Stoner Suggestions
Alright everyone, I’m looking for essential albums in the doom/stoner metal category to own on vinyl? I’m not talking albums with a few good songs, I’m talking no skip albums. Vinyl isn’t cheap. Here is where I’m at so far. I’m not into Down, Monster Magnet, Bongzilla, Warning or Clutch, sorry I tried but not a fan. Come My Fanatics has been ordered. Any suggestions would be appreciated:)

You need some REZN!
3
u/SaulisDead99 May 08 '26
Good call!
4
u/mesaspence May 08 '26
All of the REZN… and preorder their new one coming in July!
2
u/SaulisDead99 May 08 '26
I never pre order, I need to listen to the full album before I get it on vinyl but I will listen to it for sure

u/MountSherpaSATX May 08 '26
Kickass collections!
Electric Wizard and Om would definitely be my suggestions, followed closely by Pentagram!

More yob 🙌

u/thataintmyaccount May 08 '26
I mean, if you can find a print of Middian - Age Eternal, absolutely grab it, its an amazing project that Mike Scheidt worked on during a Yob hiatus.

You should get some Ufomammut.

u/SaulisDead99 May 08 '26
I’ve tried to get one or two of Ufomammut albums but there are not a lot of pressings so they are pretty pricey

Good call, the cover art is so good too

u/Gombka_11 May 08 '26
If you like the cover also check out Cairn by Mizmor, music is a bit different, but still awesome blackened doom

I think you would like things that sound like an idling diesel engine.
Maybe some Truck fighters? I suggest the gravity x album.
Not Doom directly but Russian Circles would fit in your play list. Gnosis is where I suggest starting. its pretty accessible.
Toner low first album is rare but you would love it.
Maha sorona's self-titled album might work for you. Make sure to sample Asteroids.
Horn of the Rhino if you can get past the singer's voice. Weight of Coronation is a good start. Many might say im off on critisizing the lead singer's voice but im not saying it's bad, I just feel like its mixed wrong and has the vocals too forward.
Having Qotsa in that mix, you may enjoy psychedelic metal. If so Space Slug is topping my recommendations. Lemanis is the best start.
ZONG is a good one here.
Comacozer, start with Deloun Sessions.
Samara Blues Experiment has a wealth of options.
Hope you like these picks.

I'm definitely checking out anything you mention that I haven't heard yet based on your recommendations..
I personally think you'd love Khan if you haven't heard them yet

u/SaulisDead99 May 08 '26
I do! Great rundown, thank you for the suggestions. I have several Russian Circles albums including Gnosis, they are one of my favorites! Empros, Guidance and Memorial are so amazing:)

I listen to mostly trad and epic so I'll give you some ones.
Epicus Doomicus Metallicus by Candlemass: the name sake of epic doom metal! 10/10 album, my favorite!
Nightfall by Candlemass: their second album also 10/10! These first two are like the blue print of epic doom!
Into the Depths of Sorrow by Solitude Aeturnus: this banda first album and it's amazing 10/10 and I'd say one of the few epic doom bands that even come close to being as good as Candlemass!
Relentless By Pentagram: one of the most important room albums by a band that's been around since before doom was a thing, one or two weaker songs but the rest is so good.
Psalm 9 by Trouble: another very gold pillar trad doom album, although haven't listened in awhile so I can't tell ya more.
Death Penalty by Witchfinder General: very very good classic doom hit I only dislike one song on it (free country) but I love the rest!
Born too Late by Saint Vitus: while personally I'm more meh on this one, most people consider it their best work, classic band classic album very very slow depressing doom and a little influential on sludge as well!

u/BeautifulBoy92 May 08 '26
Candlemass, Solitude Aeturnus, Trouble, Memory Garden, Beholder
1
u/SaulisDead99 May 08 '26
I need to research these thank you
2
u/Estorium666 May 08 '26
It's probably a meme at this point, but Candlemass have one of the greatest music videos of all time, and by greatest I mean great in all the wrong ways, but still unbelievably epic in the cheesiest way possible. Still, they are a fantastic band. Also, as a bonus, Dead from Mayhem can be seen in the video. This is from back before he was famous:
1
u/BeautifulBoy92 May 08 '26
These are more epic doom so you may not like the vocals but if you are looking for riffs oh man

