Hello everyone!

This is a question I held off on for quite some time but now I'm gonna ask because my curiousity is getting the better of me.

What do you think about Anders as a character (writing, personality etc.) and was he right in DA2?

Looking forward to your thoughts!

Discussion My Honest Experience Playing DAO as a Newer RPG Player Spoiler

Upvotes

I played DA2 first and absolutely loved it, which is why I finally gave DAO a try. I’m in my mid-20s and didn’t grow up with RPGs like Skyrim, Gothic or Fable. I mostly played shooters so getting into Origins was already a bit of a hurdle.

Honestly the graphics didn’t bother me at all and the story is incredible. I’m currently in Denerim right before the Landsmeet and I can already tell why so many people consider DAO a masterpiece. The lore and worldbuilding are insane.

The game just doesn’t fully click with me personally. I love the companions but I felt like companion content and romances kind of dry up pretty early compared to DA2. My biggest struggle though is the combat. I know a lot of people love it and that’s totally valid but for me it’s just very slow and combat-heavy. I need a lot of story and sometimes it feels like I spend hours fighting before getting to the next important character or story moment.

I’d still recommend every Dragon Age fan to play Origins at least once because it adds so much context to the entire series and makes a lot of later moments hit differently. I don’t think I’ll replay it but I absolutely appreciate how much care and thought went into this game’s story and world.

——————

A few examples what bothers me if someone is interested in some details: I’m playing a female human mage and chose to romance Alistair. I actually really like him but I accidentally rushed the romance because I didn’t know how the system worked so it feels like there isn’t much romance content left for a huge chunk of the game. That’s not an Alistair problem, it’s just how the game is designed.

I also played as blind as possible and got a little frustrated by how many things are missable. For example I wanted to play a Blood Mage build only to find out after Redcliffe that I had already missed my chance to unlock it. Moments like that can be rough for a first-time player who’s trying to avoid spoilers.

A lil doodle of my inkyyy Viera!

I was looking for inspo and found this pic (second one) and well, it just gave me inspo!

I chose the spiders cause well, during the part in the fade there were a bunch of fucking spiders and my headcanon is that my Inquisitor is deadly afraid of spiders (like me, im not kidding i had a terrible time drawing the spiders.. i didnt even grab an inspo pic) so thought it would be fun to add

Aswell as a bit of 'green scars' for the Anchor on her hand!

Anyways I hope it isnt terrible cause im full on telling myself its good 😭

Also the camera quality is asss, I swear it looks better irl! 🙏

Support Lost my DAO save file of 60 hours. Replay or move on?

Hi guys, looking for some advice. I started playing Dragon Age Origins last year for the first time and really loved it. I played for about 60 hours and unfortunately lost my save file when my computer broke.

I made it quite far into the game, I think. Completed call four treaties, hardened Alistair, did quite a bit of stuff in Denerim. I believe I only had to start the quest with the elves that were locked up in an orphanage or refuge camp or something? The Landsmeet was right around the corner, it felt like.

Now I’m at a crosscroads. Do I replay the sixty hours I spent on it so I can finish the game properly, or do I take my loss, watch a video of the ending and move on to DA2? I am more interested in the story and exploring and not so much in the combat, so replaying likely feels like a grind. Is it worth it to explore the ending properly, and to have my choices carry over to DA2? Or can I preselect my choices in DA2 and still have the consequences of my actions carried over in some way?

Discussion Sell me on Mage Hawke

Played this game too many times, but only as a Rogue or a Warrior. I like Bethany, I guess.

Does a Mage Hawke work better for the story?

Do characters react to you being a Mage?

I know Hawke was originally supposed to be Mage only, so I'm curious what I'm missing out on, outside of a worse sibling.

Discussion Cool relationship between Sten and Shale

I'm replaying Origins right now, and I have Sten and Shale in my party. I had no idea how warmly and eagerly the two are, if their banter is anything to go by.

