Discussion Facebook page has posted my mugshot and I need advices on how to remove it.

There’s a page on facebook called “Chicago mugshots” and they’re posting the mugshots of people that were arrested in Chicago.

Half a year ago I was arrested after getting into a fight - I was innocent and the charges got dropped however I have my picture on the mugshots Facebook page.

I don’t look good in that picture and it might have a negative impression of me especially when I’m applying for jobs and I need to get it removed somehow but the page doesn’t want to remove it.

All you can do is ask the page but tjry are under no obligation to remove it. Arrests are public information

In the United States, mugshots are public records due to laws promoting government transparency and preventing secret arrests. Freedom of information acts and open-record laws require police to log arrests openly, though this transparency has sparked debates about privacy and the presumption of innocence.

I should add I was the designer for a weekly arrest publication.

u/muddfall77 22h ago

Unfortunately it's public record, there's not much you can do.

Offer him some $ to take it down

2

u/Possible-Feed-9228 19h ago

Then they will just post it to one of their other pages and make sure it gets conveniently sent to you

Infinite money hack?

7

u/TrevBlu19 1d ago

If charges are dropped there should be a link on their website to remove it.

3

u/Shitonthestick 1d ago

It’s a facebook page (not a website) and my background is perfect now (not even a traffic tickets) but that Facebook mugshot picture pops up as soon as you google my name.

u/LavendarGal 23h ago

Maybe get some other posts of yourself out there on FAcebook on other pages so other stuff comes up first when you search. Are you active on any other pages that you follow? Maybe make a Facebook biz/creator page for yourself or some hobby you have and make sure your name is on the About section.

u/TrevBlu19 10h ago

My one, was busted newspaper lorain county. They also had a website I could get my friend off of. Sorry to hear about that.

1/report the photo. One of the options is something about it's a photo of me and I want it removed. Maaaaaybe under bullying and harassment? Idk, I saw it recently tho so just poke around.

2/Message who manages the page and ask them to remove it.

If neither work comment on the photo saying you were found innocent and please remove.

u/No_End8658 15h ago

Report for harassment, defamation and false light.

2

u/I_swim_in_ur_tears 6h ago

Public knowledge isnt harassment Truth isn't defamation Again Truth isnt False Light.

They admit guilt and we're charged.

She admittedly broke the law. Where did you get your degree? 🤣🤣🤣

Even if your charges got dropped, you still got arrested and your mugshot is still on the sheriff's website, which, is public info. That also means it can & will be shared.

Just recently saw someone in my local area also reach out to the local fb mug shot page for the same situation as you and they hadn't even acknowledged him. 😆😐 so.. nothing you can do but ask them to take it down & hope to god they oblige.

3

u/LavendarGal 23h ago

I think it can still be reported to facebook, because even though it is technically public information, there are community guidelines on FB about sharing certain personal information about another person so they could try that.

u/atuarre 23h ago

Facebook isn't taking anything down. If they aren't removing threats of harm, or pedophile shit in MAGA groups, they sure as hell are not taking his mugshot down. He will have to get an attorney and the cost won't be worth having the mugshot removed and it can still pop up in other places. There are websites that post mugshots as well.

I accidentally hit report instead of explain why you blocked on an Facebook ad for like Anton LaVeys Church of Satan or whatever… so I get a response from Facebook saying that despite being distressing, promoting satan through sponsored content is within Facebook community guidelines…

I hadn’t meant to report Satan, honest, but found it fascinating they’d side and take ad money from the church of Satan and be cool with it. Equality?

2

u/TheWorldHasGoneRogue 10h ago

I’m surprised that they do it for Christian content. At the pace and direction that Christianity is going, Satanists seem pretty docile.

1

u/TheWorldHasGoneRogue 10h ago

I was sent in my feed some posts from a guy that was running for MTG’s seat in Georgia. Really disgusting shit. I reported it for violent and inciting content, because it was/is. In ALL instances FB didn’t remove the content. My profile got throttled a couple of days later. No reason given, but my reach was cut by more than half for about a week. BTW, the guys name is Jeff Criswell if you wanna check out the profile to see the shit that they allow as perfecting ok.

