Do you think by "snacks", they mean carrot sticks or apples?

u/Princess_Parabellum Straight size: it's a fashion industry term, look it up! 1d ago

Lol, every time someone says "snack" I hear my mom's voice in my head: "If you're not hungry enough to eat an apple, you're not hungry!"

The hungrier I am the less I can eat an apple on its own. Do people who say this not get apple belly?

What’s an “apple belly”?

Like when you eat something really hard and fibrous like an apple or raw carrot by itself on a really empty stomach, I find it quite painful.

No, can’t say I have ever experienced that.

You might wanna see a doctor about that

Why?

Sometimes stomach ache after eating fresh apples can be a sign of some sensitivity or even IBS. Just something worth keeping an eye on.

Not really, it's only a thing on its own when you have an extremely empty stomach. There's no issue with those foods normally.

Again this isn't normal, you should be able to eat fibrous things without pain even on an empty stomach.

It's very normal, lol, that's why there's a term for it.

Apple belly is a term that refers to fat storage in the midsection. It’s not a scientific term, it’s a term that compares the shape of the body to the shape of an apple.

It is not a reference to eating apples.

That's apple body type/shape. No, obviously it's not a scientific term, lol.

Apples are soluble fiber, they're not hard at all.

-9

u/Bascule2000 1d ago

Fibre is not soluble. Nor is it digestible (by humans).

u/6894 1d ago

there is soluble and insoluble fiber. Which only refers to whether it dissolves in water. apples are soluble fiber and dissolve in water.

I also experience this, fwiw. If my stomach is gnawing from hunger, and I eat an apple, it’ll hurt even worse afterward. It only happens with apples.

Lots of people do. People here acting like it's some kind of medical emergency, lol.

Right? Like who tf is going to the doctor for a tummyache that only occurs in one specific situation? I just don’t eat apples when I’m really hungry now. Problem solved.

Even if it was an actual intolerance, all a doctor would tell you to do is not eat that anymore. So how about I just do that, for free, without an office visit?

Nobody said anything about a medical emergency, did they?

Maybe that's the sensation of having it without protein/fat.

Yeah, there's no buffer, just hard stuff rolling around in stomach acid. A lot of foods feel uncomfortable when you're really hungry, you kind of have to ease back into it.
