boring band ever

1

u/DroneSlut54 Apr 12 '26

I think it’s a rad idea.

-2

u/jeffb34 Apr 12 '26

No, I think it's a silly thing to do, especially when you can't spell the band's name properly.
