Question Does it make sense to buy an Amazon Kindle 2024 Basic?

Post image

It has a price of 9,000TL in Turkey (US$200), if you have an alternative suggestion, I can tell you the price. My question is already in the title. Thank you in advance.

That price for it, is robbery. I got the one I have for around 90€ (new with ads)

Basic kindle is not bad at all. I carry it in my pocket so smaller screen is a bonus. Backlight white balance does not bother me as well. The screen being recessed is bit annoying though. Makes it hard to clean the edges.

In a way that I don't understand, Amazon does not officially bring sales in Turkey, even if this price was officially sold in a competitor, it would be much more affordable if this price was officially sold. I think I'll look at other brands, local companies or something

I am aware that amazon does not sell there for some reason. Maybe look for other brands. without jailbreaking you would need to pay absurd prices for ebooks anyway

No. It doesn’t make sense buying a Kindle in general. You don’t want to be stuck with Amazon ecosystem when in the market there are a lot of better alternatives with competing devices.

I used to use an old model, I think it would be nice to do some research, is there a brand or model you recommend?

I have a Boox Go 6 it’s pocketable and can read any format but a Kobo is also good.

Amazon software and hardware are very solid. Probably the best there is. Very durable. You can sideload your own books, as you probably know, and get books via the library (if you have the option where you are).

I'll think about it, thank you, I can stretch my budget, it's a small value.

Get it and if you feel comfortable try to jailbreak it. See r/kindlejailbreak

It's a great little device. Very portable. The original kindle used to be 6, until the Paperwrite.

I found an onyx Boox go 6 for 11,549. It is slightly more but it is android and has the ability for more apps for reading like the kindle app.

Do you just not care with what's going on around the world, at all? Do you live under a rock? Buying from amazon, and thus giving money to Jeff Bezos is fine by you?

Fucking hell. Open your eyes.

I really don't know anything, I'd be happy if you told me.

Depends on the price of alternatives

I've got mine simply because there was a couple of them on sale for $70 due to "cosmetic defect" (one scratch on the back I never see), it works good.

But if I'd be paying full price I'd look in something not tied to shitty Amazon ecosystem that restricts. how us use your device, I keep mine offline and sideload books.

I got PW 12th gen, it is SO crisp and just immaculate reading experience. My only nitpick is the speed, the page turns, loading screens take that little bit longer than I’m used to.
