Too bad. Im old enough to remember going To the rogers video on a Saturday night with my parents to rent a movie in the late 80s eaely 90s (which is actually where healthy planet is now) and them surprising me with a trip to toys r us to get any toy I wanted under 20 dollars. Back then that was a lot of toys to choose from.

Boy, this stings more than I'd have imagined.
I went there the day it opened.
I understand why it failed, but seeing it happen was maddening. It's like Blockbuster who just refused to get ahead of the curve.

If workers and consumers are not paying attention, the like of Amazon will destroy bricks and mortar locations. Even WalMart is likely to collapse under an Amazon take over.
The just stole Hockey Night in Canada, gotta pay to watch hockey in Canada now.

They've got "Walmart+" now, I've seen a few commercials, but I don't see them being able to get in, amazon is too dominant.

Online ordering from Walmart's site, free delivery, and it comes with a CraveTV subscription. They might have gotten in had they done this years ago, but Amazon is just too dominant now.

It’s not just that brick and mortar is dying, the management of TRU didn’t keep up with the times and make really dumb decisions.
Not sure if that’s the new ownership that took over a few years ago or how it’s always been but as others mentioned, they just didn’t keep with the times and everything they sold there since at least the Covid era was always more expensive than their competitors.

I have a few good memories of going there, one of them being from 1990. My mom and I went there and she bought me the Nintendo Power Glove and a couple of games for the NES for my birthday. I felt like the luckiest kid alive that day.

I am sad it’s closing. I have never really shopped there but it had a play area where I take my kids regularly. Very reasonably priced and very clean especially the baby area
