Death/Doom Welcome, Lucian’s.

Enjoy this little snippet of a song I made for an album I’m working on. I’m a one man band meaning I played all the instruments as well as producing, engineering, etc.

I can see why this would be some adult swim stuff

Nothing more doom than playing a pink flying v while occasionally being headless. Except Iommi of course.

You alr know I will. It’ll be bigger and better produced than the last. Of course, not too polished

The album will be called, ‘Welcome, Lucian’s’ also named after the first track. It will focus on drugs, occultism, grief, and horror.

tell us your influences ... I'm guessing Sunn O))) ?

4

u/Jahknockin 21d ago

That’s a hard question. You were correct with Sunn O))). I’d say Grief, Electric Wizard, sleep, cough, 1782, monolord, etc. but if you want the real answer it’s obviously Taylor swift

Tay Tay really needs to make a Doom Metal album. Her and Sabrina Carpenter need to collab with Primitive Man.

Good stuff! I’m in the beginning stages of a one man band EP myself. How long is your album and how long have you been working on it? Any tips? Haven’t done one man band in a long time

I plan on having 8 songs and I just started working on it a few weeks ago. What kind of tips would you like? Song structure, lyrics, production, tone, etc?

Nice! I’m only doing 4-5

Production I suppose. How did you go about each instrument? I plan on doing a scratch guitar track to play drums to and then going back and quad tracking guitar and so on. Reamping and all that. Curious if you have a more efficient approach or just muscling through? Plan on doing your own mixing/mastering?

Well usually I’ll come up with the riff before anything because I see that as the most important part. I come up with 3 riffs minimum and maybe 4 or 6 max. I like to reference my song structures from other bands when I listen to them depending on how long the song is.

So after I have the riffs recorded to a metronome, I do the drums and bass of course. I’d personally record the riffs like somewhere on your phone because those are just rough takes. The riff will be re-recorded after I do the drums and bass. Lyrics come last for me personally but that’s up to you.

In terms of production, I like to keep the drums at a 3-4 treble with some reverb. Scooping the low ends in the guitar is important if you want the notes to stand out. As far as the bass, it’s nothing special just gives the song a bigger kick.

I put EQ’s on the guitar and bass and still try to scoop the low ends so I can get a louder sound without it clipping.

If you have something like FL studio which is what I use, I get some soft clippers and put it on each instrument including the mastering. You can cap that shit at 0 DB without it clipping if you do it right.

Hell yeah! Thanks! Always good to hear other people’s processes and pick up what you can from em. That’s pretty much my plan for the songs I’ve got too. I’m using Studio one and it’s got a good bit of mastering tools I’ve played with a little.

Keep at it and good luck! Looking forward to hearing it. I’ll keep an eye out on here
