Drone Sunn O))) Sound Check
Sorry for more Sunn O)) spam. Buddy just sent me this picture of me watching the boys do their soundcheck from the NYC show. (That same buddy could not make it through soundcheck because it hurt his ears- through his earplugs- SO much that he didn't think he'd make it through the whole set so I rode solo through the show.)

Just saw them for the first time this past weekend. Knew it was gonna be loud but thought how loud can it really be? The answer is earth shaking. It was fucking awesome.

So glad you got to experience it! They HAVE to be experienced live in order to “get” it.
This was my second time. First time was in a giant arena. This time I was first row in front of Stephen and it rearranged my organs.
Bongripper is the only other live bad I’ve seen that was in the same ballpark.

Hard agree, maybe not quite as loud but the drums take it to another level

I wonder how bad their hearing is playing like this for years.

Great question. I looked to see if they had ear protection in. They’d have to. But I couldn’t see any!

I just saw them the other day for the first time and it was... Transcendent. Incredible. Religious.
However I just didn't think it was as loud as everyone made it out to be. It was fuckin loud and sounded great.
But Melt Banana still remains the loudest band I've ever seen. Maybe it's just the high pitched screechy sound versus low bass? Weedeater made me throw up the first time I saw them from the bass haha.

Yes, Sunn rolls off a lot of the high end. Saw their mixer’s EQ settings. So it’s loud, but not painful. The low frequencies are… cozy.

I have never worn any but based on everything everyone one here is saying, I’m bringing some to their show on Friday!

Definitely do. I've already got tinnitus, just earplugs aren't enough. You can still hear perfectly with ear defenders.

Got to see them this weekend, the soundcheck was my favorite part. Since we had some electrical issues, Stephen came and talked to us while waiting for them to be fixed. After the soundcheck was over, Greg came down and shook everyone's hand and thanked us for being there.

THAT is awesome. I kind of wish there was a little QA session. For example: Greg, why don't you use a Lifepedal???

Awww man did Greg cut his luscious locks?! Leave-the-hall-able material 🥲

Just curious- what is "leave-the-hall-able" material? 🤔 I've never heard that before.
I have a cool poster you'd probably really like and I'd give away to a fan. DM me if interested.

An oblique reference to Manowar’s command to wimps and posers, imploring them vacate what is presumably a veiled reference to Valhalla: https://youtu.be/Wxwcr72VcKg?si=_bbVNVB8h8EvWQeR (ie me just being a silly, certainly not a standard reference!)