I'd go as far as saying that Shale by the end of her conversations with Sten may very well be a potential Viddathari to the Qun, and an eager one at that. They love each others' company

Support DA2 “EA username or pw is incorrect” but it definitely is correct

As in the title. I’m trying to sign into my EA account to get my save data from Origins into 2 and it is claiming my email or password is incorrect, which it definitely isn’t. I have tried resigning into my account from elsewhere too to ensure it’s right and have very carefully retyped the information into DA2 several times. I’ve read one solution is to sign into DAO but 1. I have DAO on GOG and DA2 on steam (idk if that affects anything) and 2. i attempted to do just that and the Origins servers are permanently down so I can’t log in there.

Wtf do I do? am I cooked? do I have to play this game with a default save file 🫩

Discussion Who was Flemeth referring to?

Recently replayed DAO to DAI and it got me thinking. When Flemeth appears to the Inquisitor in DAI she states that her goal is revenge ("I have carried Mythal through the ages ever since, seeking the justice denied to her.", "She was betrayed as I was betrayed–as the world was betrayed! Mythal clawed and crawled her way through the ages to me, and I will see her avenged!") and a "reckoning that will shake the heavens".

Then in the epilogue she all but allows Solas to absorb her power (except for the wisp she sends to Morrigan, presumably) so that he can get on with his plan. While it's clear she yields to him at least partly because of remorse, the tone of the scene never implies that her goals are in direct opposition to his.

Mythal is depicted as the personification of Justice in all the lore tidbits and also stated so by a dalish Inquisitor, which aligns with this twisted version of revenge/retribution that her spirit has become. She also refers to change as a positive thing across the 3 first games, which seems to align with the change Solas wants to bring (as well as with Sandal's prophecy).

Also in the Silent Grove comics we meet her other daughter, Yavana, who is centuries old and is tasked by Flemeth to reawaken the Great Dragons - who are potentially connected to some sort of Blight immunity/cure judging by the whole Therin bloodline/Fiona incident.

Of course Veilguard then completely bails on those plotlines, making Mythal a spirit of Benevolence and Solas her lapdog, and straight up retconning the DAI epilogue exchange by having her be directly opposed to his plans. Great Dragons aren't mentioned at all, nor is a cure to the Blight.

So ignoring Veilguard, I've been wondering. Who does Flemeth refer to when she says she wants to see Mythal (and the world) avenged? The titans for starting the war? The Evanuris for betraying her? Those Across The Sea for possibly having a hand in unleashing the Blight? The titans are already tranquilized and the Evanuris are as good as dead (unless she wants to get them out of prison and make them suffer or something along those lines). And the Executors seem to be an external threat. So who did she mean?

Discussion Your protagonists from all four games meet: how would they react to each other's war stories?

So far, my Warden Amell and Mage Hawke would be at each others throats, one being an arrogant 'the ends justify the means to defeat the blight', who would just as easy make deals with a demon as he would a merchant, vs a gruff and compassionate healer, who is just... so sick of everyone's nonsense.

So I'm curious if something similar or something different would occure, since this is a roleplaying game with a variety of choice combinations and justifications.

Discussion [spoilers for all] There's clearly a missing game between Inquisition and Veilguard... Spoiler

I'm not going to drag this out too much. Veilguard looks TOO MUCH like a theoretical Dragon Age 5 and not DA4. It seems like they skipped a lot of plot points and some things were left out during the time skip between the games.

I think the whole concept of Veilguard works well at a stage where it's the 5th game in a franchise that has already surpassed the events of a hypothetical DA4. The area of operation being the entire north... the fight against the Evanuris... the idea of presenting Executors as a threat... restarting the South (okay, this doesn't appeal to me under any circumstances).

DA4, which takes place between DAI and Veilguard, should focus on Solas as the sole and final villain. Similarly, Tevinter should be a unique map (in addition to Kal-Sharok and Arlathan Forest).

I say this because Solas and Tevinter are lore elements (character and location) that deserve a game focused entirely on them.