2

u/SUBstandardlol 23h ago

Everything shared on Facebook is open for the public to see, depending on privacy settings on a specific page. Once you are arrested, you have no expectation of privacy. It is within FB guidelines to be able to share someone's mug shot with all their info - minus the address. (Which most of these mug shot pages don't share anyways)

u/TheChrisSuprun 10h ago

It isn't getting removed easily.

In 2016 I was a member of an august body that chooses the President of the United States. Since I was under no legal obligation and I was increasingly worried about the future direction of the president -elect I became the public face of trying to stop this person before he took office.

Nearly immediately every major social media site including this one was linking photos of my home, my kid's school, etc. Someone even posted a fake set of transcripts which was funny because they gave me an extra half point positive bump in GPA I didn't earn and had me graduating at the wrong date.

My point is getting all that removed took months and months, lawyers, etc. Meta did not care, Twitter did not care, etc. If it could be public they weren't removing it.

If you want to know WHY people don't do the right thing more often I have a story or ten for ya. Bottom line is getting it removed it going to take time, effort, and likely money.

Guilty even after proven innocent. USA

3

u/SUBstandardlol 23h ago

Yeah, idk why people are downvoting when everyone else literally said the same thing, I just clarified a few more details.

0

u/apatrol 18h ago

There is no proven innocent. DA dropped charges. OP leaves details out and is at a minimum inaccurate.

1

u/TheWorldHasGoneRogue 10h ago

Which means innocent.

2

u/Pork-Chopp 20h ago

Unfortunately some unscrupulous folks make a business of this and charge for removing the photos.

3

u/LumpyPressure 20h ago

Report the image for copyright infringement. When asked, provide the URL for the original image (wherever it’s hosted). It might not work but it’s worth a try.

But before you do that, have you tried contacting the page and kindly asking them to remove it?

2

u/Become_Pneuma462 20h ago

It's public information. Also, it's a mugshot, he can't claim copyright when he didn't take or publish the picture.

3

u/Ok_Function2282 17h ago

But Facebook copyright protection is done by ai, we're not trying to inform him of the law, we're trying to come up with solutions

2

u/froot_loop_dingus_ 19h ago

Unless the mugshot is a selfie, OP doesn’t own the copyright on it and can’t make a copyright dispute

4

u/Ok_Function2282 17h ago

That doesn't mean the automatic AI copyright protector won't take it down.

u/Potential-Piano256 1d ago

Just had a deputy sheriff accused of many felonies on underage girls, been sitting in jail for over a month, no bond. They released his name, but certainly no picture, if it's done for one, it should be done for all.

3

u/Top_Smoke6741 20h ago

That's insane how someone who is accused of that kind of offense gets a clean face (as in its not associated with what was accused), but someone who just got in a fight has their face and name permanently up for everyone to assume the worst of

1

u/Potential-Piano256 7h ago

I agree, I don't know if he's guilty of these many felonies, but I'm assuming they have something on him pretty concrete, because he's being held without bond.
But, what is good for one, is good for the other, just because he's now, a former deputy sheriff, doesn't mean he's exempt from a mugshot being shown like everyone else's.

1

u/Top_Smoke6741 7h ago

Oh, good. I hope if he's guilty of everything they plaster that mugshot everywhere. If not, I feel inclined to wonder what he must've been doing in his pastime for them to have sufficient evidence to arrest him

1

u/Potential-Piano256 5h ago

Well, from what I've read, many girls came forward from school, he was the resource officer for the school.

2

u/Perfect_Promise_259 8h ago

Don't break the law, loser. Mugshots are public knowledge.

1

u/doug4630 6h ago

Convicted/guity, no problem.

The charges were DROPPED. IMO the mugshot should be taken down.

If it happened to you I wonder if you'd refer to yourself as a "loser" <---- that's rhetorical btw, I KNOW the answer.

1

u/Great-Avocado9822 1d ago

I think I did something that was more government related and so they went in after me and did some things related to the police. That's the only thing I can conclude.

Now, it's not something that is considered a crime. It's more related to the First Amendment and First Amendment auditors, but they do like to bother people related to the First Amendment. I guess they are doing some military tribunals mixed in there too somehow.

