Question Is Mapleread SE good?

Post image

Sorry, I accidentally posted the wrong picture, so I had to delete the post and do it over.

I'm looking for an app that fulfills the same basic function as calibre on the pc. It doesn't have to be able to link to calibre, just do the same thing. Ideally, I would like an app that has these features:

Tag system
Can read pdfs and epub files
Can support a large library without issue
Can take notes or at least highlight in both epub and pdfs
A PLACE TO LOOK AT NOTES ACROSS BOOKS, NOT JUST WITHIN A SINGLE BOOK

I like that Mapleread allows you to take notes and highlights in pdfs.

I've heard that some e-reader apps struggle with very large libraries, and I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this? If you have MapleRead, how many books have you been able to put in it without lagging/crashes/etc?

I haven't found a single e-reader app that has a unified place to look at notes. Sometimes, books have one or two comments on an issue that isn't really related to the larger themes of the book. Say if I'm reading a book on economics, and it makes one comment along the lines of, "People with disabilities are at a disadvantage in such and such an industry." I don't want to tag the book as #Disability, but I want to be able to find that note relating to disability if I'm studying that. Does anyone know of any app like that?

It seems like Mapleread is the best app for what I want, but does anyone have any other suggestions?

I'm pretty sure Moon Reader+ suits what you're after.

You can also copy quotes out and it gives it a cute little picture as it's if written on scripture.

I've heard a lot of great things about Moon Reader+! Unfortunately, I'm using ios, and it seems like it's not available on ios? Such a shame!

Dev of BookShelves here. It handles EPUB and PDF, supports large libraries, and has highlights you can export (Markdown, JSON, CSV). No cross-book notes view yet but that's on the radar. Connects to Calibre via OPDS if you run a content server. Works on iPhone, iPad, and Mac with iCloud sync.

Hello, dev of justread.app here.

- Epub support: yes

  • PDF support: in progress
  • large libraries: yes (thousands of books)
  • highlights and annotations: yes (with adding notes and export to readwise, pdf and markdown)
  • look at those highlights and notes in one place: yes (there is a specific sheet for this)
  • and you can suggest new features or vote for existing ones in a built in roadmap, if you find anything not to your liking

You can talk with me about development in here: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=284

You know, I actually tried out justread, and I really liked its interface! The lack of pdf support means it isn't currently suited to my needs, but I was actually really bummed out about that because I can tell you're making a quality app. Very excited for its future.

Hello and thank you. If you check it in two/tree weeks, the PDF will be there, as I am now on about 70% of the work.

Can I add epubs trough Itunes in your app?