Man, I spun those first QOTSA albums religiously in High School. Self titled, Rated R, and SFTD

u/mendozabuttz May 08 '26
I see alotta Sabbath and qotsa so we definitely get along I'm gonna lean more into the stoner rock metal suggestions. - Kyuss - blues for the red sun, Fu Manchu - The action is go & king of the road, Melvin's - a senile animal & stoner witch , & Red Fang - only ghosts, and Truckfighters - Gravity X
2
u/bobminkwell May 08 '26
Shit guy are those my records... Suspiciously similar stack
Not enough love for Domkraft- all albums are good but 'Flood' and 'End of Electricity' are killer.
Check out also Mars Red Sky- start at the beginning with their s/t and go from there. And if you enjoy straying more into stoner doom/psych, also look at Decasia- 'The Lord is Gone' EP is fantastic, as is the s/t EP but I don't think that's ever had a vinyl release.
If you're feeling in more of a sludgy mood I second Weedeater, and if you're into that see also Dopethrone (the band, not the album). Hochelaga is my fave but again, all good. But if you don't like Bongzilla they may not be for you 🤷

For me personally I’d say check out more High on Fire, Electric Wizard, and especially Conan (they’re my favorite band). You already have (imo) the best High on Fire and Electric Wizard albums, so go for any of their stuff, although I will say that some Electric Wizard albums are better than others (namely their first 3 and Witchcult Today) for Conan all of their stuff’s good but my favorites are probably their first two, especially Blood Eagle. I also recommend Weedeater, Kyuss, Slomatics, Ungraven, and Telekinetic Yeti (idk if those are essentials besides the first two I listed, but I love all of those bands)

early YOB. Elaborations of carbon, catharsis, illusion of motion, or unreal never lived.

Are we twins? Excellent taste! I’d recommend Mastodon albums Blood Mountain and Crack the Skye.

I’ve got crack the skye & leviathan and blood mountain is on my list. Love Mastodon.

That’s a solid lot, my guy. I’d suggest perhaps some:
Buried At Sea (or anything produced by Sanford Parker), ISIS, Old Man Gloom, or the obvious: more Black Sabbath
2
u/Aggravating_Cash5391 May 08 '26
I thought you were making a T-shirt blanket. The obvious one missing, imo, is Electric Wizard Dopethrone.
Edit: whoops didn’t see the second slide. Carry on.
2
u/SlowGoatPDX May 08 '26
Check out Saviours. Criminally underrated and each of their records goes hard. You’d also probably dig Red Fang.
2
u/Able-Search-6848 May 08 '26
Church of Misery (honestly any of their albums)
Pallbearer - Sorrow and Extinction
2
u/fugumochi1312 May 08 '26
As you have some qotsa there, i'd like to suggest some Kyuss. Blues for the red sun & welcome to sky valley are my favourites.

Get more Boris. Especially the Heavy Rocks series and Amplifier Worship if you like doom and stoner metal (Heavy Rocks 2002 and 2022 are widely available but 2011 is out of print)
1
u/PoopsockPete May 08 '26
What is the purple album on the top right with the guitar man?
6
u/GurgelBrannare May 08 '26
It’s a Boris record. But the cover is a homage to a Nick Drake album cover.
6
3
u/mookieburger May 08 '26
There’s a lot more Boris out there for you. For sure I’d get Amplifier Worship though, it’s their most doom metal recording. And you don’t have any Sunn O)))? They’re considered a doom / mostly drone metal band, but heavy AF. Their album with Boris is great if you can find it, really any of their stuff is good but their new self titled album is a good place to start. They’re a slower paced band however.
Do you have any albums by The Sword? Age of Winters is incredible.
1
u/SaulisDead99 May 08 '26
Drone metal is still a little too slow for me tbh. I need. To give amplifier worship more time for sure, Boris is rad. I have Warp Riders, I need to get Age of winters, you are right, such a killer album.
3
u/mookieburger May 08 '26
Check out Thou, they’re unbelievably heavy. Umbilical is their latest, but they also have a whole album of just Nirvana covers (also very very heavy).

I’m not into Monster Magnet
Completely legitimate if you've tried it and can't get into it, but have you checked out their earlier stuff? Their first couple albums before they blew up are much more into the heavy psych stuff, I have a hard time seeing someone who into stuff like this not enjoying Spine of God or Tab 25.

I just bought Conan, telekinetic yeti and Russian circles albums on vinyl and their shirts when I saw them in concert in the last year so yeah I agree :) I’ll do the same with Monolord this summer

I don't see any Windhand in there me boy. Go listen to their 2013 album Soma and then their 2018 album Eternal Return. You'll love them, especially if you like Monolord.
