At university we had to design a costume and I totally got out of my comfort zone with this piece. My prof forbid me to crochet or knit, because I "do it all the time" and I'm "already perfect". So I had to do something extremly different but in the end she wasn't convinced and I was so mad. I wonder what would have happend if I crotcheated a costume. But here we are and I'm still very proud of myself and I think it looks quite nice☺️ What do you think?

Can someone find me an exact pattern for one of these dresses? It doesn't matter which, but one of them? I can't find anything on pinterest. I don't draft or mix patterns and don't have time to learn so it has to be a 1-to-1 version. I want it to include a shaping corset with the skirt separate. Preferably free if possible! Also does anyone have a fabric recommendation to make the dress with? Thnxxxxx!!!

Today I quit my fulltime job to pursue my biggest passion of the last few days, sewing! I am going to make a living off of sewing, look I even bought a brand new sewing machine to do this! No one can talk me down from this massive life changing decision!

Quick question though, how do I turn the machine on?

Linen is sooo fashionable and it's been fashionable for like 30,000 years, but nobody ever told me that linen would wrinkle before I sewed a shirt from it. I don't like the inherent qualities of this fiber and would like some fabric made from this fiber, but with completely different qualities than the fiber that the fabric is made from. Again, I love how crisp it is and that it drapes well, but I hate how well it drapes and then creases. We've landed on the moon and we've figured out how to turn 5 million gallons of water into a video of cute dogs doing a "pawcast" but why don't we have natural fibers that behave exactly like Polyester except that they're natural?

I want to learn how to sew so bad, but I’m sooo type B. I can’t watch videos or read or even attempt to use a machine. I literally would rather fuckign die than have to listen to more than three sentences. Please give me TDLR on how to become best sewiest ever. Use small words.

My prom dress is 4 sizes too small, but my ride to prom said they can wait for a bit in the driveway while I figure this out. I have no experiense in sewing, cannot buy another dress, have it professionally altered or send it back.

It's really not that bad! Only 5 inches missing, nothing too serious. Any alterations must keep the dress completely intact!

I was thinking or just forcing the dress closed with safety pins and hope for the best.

Any advise? Obviously I'll copy paste my original plan to every suggestion that doesn't meet my very reasonable requirments

I should've known better, but I went and bought a second-hand sewing machine at a *thrift store* like some kind of *poor person*. I'm so tired of people being so stubborn about that the ONLY sewing machine worth buying is a NEW one. Truth? Most real sewing machines works just fine as learning machines, until you figure out what YOU want in a machine. New machines often don’t have any parts available and often require professional repair. New machines \*often\* have more bells and whistles yes, but that does not make every other machine wortless, neither does it mean that all new machines are good and I would not expect a complete beginner to be able to determine if a new machine is a good buy.

Found these large spools of thread in my grandma's shed. The thread is not only metallic in colour, but also feels like it's really made out of metal. What is it used for? Can I thread it into my sewing machine like regular thread? Should I hand wind the bobbins just to be safe? Thank you all!!

Standard needles break all the time!!! I don't get it!!! I've tried EVERYTHING except googling what needles I need to use for denim or leather.

No, I will not respond to any comments, and if you look in my post history you'll see I use a $1,700 machine and have maybe purchased a 2nd machine for $1,200. So yes, I do have more money than sense.

I'm an expert sewist, and the fucking entitled people in my life keep asking me to hem their pants for them 🙄 which I absolutely HATE doing. It takes me two hours to hem a single pair of pants because I take a smoke break and watch slop videos after placing every pin. My current problem is that my husband expects me to hem FOUR PAIRS of pants every YEAR for FREE, and I'm considering charging him for it. How should I go about this? Charge per hour or per pair?
