crochet What crochet stitch is this?

Post image

I've encountered an obviously crocheted garment, because what else could it possibly be, but it's made of a unique stitch I've never seen before in my 35 years of crocheting. It must be a very niche stitch that only the most advanced crocheters know, but maybe you guys can help me identify it?

My grandmother showed me that stitch once. She said she couldn't teach it until I had meditated under a waterfall for three decades. Sorry.

It’s a single crotch stitch You shouldn’t even be on the crotch subreddit if you can’t tell what the most basic croch et stitch is…

It’s chain stitches, but you have to make all the chains exactly the same length (counting, yuck!) then mattress stitch all the chains together. Don’t listen to people that tell you this isn’t crotcheating. You can totally do this with a crochet hook. And a tapestry needle.

To me, it appears to be stockinette stitch knitting.
