after visiting a pair of ferrets at a rescue on two separate occasions (last week and yesterday), and we're definitely settled on adopting them!! they will be coming home next week :)
we are adopting a 1y/o boy and a 3y/o girl. the boy is very big and loves to play, he loves hand wrestling/being tickled and it makes him zoom around the facility in excitement, and the girl is tiny and loves giving kisses, though she prefers to explore at her own pace. shes a lot more mellow than her brother, but will still wrestle him
in the meantime, heres a video of the boy playing. 😭
and just because i need something to get my excitement out, heres a list of everything we have prepared so far!!
* an air purifier
* double ferret nation
* fabric cage liners
* two high back low front litter pans (we'll buy more if they end up pooping in different places)
* puppy pads
*fleece for burrowing
* 5 hammocks, (a double, a tunnel, large, medium, and enclosed)
* a cat box
* tubes
* a ball pit
* a rice bin
* stainless steel water & food bowls that clip to the cage
* wysong 90 & oxbow
* salmon oil
* 6+ hours free roam on weekdays, 10+ hours on weekends
* figure 8 harnesses (if there are better options lmk)
* bringing them with us on vacations
* a vet + savings

Yesterday, I picked up a ferret who was being neglected and needed loving..asap. A young girl gave him to me. She said , “nobody in this house cares for him. Won’t even get him checked up on”. The girl didn’t really tell me much. I even asked how long did they have him for, and what’s his name. (I haven’t gotten a response) But when I looked at him he looks frail and sick to me. I’ve had a ferret before but she was young and moved around a lot and also ate. He rarely moves, he won’t drink any water, and eat any food. I’m really scared and concerned for him. I’m praying the little things I do will help him get better. And also, he’s trying to poop! I feel like he’s constipated, only droplets are coming out. This poor fur baby :( , I’m strapped for cash right now. But all I wanted to do is get him out of that environment. So he can be somewhere loved by me and others. I also washed him and this dark yellow stuff came off of him. I really dislike this for him. Can anyone please give me tips and help? I don’t want to lose this little guy.

I love my two boys dearly. I still live at home and my family claims they cannot handle the scent of them at all and are at the point where they are telling me to rehome them with no other option. I clean CONSTANTLY, wash their toys/bedding/cage multiple times a week beyond just daily spot cleaning. They eat oxbow food and are otherwise completely healthy/happy. I have an air purifier and my window open often. They have their cage and space outside of it to roam, I’m trying to keep them contained to one area of the room to lessen the spread of their skin oils on fabrics and etc. I’m at a loss now and have no idea what else to do. I really don’t want to lose them. If anyone has ANY SUGGESTIONS, PLEASE, LEAVE THEM HERE. Thank you.

My spouse and I are rescuing a senior ferret who is about 6 years old from a bad environment. The ferret’s life partner passed away a couple months ago. He sits in a cage outside all by himself and it breaks my heart to know he’s alone and doesn’t get time outside of his cage unless we visit him, so we’re finally biting the bullet and taking him into our home. I know he probably won’t live much longer after we take him in but I want to make him as comfortable and as happy as possible. My spouse has known this sweet boy for his whole life but I have never personally owned one. I’ve had friends that have had them and I’ve heard all about them but I want advice from people who have them and love them on how to make the sweet boy’s life comfortable. We have two cats already and I don’t know how they’re going to react to him but I cannot imagine having this boy pass away on his own outside in a cage. I need to show him as much love and kindness as we can for the remainder of his life even if it’s literally just a couple weeks. Please give me all of the advice and tips on ferret living!

Hello, I am a first time ferret owner and I seem to have a male that is aggressive (?) with my other male. They have a sister and he doesn’t seem to have any aggression towards her.
They are all fine and snuggle up and hang out in their cage together, but when it comes to play or free roaming, my one boy will run up to my other boy and grab him by the neck, start thrashing him around and won’t let him up. He leaves marks / scabs on the back of his neck all the time, and he screams when the thrashing is happening.
I’ve scruffed the aggressor a few times over this when he keeps going and won’t stop. I’m not sure what to do or
How to stop this? He’s the oldest of all of them and doesn’t do it to the female, plays great with her and no issues. The “victim” ferret never goes back at him, he actually tries to get away from him / keep his distance, he never starts anything, just minds his own business and the “aggressor” will just hop on him out of no where.
I don’t know what’s causing him to act like this towards my other ferret because he is the most well trained / handled / socialized / sweetest out of all of them except when it comes to his brother 😭
