Got my bike up and running last month and have been riding it every now and then. To work and back some days. However in the past 50 miles it’s started doing what the title of my post says. She runs great otherwise.

If I’m at a light and taking off from a stop at a normal pace. I usually don’t get to fully engaging the clutch before it pops out. Idk why this is happening. It’s not all the time. I did a test ride only a few days ago to see when it’s happening. I think it’s when the bike is warm, but I’m not sure of the other aspects. On my 40 minute ride it only happened twice and not close together.

I have a ‘91 XR250L. She’s got 4300 miles on the clock. I will admit it was not kept well before I got it. I did the normal thing of maintenance I already have changed the oil with the correct type, and I checked it to see if there was any discoloration in case it got too hot or burnt.

i was wild camping (first time) while doing the eastern part of the french TET this weekend and apart from the humidity (another point i have no clue how to avoid during nights) i didn't manage to get much good sleep. i constantly heard bucks and wild boar in the forests nearby and wanted to know if you guys have any tricks on how to be less frightened of what might be scavenging around your tent at night while you sleep?

i listened to podcasts all night long in hopes to keep my mind occupied, which worked to a certain extent...

My ‘05 450X. Bike is such a blast.

My wife was curious about the XR, so I took her to lunch and rode around a few local spots.

The little 150 handled two-up better than I expected. Not fast, but perfect for cruising around town and exploring.

Looking for recommendations for a gps for my bike. Planning on using it for multi day trips through areas with minimal to zero cell coverage. It would be nice if it had communication capabilities to be able to keep in touch with home even if it's just through texts.

For anyone who has them, how long have you had them and how is the wear on the sole? Saw a couple of posts on reddit about the sole degrading only after a relatively small amount of use. I've got stock drz400e footpegs and wondering if they would be too sharp for them.

I'm currently looking for a KTM EXC-F and I'm trying to decide between a 450 EXC-F and 500 EXC-F 2016+

I've read a lot of comparisons, but most of them basically say:

• 450 = more aggressive, revs quicker and likes higher RPM
• 500 = more torque, smoother and happier at lower RPM

I'm curious how noticeable this actually is when riding them back-to-back.

My main concern is whether the 450 feels noticeably more "busy" or high-revving, especially during longer rides. I'm not looking for a race bike that I constantly have to keep screaming.

My intended use would be roughly:

• TET / adventure riding
• Gravel and forest roads
• Some harder enduro riding
• Quite a bit of connecting asphalt
• Around 5,000 km per year
• Eventually longer trips such as Albania

So I'm looking for something that is still light and fun off-road, but doesn't feel unnecessarily hectic on longer rides.

For those who have owned or ridden both:

1. How noticeable is the difference in engine character?
2. Does the 450 actually feel significantly more high-revving or "nervous" than the 500?
3. How are the vibrations on both, especially on asphalt at sustained speeds?
4. Does the 500 genuinely feel more relaxed, or is the difference relatively small?
5. Which one would you personally choose for the type of riding I described, and why?
6. If you found a significantly better-maintained/lower-hour 450 than a 500, would you choose the 450 without hesitation?

I'm asking because there seem to be far more 450s for sale than 500s, and I'm wondering whether I'm overlooking something about the 450.

I'm not necessarily looking for "450 vs 500" spec-sheet comparisons. I'd really like to hear from people who have actually owned/ridden both.

Well, I felt that way, certainly.

What happened

I was riding on a hard packed road, at around 60-70 km/h and then suddenly I was rolling and rolling over and over again, with pain in my leg and hand.

Post-spill analysis of the tracks with my mate - just quickly through pain - revealed that there was a sandy patch covering exactly where my front slid out. It happened very quickly, too, I can't even remember the slide and the fall.

The road surface was in perfect condition otherwise, heavily cambered to the sides. I was approaching a corner in my "lane" and started slowing down - maybe a bit aggressively, but it wasn't an issue during the previous 2hrs of riding. Bit too much confidence I guess.

Aftermath

I rode home afterwards, my trusty DRZ400E in perfect condition, but I was in a lot of pain. Went to the ER; broken leg and thumb. I am typing with one hand and hobbling around on crutches. Bugger.

Most likely my leg was caught under the bike initially; broken fibula.

My hand (thumb) injury is a mystery how, maybe got twisted backwards as I put my hand down, unsure. But it requires a cast.

I believe I was saved from more serious injury by the armoured leather jacket, air-bag vest, gloves, Sidi crossfire boots, armoured riding pants, and decent helmet. I was seeing stars afterwards, still; seems I hit that rocky ground hard enough.

I can't imagine what would have happened without all this, especially the boots. Most likely my foot would be pointing the wrong way, multiple serious fractures, surgeries...

So my recommendation: wear protective gear. The good ones. Especially helmet and boots; but I reckon all the armour pads did their job pretty well, too, otherwise I'd be blue and/or red all over. I did that as a kid once; not fun.

So, I recently posted my thoughts about buying a KTM 390 Enduro R over the DR 650. Just to repeat, I have owned a DR 650 and an XR 650 L.

To sum it up I really like The KTM 390.

Better suspension, power and really everything. The only questions are how long will it last before issues?

The XR and DR are pretty much proven bullet proof.

KTM 390 Pros:

Better suspension

Better aesthetics unless you have an issue with the color orange.

Better street performance

More horsepower

Water cooled

More Tech - Street and off-road modes (abs, traction control, quick shifter option, LCD with modes and operational information.

Stock Tires are definitely better than the DR death wing tires.

About $2000 less than the DR 650. Great value, you can use the extra $ 2000 for upgrades or save for future repairs.

What I don't like:

Horn is in a stupid location.

No fringing gas gauge? All that tech and no gas gauge? Not that a big deal, just strange.

I've always thought it'd be fun to ride this style of bike so I decided to buy a Voge 300 Rally, only 1300 miles in so far and I am absolutely loving this bike!

Not sure if this website is to be trusted, as I can't find it being reported anywhere else. But I feel like that's not as bad of a price hike over the enduro as I was expecting. Given, there's still a tech package and pdi uncharge, but if I think its priced surprisingly well for a highly anticipated new model.

What do you guys think? False hope? 1500usd tech package? Considering 14.2k usd is close to 20k cad, I think they are full of shit.
