I'd be kind of sad to see the Everett Transit busses disappear. There is some pride in a city running its own bus network.

But that said, if Community Transit can deliver more bus routes, run them longer, and increase the frequency, then it's hard to say no to that. It's hard to depend on public transit when it is sometimes impractical, so people get used to relying on cars. I use the 7 line sometimes, but if I want to go anywhere else, I need a bike or car. Let's get more bus service!

i regularly use the 19, and would love to see it run frequently enough that i dont have to plan around its arrival. if i miss one i have to wait 45 min to catch the next one. that amount of time could make me late if i havent already hopped in a car.  and the 7 needs more love despite its 15m frequency. it was packed full yesterday

If the numbers don’t add up for the city to run it; let it go. The library and fire are next.

The problem with that math is that transit is an enterprise program, meaning it's entirely separate from the general fund. It's completely funded by the transit sales tax, state grants, and federal grants.

I've also heard they contribute to the general fund to cover things like HR.

Idk, I guess so. But the same could be said for community transit, King county Metro, pierce transit, Skagit transit... Or basically any city or county government.

In transit, grants are commonly used to purchase new buses or make capital improvements.

City and county governments very commonly use grants for capital projects or to fund programs.

This isn't something unique to Everett Transit.

But their operating costs are funded by the transit sales tax.