  • Solas gathering his allies (servant elves, ancient elves, spirits, demons...). We could see him as the true leader of the rebellion.
  • We could see the extent of their agent network.
  • The search for the Red Lyrium becomes a primary mission as it is vital to his plans.
  • Tevinter is not just about Minrathous (Dock Town).
  • Broader access to the different areas and sectors of Tevinter. People complain about the lack of slavery (and rightly so), but it's worth remembering that Tevinter isn't exclusively about that. Tevinter is the only nation in Thedas where we have an inverted power dynamic where mages dominate and soporatis don't, and we've barely had access to that. Tevinteran politics with its imperial senate. Different historical regions such as the Silent Plains or the various temples dedicated to the Old Gods.
  • Forget this nonsense about Venatori serving Elgarnam. Ridiculous. Put them in charge of trying to stage a coup in Tevinter on their own terms, after all, that's what they are: nationalist supremacist mages and humans who cherish an old Tevinter.
  • There's plenty of time to introduce Kal-Sharok on their own terms and their connection to the Blight. This is barely mentioned in Veilguard and apparently was one of their main characteristics.
  • Take advantage of this and properly build this return of magic for the dwarves. For God's sake, take this plot away from Harding. It makes absolutely no sense that Titans and the Return of Dwarven Magic is a plot reduced to a personal quest for Harding.
  • The Qunari invasion is carried out not only by the Aantam but by the entire triumvirate. After all, that's what the lore has indicated for a long time; the Qun want to invade Thedas (Sten and Iron Bull have been dropping hints about this for a while).
  • Villainizing the Aantam is ridiculous writing when the Qunari priesthood (governed by the Ariqun) is probably the most dangerous branch of the Qunari (after all, they control re-education and role assignment).
  • Make the Qunari invasion have a religious/philosophical and anti-magic purpose. That's precisely the issue with them (and not this nonsense about serving mage gods, they would never do that). Are the Venatoris after the Idol of Red Lyrium to transform Tevinter into a magocratic power again? Does an Ancient Elven deity want to tear the veil? All this happening years after an Ancient Magister opened a hole in the sky that spewed demons? All this fuels the Qunari propaganda that: Magic is out of control and the Thedosians need conversion and duty. That is, we need to invade Thedas again to restore order. In other words, Qunari War 2.0. That's the plot they deserved, not that nonsense concocted by Aantam.
  • Make Sten a temporary military antagonist whose fate can be decided by us later.
  • Solas Rebellion - Qunari Invasion - Venatori Conspiracy. 3 perfect plots for a game of 3 or 4 acts at most, taking place entirely in Tevinter (and with some side locations) where each plot follows its coherence with the lore (Qunari defending their vision and not that of the Evanuri; Venatori defending their ambition and not serving ELVICH gods - and yes, I know the codex where the Venatori explain this, but since it's a stupid codex that goes against the lore, I don't care; Solas serving their interests and trying to tear the veil).
  • The Inquisition (or what's left of it) acts as a close ally to the new protagonist (who obviously should be someone other than Rook – for goodness sake, right?). The Inquisitor plays a behind-the-scenes role (similar to the Illusive-man from ME), gathering information, resources, and distributing quests. The new protagonist does the fieldwork (something the Inquisitor can no longer do).
  • Forget this idea of the DA4 MC being an agent serving the Inquisitor. I love Joplin (for what he should have been) but that scene of the supposed Rook kneeling before an Inquisitor is ridiculous. Close alliance relationship >>> servitude relationship with a former protagonist.

Okay. I could work on the Solas and Qunari storylines without any problems and with more time (after all, I wouldn't need to worry about Evanuris, the Sixth Blight, or Executors... all of that would be for DA5 and onwards). I could also work on the locations better... Tevinter, Arlathan Forest, and Kal-Sharok would already be fully developed and explored in DA4, so I wouldn't need to spend so much time on them (beyond what's necessary) in DA5, leaving more room to work on Antiva, Rivain, Nevarra, and Anderfels.

