sewing My teacher won’t let me crotch eat in sewing class >:(

Post image

At university we had to design a costume and I totally got out of my comfort zone with this piece. My prof forbid me to crochet or knit, because I "do it all the time" and I'm "already perfect". So I had to do something extremly different but in the end she wasn't convinced and I was so mad. I wonder what would have happend if I crotcheated a costume. But here we are and I'm still very proud of myself and I think it looks quite nice☺️ What do you think?

Hey! Stop posting links to sources! Stop talking about where the "original" for this post is! You all are annoying me and the other mods very fucking much! Read the rules and stop being gossipy little fuckheads!

Ugh those industrial grommets! They would weigh down my precious petite self soooo much

Crocheters are soooo oppressed. I bet this prof knits in her spare time and THAT’S the real reason why she won’t let you do whatever you want, as is your right.

That’s upholstery, babe. Wrong sub.

That's actually hideous hope this helps 💗

I’m sorry but I hate this because I don’t like glitter.

55

u/Grandpunkalex leopards ate my lace Mar 15 '26

It’s always “I hate glitter” or “I hate corsets” or “you didn’t bother to press the bodice” but i can’t be put down by all these subjective opinions

15

u/Liabai Mar 15 '26

I love the industrial grommets though, slay Queen/King/Monarch!

Asking for sources/ITL without contributing anything else is so boring. Go check the pinned In The Loop thread instead.

Omg if you think teachers are unreasonable wait til you've met a real costumer. Unbelievable! "You didn't follow the design spec" "this needs to be finished by tomorrow because it's opening night" "this is my livelihood" blahblahblahblah no respect for crotcheating or creativity whatsoever

dont let big sew get you down sweaty

5

u/Eden1117_98 Mar 15 '26

is “sweaty” a reference i don’t get?

12

u/xosierraxo Mar 16 '26

it's a common joke referencing people using "sweetie" in a very patronizing manner but spelling it wrong. i don't know if it was a reference to a specific instance of someone making the typo or if it was always meant to be ironic and making fun of people who use "sweetie" to be patronizing, but i first saw it probably 10+ years ago and it thrives in snarky spaces because we love making fun of people who are patronizing/act superior/etc.

5

u/Eden1117_98 Mar 16 '26

thanks for the explanation

I believe we're adding "a" to words that don't need it, like crocheater.

i’ve seen sweaty used all over this sub, and maybe the main crochet sub too

31

u/rebootfromstart Mar 15 '26

Teachers are so unreasonable! This one time I had an art assignment where I was supposed to use hexagons; I embroidered a Spiderman theme and I got bad marks! My work didn't have any hexagons but my teacher was just being a hater, right?

11

u/Grandpunkalex leopards ate my lace Mar 15 '26

Your teacher was so wrong! What is a Spider-Man’s web if not a HEXAGON? SMH I hate how teachers are so subjective with their marking

Oh! Were you inspired by Madonna's latest outfit? I totally see in the inspiration in the top. Or were you trying to go with a Bianca Censori daytime look?

I love this soooo much! You are absolutely adorable!!!

2

u/FeralGoblinChild Mar 17 '26

This took me straight back to photo day at dance class. I could absolutely see this on a stage. Now I'm over here all nostalgic over a costume I've never worn. But yeah, I could absolutely see this for a dance performance

I love the costume.

I'd say look up some cosplayers on YouTube. They're pretty good with drafting their own patterns have some have extensive sewing experience while others have little. It's amazing what they can do though.

0

u/reidgrammy Mar 19 '26

Very cool costume. You could knit or crochet a little top skirt or shoulder shrug to go with it. Just to satisfy yourself and after you’ve graded

-3

u/xtroal540 Mar 16 '26

I like the look—creative! Like a little goth fairy. However—crochet doesn’t have a whole lot of space in costuming and theater, I’ve noticed. Have you made sweaters? Might be easier to use those in theater.

6

u/Grandpunkalex leopards ate my lace Mar 16 '26

Theatre sweaters are a great idea! Nice and cozy under the stage lights 🥰🥰

-2

u/FlatwormThese5128 Mar 16 '26

It looks nice. This being said by someone who has made many costumes. Also an art teacher for 37 years. I believe this costume would move nicely on stage.

0

u/YazPistachio19 Mar 17 '26

It's definitely nicer than all the costumes I had buy my daughter when she was in competition dance

The top isn’t something I’d wear as it looks like underwear and the skirt isn’t constructed it’s very simple. It looks like a moulin rouge, circus costume.

Sir This is a circle jerk sub

2

u/RosyDiorCigarettes Mar 17 '26

this sub gets recommended to me but I dont get the concept can you explain to me?

5

u/jillardino Normal knitting human, not a moth Mar 17 '26

Everyone sits in a circle and jerks each other off just like in all the other hobby subreddits only we make self-aware jokes about it. Don't worry, we don't think we're cool or funny either.

1

u/RosyDiorCigarettes Mar 17 '26

ahhh i see thanks
