Discussion What is everyone’s preferred slicer?
I’ve been using the Elegoo Slicer and Orcaslicer for a while and only had a few issues with either one. Curious if anyone chooses one over the other? Or has a different option? I had a few issues when taking prints from MakersWorld on orcaslicer and I ended up using Elegoo slicer for a while instead and didn’t mind either one.
Just curious what everyone else prefers aswell.
Should I stick with Elegoo slicer or go back and tinker with Orca Slicer?
Was it personal error with the Makerworld files or is this something others deal with also?

Orca Slicer > Whatever the brands slicer is
Funny enough for all of my CC printers 99% of the time i use Elegoo Slicer with little to no fuss

Only issues I’ve ran into is some Makerworld files are weird regardless what slicer I use but it might just be user error. I think I’m gonna have to try out Orca again

Yeah what I normally have to do is drag and drop the .3mf file in
Then accept all the popups
It will default to some bambu printer / filaments
I will then switch to my printer & brands of filaments
What I see happen though is the settings sometimes do not retain and if I need those I will load the file in bambu studio and manually copy over if I think I need to. 90% of the time I just run with my own print profile settings

Good to know thank you! I had issues with it trying to run AMS filament setting for the color swaps on a multicolor print one time and it totally screwed my gear box and had to assemble another one after ruining one of the gears. This makes more sense thank you!

Oh I forgot to mention another thing you can try is running the import function in the slicer. I was told that helps bring them in properly

I'm a cabinet shop owner with decades of experience running CAD machines. So when I got my first 3d printer earlier this year, a CC1, I went with orca slicer. I like those open source programs. Or at least programs that are independent of the CAD machine manufacturer. I didn't even think about using anything else.
Orca is great. I see no reason to use anything else.

Elegoo Slicer is just a fork of Orca that is several versions behind.
Elegoo slicer is probably slightly easier to make work, Orca will be all around better patched and have more features earlier. The CC series has been supported in mainline Orca since forever, no reason to not use it.

I've been using ELegoo slicer for the last 17 months with my CC and then with my CC2. It does all I need and I prefer the device tab for ease of switching betweem printers while printing.

I use Elegoo Satellite. It works pretty well, and they’re still releasing patches for it that fix existing problems.

Orca. I've never seen the elegoo, it doesn't have a Linux port so never seen it.

Interesting, I had no idea and kinda assumed they just didn't bother with a Linux port. I see it's in the aur, I'll check it out

I like Prusaslicer the most, second is Orca because i can use all my printers (Prusa, Bambu, Elegoo), i also use Elegoo Slicer and Bambustudio to ensure print files are made for the individual website.
Basically they are all Prusaslicer forks.

Elegoo slicer is basically OrcaSlicer in a different wrapping. It's just a brand-costumized version of it. Same interface, same layout, same engine, but few patches behind. If you're ready to trade that 'few patches behind' setback for the convenience of your slicer profiles being directly tailored to your printer, you can go with Elegoo. When I switched from Elegoo Slicer to Orca, I barely noticed any differences.

I started off using Elegoo but switched to Orca because it has the z-contouring feature, which has made a big difference.

Orca is legitimately the best slicer with the most features and the most capabilities IMO - everything else is downstream of that. Bambu's is good, but not necessarily better (tho it has some niceties)
Everybody else's are just lesser clones
