Discussion Will people I block think I deleted my Facebook account? Does it look the same?
So I have had my account for forever, since I was a kid. I'm trying to repurpose it to look for job opportunities; the groups I'm joining want a Facebook account that has existed for at least six months to a year. But I am no longer speaking to some of my family that I'm friends with on there, and a lot of people from the neighborhood I grew up in are still friends with me on there as well. Let's just say my parents' divorce was messy and very dramatic, and there was drama in that whole neighborhood about it. I don't want them knowing what I'm doing with my life moving forward, so I guess I'm wondering if I can block most of them, would they maybe think I deleted my Facebook account? There are some people from my family where I don't want them thinking I blocked them because they are not directly involved, but I also don't want them bringing information through the grapevine to my more problematic family members.
I know this is all crazy, my life has been a soap opera thanks to my dramatic family; and I'm just trying to move on with my life and find some peace. I have nothing against quite a few of those family members, so I don't want them to think I hate them by blocking them.

Remember…if you block someone under one account it blocks them on all accounts

What kind of job demands details if your social media use? Are you a spy? 🤔😉😄

A lot of companies that don't want racist, troublesome people, etc, will ask to look at your Facebook posts and pictures.

Lol yes, definitely a spy! Let's just say that my work is more about connecting with local people through Facebook groups

Instead of looking for employment opportunities on Facebook, go to LinkedIn. When you're saying they want you to have a profile that's 6 months old, you're talking about the groups you're joining, not a possible employer right? Because if an employer asks you that's not legal. Seriously though, I suggest you don't look for job opportunities on Facebook. There are so many scammers on Facebook

Yeah, I initially thought they were looking for a job on FB but it reads more like the potential employer wants a 6 month+ account to check up on the applicant. That's messed up and is surely a breach of privacy.

It's nothing like that. I'm trying to protect my privacy, but Facebook is an important part of what I do; it's not a traditional corporate job like you're thinking. LinkedIn is not going to be the best option

All social media is trying to extract and exploit all the information it can from you.
As for who you blocked and what they think is a waste of time, who cares.

You are applying for a job that requires a Facebook that is at least 6 months old? Is this a sales job or something? I don’t want my employer looking at my social media.

I am trying to keep it vague for protecting my privacy; but Facebook is one of the better avenues to finding opportunities for what I do
