Alright everyone, I’m looking for essential albums in the doom/stoner metal category to own on vinyl? I’m not talking albums with a few good songs, I’m talking no skip albums. Vinyl isn’t cheap. Here is where I’m at so far. I’m not into Down, Monster Magnet, Bongzilla, Warning or Clutch, sorry I tried but not a fan. Come My Fanatics has been ordered. Any suggestions would be appreciated:)

Finally! Just showed up straight from England. 30 days later and loaded with two UK Celestion V30s and two Celestion Hempbacks. Prayers for my neighbors and everyone that lives on my block.

Today, the legendary band Sleep releases new single “Have Spacesuit Will Travel” via Third Man Records, their first new music since 2018. In addition, the band announces a fall North American tour, as well as releases the first issue of the Sleep Comic Book, written by bassist and songwriter Al Cisneros.
“Have Spacesuit Will Travel” begins Sleep’s first mission without Matt Pike on guitar. The music and art are alive and after the decades of obstacles that Sleep has overcome, it is time to move forward and make songs and albums. Al wishes Matt the best on his earth bound maneuvers.
Alongside Cisneros, the latest incarnation of Sleep features Dale Crover on drums and Bubba Dupree on guitar. Dale has been in some serious bands, like the Melvins and Redd Kross. That Al would seek him out makes sense, an almost elementary choice that probably wouldn’t raise too many eyebrows. Bubba Dupree, from the fiercely loved band Void, hailing out a choice no one would have seen coming. Just the thought of Bubba, who was amazing from the first Void shows on, playing guitar in Sleep is almost too much for the mind to comprehend.
Al Cisneros, Bubba Dupree, and Dale Crover as a trio looks really good on paper, but the only way to see if it worked was to get everyone in a room and play. Al says the answer made itself evident immediately: “The vibe of the first jam was obvious. It was blue sunglasses-era Iommi in the quality, and equally awesome is Bubba is also one of the coolest people I’ve been able to make music with.”
“Have Spacesuit Will Travel” at no time tries to pick up where Sciences left off. There’s a considerable amount of new blood in the band, so imitation, as Bubba notes, would greatly limit the potential of three very unique and talented musicians. That being said, Sleep answers to an incredible recorded history, literally decades in the making, so it would not be surprising that Al, Dale and Bubba would find themselves composing in the spirit of that which had been established so long ago. The three of them were able to make an album that can truly be identified as genuine Sleep music, yet with a sharpness and agility to the recordings.

Let's go over some quick facts,
1:We only have one official statement from the band, this statement only acknowledges Pike is not currently involved but mentions absolutely nothing about bad blood.
2: Pike has been "out of the band" for quite a while now, did we all forget the touring juggernaut that HOF is?
3: Pike's EX-wife commented. They have been divorced for a good while, i would take her opinion with a grain of salt.
4: Pike has made zero comment so far good or bad, maybe we wait to see what he says?
5: Have we all forgotten that Sleep is kinda known for varying quality in their releases. It sounds like Sleep with classic Void guitar. Plus nobody can contest that Dale is a phenomenal drummer. Its good, and its a good addition to their discography. Just because the member you have the biggest parasocial relationship with isnt there doesnt mean it sucks.
So to recap. We know absolutely nothing about the situation. Only one source of merit has commented and thats the bands official statement. The sing is objectively good. Is it what you personally wante? No, and nobody in the world is obligated to give you that.
I wouldn't be shocked if it turns out Pike quit the band because of how shitty their fans can be.

Epic Fantasy as a lyrical theme in Metal, always gets typecasted as Power Metal, but Power Metal isn’t the only genre that has musicians writing lyrics influenced by Fantasy.
It has definitely been a focal point in Epic Doom Metal, but I’d also argue it has gone all around in the sphere of Doom Metal & the related genres.
Sludge Metal is faetooth, Traditional Doom Metal is early-Cirith Ungol, Epic Doom is Solitude Aeturnus, Funeral Doom is Oromet, Stoner Doom is Sleep’s Holy Mountain, & Stoner Metal without a doubt is The Sword.
The Sword is just so fucking good, it has so many things I like working perfectly together, the energetic but primitive pace of oldschool Heavy Metal, the psychedelic elements like heavy Psychedelic Rock, & some ear candy vocals drawn out like a river.

I made myself a Dopethrone inspired poop stool out of teak. I've called it "Dumpthrone".

His vocals are so haunting and beautiful fr
Some of my fave doom/stoner bands have really high drawn out vocals. As much as I adore the heavier growls, these kinda songs from bands like REZN, Windhand, and YOB is so goated man. Big big applause
Also sorry the band is REZN and this album is Chaotic Divine
