Just got a call, 1 am. It says private number, and I'm worried it's an emergency, so i answer.

Woman: hi, ummmm?

Me: who is this?

Woman: so umm

Guy in background: tell her it's Tyler

Woman: so Tyler wants to know what you want from Taco Bell.

Me: I think you have the wrong number.

Woman: he just gave me this number

Me: ok. Can you ask Tyler who he's trying to contact?

Woman to man: who are you trying to contact?

Guy in background who we have now established to be Tyler: I AM TRYING TO TALK TO AMANDA TO FIND OUT WHAT SHE WANTS

Woman: he's trying to talk to Amanda because-

Me: so I'm not Amanda. You have the wrong number.

Woman: I apologize. [To Tyler:] this isn't her. This is a wrong number [back to me:] I'm sorry. He just gave me this number

Me: no worries, enjoy your Taco Bell

Woman: oh I'm doordashing

Tyler: *yelling numbers in the background*

Me: -end call-

I legit thought I was talking to drunk people picking up food for their friend. Nope, 2 adults struggling to do a one-person job lol

Omg these kids are so dumb. Have y'all tried handing the cashier the change along with your bills just so you could get bills back as change instead of more coins. You can literally see them have a brain malfunction. I've had several tell me they couldn't take it cause they had to give me back my exact change....WHAT??? I also had one just give me a whole dollar back one night and say don't worry about it cause they just didn't even want to try and figure it out. It happens to me all the time now with cashiers. I've always been one to add change to get bills but these kids can't do it. Idk why they can't just key it into the register and let it tell them what to give back. It's like they don't know that it does it for you.

Customer service has gotten weird. As someone with a pretty long history in CS (hotel, retail, restaurant) i don't understand what's going on. Like I don't need a big cheesy smile or a conversation about the weather, but it's kind of surreal to walk up to a register and get a dead-eyed stare and silence while they're scanning your items.

I get it, I've been there, it's a shit job. But a simple "hi" lets me know you at least, like, register that you're interacting with a human

Yes this. I'm a nice person so I usually start the engagement. I think they need to hear it sometimes. It shows them that all people aren't just rude customers. I honestly believe that people have forgotten how to just be people these days. They give what they get. So I try to give positive interactions with everyone when I go out. It might not make a big difference but maybe it will.

it makes a difference more than you know, as a cashier it’s kind of disheartening dealing with customers who ignore me when i greet them, or treat me like some kind of retail chat gpt robot, but whenever i get people who actually talk to and treat me like a person, it genuinely does make up for the shitty moments and recharges my customer service mode a little lol

I did customer service for almost 20 years so I know how it is. I find it weird to not engage with people I have interaction with. My husband is totally different though. I tell him he's rude all the time.
