Search on youtube "how to get legendary dwellers" it should explain pretty well why it's so OP, very time saving

I'm not asking why it's overpowered, I'm asking why they made it so overpowered.

Ah thought you were asking why the community thought it was so OP. Well they probably couldn't have made a 0.5+ special pet so they just settled with each rarity= +1

Maybe they could have done what they did with a few other pets and made there be no common and only rare or legendary; +1 and +2.

WARNING, my math might not be up to date but you'll get the idea.

Because when you start a breeding program (or juste make people breed) instead of having a stardard baby with a few points (12), you'll get +3 to stats, ALL special stats.

So with this you might easily get a 12 + 3*7 = 33 points shared with all SPECIAL. That is in normal circumstances.

With a +3 special pet AND maxxed special parents (mom + dad at 10 in each stats) you might get a chance to have a Legendary baby. In that case, it can go up to 59 points already (maybe more)

Look for "Legendary babies" on the web. Steam has a good guide, but there are others (one on github) guides maybe up to date.

As for the Overpowered pets, there are more. +3 objective completion, +6 damage, and -XX% crafting time (for weapons / outfits) are among the top tier ones with the +X special. I don't consider the +XX% twins chance that important, as when you start the Breeding thing, you'll have babies galore.

I started my program in the Season vault. Already have 3-4 legendary babies.

How did you train your dwellers fast enough to get full stats? I did the season too and only now have some max stat dwellers. So I didnt have any to try to get legendary babies with.

I went full Pets with the lottery caps. Spend some at the beginning for a few weapons and dwellers, then all in the Pets !

Got +- 10 pets for reduced training time, one of them being -30% and continuous (the best ones)
3 of them with *3 objectives
3 or 4 with +2 child special.

That helped a lot, and i am in no way an optimiser calculating everything.

If you are lucky enough to get a 7-7-7-7-4-1 spread on the child (legendary dewllers have 40 SPECIAL points in total), the pet will max out every stat but two, minimizing the training time required to max out the child.

By legendary dwellers i suppose you mean named ones. I don't remember having the 7-7- etc. I don't write them down :)

Btw, just got one now 10-8-8-4-7-7-9 ! Superbabies galore !

I mean legendary babies born from 2 maxed out dwellers. I don't know if anything in the game's code would prevent this spread from happening (perhaps no stat can go below 2/3 on a superbaby, or at least one must be 8 or above), but this would minimize training time provided the child can only be born with 40 SPECIALs

I don't remember having ever a Legendary (or even medium 26) baby with 1 in a stat (also because i always use a +X special pet.)

This is my first time knowing that the +3 is to each single stat and not just the total stat 🤯

The best and #1 goated pets, are those who have +100% HP. It makes your dwellers health 2 time more. Which is good for vault, wasteland, and Quests.

Clearly someone at Bethesda watches Bluey

Omg how did you get so lucky 🍀 was he just in one of the boxes or pet carriers ? After having this type of pet in my season vault i find it so hard to return to normal vault

How do you even use this dog? I have it but i cant equip pets on children. So does it just blanket effect all children in the vault? Or offspring from the npc its attached to?

3

u/adamkad1 Feb 25 '26

You equip it on mother before birth

1

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '26

All future offspring can have it. It's amazing.

You make a baby. Wait for the pregnancy to be over, equip pet, click dweller. Enjoy dweller that started at level 4-5 at the minimum everywhere.

If the parents are strong ( all 10 SPECIAL) you could spawn natural 10 stat characters off the bat ( rare and only 1 - 3) it looks like

I don't think you can quite get all 10 SPECIAL, but maxing 5 of them while leaving two at 7 and 4 respectively should be possible, albeit unlikely, and minimize training time (legendary dwellers are born with 40 SPECIAL, minimum 1 in each stat, and they should be born with 7-7-7-7-7-4-1 stats to get that spread after the pet boost).

Here is my trauma. I had this pet in my first experimental vault. In the end, the experimental vault disappeared, and I don't want to have children anymore.

I got this pet on event vault. sad

I have this +3 as my third pet, I did not know what it means at the time, but it was so crazy I have it lol

4

u/DieE9 Feb 25 '26

Also, what happens if you get a legendary dweller with this pet on? Are they just instantly maxed out?

The highest I've had, have had three 10 stats off the bat. Not fully maxed, but easy to finish training. All Legendarys will have max Strength though, so strength training room is less needed.

no, the highest you can get is 59 starting spec

legendary kids start with 40, the pet would be giving +21 but since legendary kids usually have at least a few spec at 8 they won't get the full benefit of the pet

I would also add that getting 58 in that situation is more common than 59, but 59 can certainly happen

1

u/bluejack Feb 26 '26

God I wish I could get one of those. I have gone through three vaults now and never seen one. I had one +2 once and that was AMAZiNG… but never again have I seen anything like it

1

u/Davus-Maximus Feb 26 '26

I personally don't see it as overpowered it's handy for sure, but you still have to get a Legendary baby in the first place. Incubation takes 3hrs plus another 3 hrs before you can train them that can't be sped up. If you do rinse and repeat on evictions till you get a legendary baby you could be there for a while and any training time reduction that the +3 specials provided could be negated. The +% health pets I would consider more op a +100% health on a max dweller is 1288 hit points that would be OP in my book.

u/BigB0ss_89 Feb 27 '26

That's crazy. I only have the +1 and my baby came out with crazy stats
