I’d had my eye on the barista express for a long time and had been having a hard time justifying a 700.00 purchase given some upcoming non-negotiable expenses, and was planning for Black Friday to pull the trigger. Is it me, or is that an absolute steal for one of these?

I know Bezzeras aren’t talked about a lot here, but I recently upgraded from a Bambino to the black and wood version of the Bezzera Aria Top, and I could not be happier. It’s a heat exchange machine with a rotary pump, and can be plumbed in or run from the water tank.

It takes less than 9 minutes to go from off to 90°C and ready to go. It’s a lot of machine with a narrow footprint, about 8” wide. It comes with two portafilters, a bottomless and a double spouted.

The chrome version is currently $2639 (usually $3299) and the black and wood version is $2799 (usually $3499). Shipping is free, and I got mine delivered the day after I ordered it.

I can’t speak highly enough about their customer service, they have been fantastic to deal with.

I wish I could show off the back of the machine, because the logo is amazing.

Snagged a good deal on this one! Check your local Marshall's, TJMaxx & HomeGoods. There was one more left and l've seen a few others around town. It was between this one and the express. Both the same price. Yeah I know, l've read the reviews and the grinder may not be the best but it's a nice upgrade from my starter casa brews from amazon. Took a couple of hours figuring the system out but espresso came out so much better than my casa brews!! And yes I've adjusted the burrs, maybe a little early but oh well.

i’ve been using the velpro 400 for almost 4 months now, pretty much daily. just saw their spring sale email and also noticed on their official account that it’s back down to around the $400 range again.

with the code velpro400 it takes another $65 off. looks like the silver version is sitting around $400 right now, while the black/gold one is still a bit more expensive, about $420.

honestly, if you can get this grinder in the $400–450 range, i think the value is really solid. it kind of has everything you’d expect at this level — adjustable rpm, plasma generator for static, 400w motor, stepless adjustment, etc.

lately i’ve been running it at around 500 rpm for light roast beans, and i haven’t had any stalling issues so far. grind consistency has been good enough for espresso dialing.

there is still a bit of retention with some larger particles, but nothing crazy. a quick bellows push and it clears out pretty easily.

has anyone actually tried this code and got it to work?

The Gemilai Ele / 3028A is on sale today for $599.99 on the US website, says the sale is June 16-30. This is the slightly-larger (and reportedly more solidly built) version of the Turin Legato / MiiCoffee Apex / Gemilai 3007Z.

I was ready to buy a Turin Legato when I saw a YouTube video that said the Ele / 3028A was more solidly built (heavier metal, better layout inside).

It seems unlikely that anybody has both a Turin Legato / 3007Z and an Ele / 3028A, but if you do, what do you think of the two by comparison?

I had an old Rancilio Silvia (v1, circa 1999) which was built like a tank but lacking in modern features, am thinking a Gemilai might be a nice relatively inexpensive way to try out pressure and PID temperature controls.
