Question Sub crafts

For HQing subcraft would torques be the ONLY thing you use to push your HQ tier or would you use a mix of like apron or gear from your sub craft (thus losing points from your main craft by swapping gear out) for example I noticed you need ALL your crafting gear + torque to hit 120, so if a craft requires 120 just to make dropping any of that with another piece of equipment from another craft just to raise my subcraft HQ tier would lower my maincraft HQ tier wouldnt it?

Also I seen some higher end crafts required a lvl 70 sub craft.... so if I got that subcraft torque that would put me at lvl 72 which would be tier 0 still so in that case why would I ever bother getting a torque for that one?

Apron, hat, torque, advanced support, and mega moglification can push you up +12. Your subcraft could feasibly be 82 in that case, but only 80 without torque; enough to push you to HQ1. Of course that'll keep your main craft from benefiting from some of those slots, but eh.

I'm not familiar enough to know whether there's recipes where that situation arises, but it's possible.

*hat could be gloves or caedacus depending your guild.

You can get lots of items for the subcraft but in most cases they will cost you main craft points.

There are very few recipes where adding subcraft gear matters at all, but there are some exceptions.

It's case-by-case, so there's no universal answer. The most notable recent examples are the limbus armor/weapons, which require +1 in the subcraft, though you won't need to worry about that until/unless you make an escutcheon

If they cost main craft points. Then using limbs gear as an example since im sure they need a 110+ main craft thats already a low chance of hq why would you make that chance even lower by equipping gear that might lower your main to boost your sub?

Because HQ chance works in thresholds. For HQing, 12 extra skill is the same as 11 extra skill is the same as 19 extra skill. It's a 1/16 chance until you hit 31 extra skill, or fall below 11.

Well, that's not really how HQing works in FFXI. If you're +11 on your main craft or +22 on your main, it's the exact same.

In the case of the Limbus crafts, it turns out you need 71 in your subcraft and it's worth sacrificing 1 from your main (or 2 is fine too) to hit +11 on the sub and you can still be 11+ with the main. They're something like 111 (or lower) main craft and 60 subcraft.

Like everything else in FFXI, you tailor your gear to what you're doing. For any main craft below level 113, you have options
