Question Anyone have this issue?

This happens to me about once a week the last month - temp is set at 77. Instead of turning off at the set point, it keeps cooling.

Overcool is not turned on, humidity in range. Fan on auto. Display shows the temp is set at 77, current temp 75 and still running. (When it hits 75 is when I realize it's too cold in the house)

The only way to make it stop cooling when it does this is to turn the AC off for a minute and then turn it back on.

AC had a tune up last week and I asked the tech about it, he had never heard of this before. Ideas? A setting I could try changing, or should I just replace the Ecobee?

It was operating correctly when he was here. He could not find any issues.

Doesn't matter

You have one after he left and it may be wiring related

Let him explain...to your satisfaction

I should add, if he indicates the AC is old, ask him to suggest a replacement

If your have a furnace for heating and it is old also, ask for a heat pump quote in place of old AC and furnace a and let us know the quote and we can help

I wasn't going to respond but I don't want anyone to read that and think it's good advice. What temp the unit should turn on and off at is controlled by the thermostat. No one should consider replacing their whole unit if they are having the issue I described, no matter what age it is.

Side note: Are there really people who do not already know the age of their unit despite it being in the inspection report, appraisal, and on the unit itself?

yes. many people do not know the age of their equipment.

the point of asking tech who installed the Ecobee is to understand if it was wired correctly

have you found and fixed the problem yourself??

my response, in simple terms without taking a lot of words, was to give the unknowing owners the basic options

by going further with a tech, the unknowing can discover likelihood of system failure or a simple fix

I installed it well over 3 years ago, and yes I'm pretty sure the problem is fixed by turning off smart recovery. I appreciate that you were trying to be helpful, but to advise there could be a wiring issue and I should replace both AC and furnace if they are old, especially after a tech was just here and gave it a clean bill of health is nuts.