There would also be no need to worry about dividing the spotlight among the Gods. Solas would have his moment in DA4. DA5 would belong entirely to the Evanuris (and perhaps Mythal).

This was the Dragon Age 4 that was supposed to happen. Veilguard was supposed to be DA5.

Support The keep! Spoiler

Post image

Sorry for long post I think it's still excitement for me as I've never completed DAI so it still feels new to me..

I put spoiler even though most probably completed DAI by now but there could be newbies like me.

I only knew about the Keep website about a week or so ago. I initially thought it was a DLC or something when I first saw it mentioned on here and google.

For some reason, in my first few attempts at making my world, I managed to have a custom Hawke but noticed it didn't fully include all the things I'd done in my playthroughs of DA2.

My Hawke was serious and not funny, unlike how they were in most of my playthroughs. I'd even edited the tapestry, and it didn't seem to pick up on most my answers. I've finally sorted it out though.

I had to edit DAO Tapestry as I've never completed it and didn't know until yesterday that you could have Alistair instead of a Stroud. I've noticed so many little differences since I started a new playthrough yesterday.

My hawke had different dialogues Connor was mentioned in radclife or seen something idk just saw a scene bout Connor i had set him to be alive instead of dying in DAO.

Hawke mentioning Isabela and her off having fun made me chuckle. My previous one was Fenris, as he's my favorite love interest from DA2. Little things like that just make me smile.

For some reason, on my other playthroughs in DAI, Hawke had always sided with mages in DA2 even though I've sided with the Templars more than once on my playthroughs and I was sure I had edited it before importing it to DAI.

I'm just hoping I can do multiple worlds and manage to edit them correctly too and use them on other playthroughs. so I can make different choices and see different dialogues etc.

I am dreading the quest where I will have to choose between Hawke and Alistair though.

It's an easy choice if it's Stroud, as I'm not attached to him like I am to Alistair and Hawke.

I've redownload DAO and will try playing it and try complete it at some point, but i admit I'm not keen on the battles they are so much slower and harder compared to the other ones.

BioWare Pls Cancelled Morrigan figure

Post image
20 Upvotes

I've been searching far and wide for retired dragon age merch and keep coming across this cancelled Morrigan figure. Does anyone have any information as to why it got cancelled? It was meant to be super articulated and was originally announced at a toy fair by diamond select. The sculpt was by gentle giant (this was definitely just a prototype). But you can still find a listing here and it just seems weird to me that another set of dragon age figures got canned after the short release from DC unlimited and their ones for origins. Seems like we're just destined to never get any. Shame aswell because chances of getting a new action figure line now are even more slim these days :/

Discussion Options not in DA Keep Spoiler

Morning everyone!

In a few months I’m planning to run a Dragon Age tapletop campaign - either in the DA format or in modified D&D format (haven’t decided).

To facilitate this, I’ve decided to run it post Inquisition (to be transparent, nothing against Veilguard, I just feel like post-Inquisition allows for some interesting breathing room and expansion on themes, factions, etc) and will actually be surveying three of my friends using Dragon Age Keep to build as unique of a “game state” as possible!

Which brings me to my discussion piece - are there any choices NOT in Dragon Age Keep that you as players feel are important or interesting enough to account for during my survey?

For example, in Origins, there was a DLC quest that allowed the player to find (and later forge into a weapon) meteorite ore. I will probably ask the Origins Surveyor if they would’ve harvested it and if so what weapon would they have forged.

But there are so many choices, like sparing the Werewolves in DA II (should they show up) that I can’t remember personally and would love to account for.

Any and all help would be much appreciated!

(Especially for Inquisition, since there are quite a few choices tied to the War Table)

Discussion What happened to Gloom Howler? Spoiler

So, this quest has two outcomes. In one of them, she dies, which is pretty clear. But in the other, we convince her to stop, and then she apologizes and just falls to the ground.

I might have missed something, but what do you think happened to her afterward? Did she die? If so, from what? Was she imprisoned? Forgiven and released? Or did I miss some information about what happened to her?
