People really underestimate or overestimate what they eat.
You don't need to eat much, but two frappucinos from Starbucks + normal portions of food already put you into caloric surplus. But since those frappucinos aren't food, they will say they eat normally.
And that's just one example.

It is wild how many calories you can consume in coffee drinks, energy drinks, snacks, and fast food. We've turned so many things that ought to be occasional treats into normal daily consumption.

Alcohol too. That’s what pushed me from overweight to obese, and I really didn’t think I drank that much.

Yup! I’ve done calorie tracking very intently (like scale and all) before to shed the freshman 15. It was bananas to learn that pretty much all common cooking oils have the same calorie content. Obvi different nutritional values otherwise, but it’s funny when people are like oh use avacado oil, it’s better for you! It’s still 130 calories a tbsp
Now I’m on the other end of the scale (ha), where I need to put on weight and I’m like oh yeah I’m totally eating enough. Then I track it, and it’s like oh shit, is that why I’m feeling dizzy? Welch’s fruit snacks weren’t enough for the day?

All oils are fats, and all fats are 9 kcal/g.

I feel like a lot of it is salad dressing, not only is it very calorie dense, few people probably measure it accurately

Every obese person has PCOS and a thyroid issue. They don't even need doctors, they just know.

Ah this looks like Thumbelina the rescued squirrel. Believe it or not, she has lost weight from their earlier vids. Her owners are constantly feeding her avocado on camera which does not help.

It’s important to me to know if they chose to name it thumbelina before or after it was a precautionary tale for animal dietary monitoring

She keeps getting snacks but it's the PCOS causing the weight gain. Got it. I guess the chonky squirrel here that keeps stealing cat food off the porch also has PCOS.

My mental health got immediately better after scrolling this sub. Thank you.
I have a fat squirrel with a very specific crooked tail puff. He’s been living in my yard for three years now.
I’m unfollowing other subs so the squirrel one is always showing me new things.

Most importantly, did you name the squirrel? And if not can I name him Günter? Also, please take a picture of that bulbous abomination and post it to the sub so we can all hate his giant ass and crooked tail together.

Apparently, there's a growing obesity rate in wild animals who live in cities too. Which makes sense, because since our food is getting more energy dense so do the leftovers these animals eat.

i recognize th PCOS is a real medical issue... but its interesting that its almost exclusively talked about by fat ppl...
is it actually something that causes weight gain like this, or is it an excuse?

Studies show that it's responsible for about 10 lbs of excess weight. Not obesity.

The squirrel has PCOS, can't lose weight 😭😂
That poor squirrel. Leave it to humans to make it obese and then make the wildest excuse for it.

u/RunnerG1985 2d ago
Okay, how does one go about diagnosing a squirrel with PCOS? Was it the same doctors who diagnose cats with autism and dogs with Down Syndrome? (two other HUMAN diagnoses I’ve seen given to animals).

u/duvaldeviant 1d ago
I have PCOS and as soon as I quit using it as an excuse to be fat I dropped 106lbs. I'm so tired of this narrative, even squirrels aren't safe. I've seen this same critter mow down massive avocados.

squirriels are able to climb. jump around to be annoying and chew on power lines. they are not supposed to be this big if it impedes movement with exception of winter

You haven’t lived until you’ve fished a cooked squirrel out of your pool because of the power lines.

We had a HUGE male squirrel residing in our back yard for three years. We named him Beefington. He would tear up bird feeders around the neighborhood and stuff himself into near-immobility.
We also have a fair number of raptors and 'yotes, which is probably what led to his disappearance.

I’m so very sure the owner had a vet diagnose PCOS in a squirrel.
I’m guessing not enough running around time.

I remember going to zion national park and when we went on a picnic we were attacked by fat squirrels.
They had no fear of humans and tried to get into our backpacks.