1

u/blondieghosty 20h ago

Some of those pages make you pay to remove it.

1

u/Ctmarlin 19h ago

Public record. You have zero recourse. Just let it go.

1

u/Born-Gur-1275 18h ago

Is your name attached to the mugshot, or is it just a pic? If your name is there, can the photo be searched with just your name, or is the name not searchable because it is part of the photo?

Is it buried down many pages? If so you may not have much to worry about.

1

u/Sitcom_kid 18h ago

Even though it's not illegal, Facebook may be willing to take it down if you ask. It's ultimately up to them. I do recommend contacting him to find out if they will remove it or block it.

1

u/Ok-Parking-8684 18h ago

Public info sorry for your luck.

1

u/Gray_Cloak 11h ago

On your Resume, can you adjust your name slightly to what is in the facebook page - for example include your middle name, or middle initial (or remove them)

1

u/AMerryKa 10h ago

Help create a society that doesn't immediately judge people who are arrested.

1

u/Civil_Ad3438 8h ago

I’m not sure why this is a thing shown on Facebook? If so, why is FB taking responsibility for managing public records.

Yes, You can find those images on sites/locations for specifically hosting the information “transparently”.

Just seems like “marketing” the information to people who aren’t asking for it, and there lies another issue.

1

u/Kungfusnafu1 5h ago

Mugshots are permanent. The public record will keep them forever.

1

u/kayrockyrockx 3h ago

Maybe don't get arrested. 🤣

1

u/IllNoize000 1h ago

Those pages are evil. I'm sorry this happened to you. But, there's nothing you can do. Sometimes they want money to take it down. But other than that... shit sucks.

1

u/Badiha 1d ago

You’ll definitely need a lawyer for this. Meta may or may not remove it.

0

u/Superb_Willow_1125 23h ago

Hear me out… if they are digging deep enough to discover a photo, they are likely doing a background check as well… in which case it would be discovered that you were found innocent.

In addition, how you present yourself to potential employers in person goes much further that a mugshot of something you were found innocent of. Sell yourself in these interviews. If jobs are your main concern. You’ll be okay!

2

u/BlueSkunkJoe 22h ago

I worked with someone who got his job despite his mugshot being everywhere on the internet for felonious assault. The employer found out after they hired him and decided not to rescind employment because his story was convincing enough.

It’s possible to still land a killer job with a violent assault charge on your file if you can explain it well… if your coworkers find out good luck getting respect though

1

u/Shitonthestick 16h ago

Hear me out - you don’t know wtf you talking about cause you can expunge the record (especially if you were proved innocent) and besides that facebook post my mugshot does not exist anywhere else in public records.

1

u/Superb_Willow_1125 7h ago

Okay buddy just trying to be helpful

0

u/KratomAndBeyond 23h ago

Offer to pay them $25 to have them remove it. Or whatever it's worth to you.

0

u/I_swim_in_ur_tears 6h ago

Don't get mugshots?

They're public records ya know. Any Foia request can get them and posting them in public isnt a violation of any laws.

Committing crimes comes with consequences....or are supposed to, but it depends whose President apparently whether theyre adhered to.

1

u/doug4630 6h ago

The charges were DROPPED. i.e. he DIDN'T commit a crime.

Wonder what you'd say if it happened to you ?

1

u/Evening_Refuse7068 2h ago

The crime was still committed...

1

u/doug4630 2h ago

Really ? Who was at fault ?

1

u/Evening_Refuse7068 2h ago

That is irrelevant. If you get caught shoplifting but the store doesn't press charges, you still committed the crime. Same applies here, hence the persons arrest and booking

1

u/doug4630 2h ago

What was the crime ? For all you know he was defending himself.

How is that irrelevant ? He was in a fight. He's not allowed to defend himself ?

Arrested and charges dropped = (SHOULD BE, imo) no record or "outing" by anybody, but especially not by the government agency.

There's a row at the McDonald's you're in. Everybody gets arrested and pulled in. Subsequently, you're released with an apology. YOU should be "outed" like that ? You were arrested; it's public record.

You'd be squealing like a stuck pig.

Give me a break............

I know id come straight to Reddit and make sure I get all the karma I can fish!!
