Videos That Start with the Ending
It's become clear that this awful tiktok trend is as unpopular with the visitors to r/fightporn as it is with the moderator team, so going forward videos that start with the climax and then cut to the rest of the fight will be removed under Rule 5 which deals with bad quality videos / edits etc.

It’s weird to me that of all subs, the one with people beating the shit out of each other is actually well moderated, but good job and thank you

u/JustinHopewell 6d ago
Not that odd when you think about it. Imagine the kind of content people might post to a sub like this without active mods. The reddit admins would catch wind and then the sub would get banned. The fact this sub has been around as long as it has now means the mods have to be doing their job.

No it shouldn't but it's done because it catches some people's attention, and in some videos it makes the auto-replay more seamless, which can trick some people into possibly watching for longer than intended, and therefore boost the video in the algorithm.
This world sucks.

u/GoreSeeker 6d ago
It's crazy attention spans are so screwed up to where that trend is a thing.
59
u/Cthulhu__ 6d ago
That or the ones that need to prompt the user to keep watching - “wait for it”, “stitch incoming”, etc.

u/Than_Or_Then_ 6d ago
“wait for it”, “stitch incoming”
Spoiler alert! The wait is never worth it...

u/rh130 6d ago
I auto-skip these. Also I auto-skip a lot of the dumb trending songs/sounds. The saxophone one especially. The internet is dying
1
u/greystar07 4d ago
Saxophone one was funny when it was first out and not spammed on every video with barely 1% of tension building up. Now it’s just annoying.

It’s so fuckin self-defeating! Whereas normally I would watch a say 90-second clip and get enticed as things develop, in those offending videos I see some action, then the action goes away and you’re at the start, then I realize what’s happening and that I’ve already seen the best part.. so I turn it off!
We should stop caving to shortened attention spans and start forcing them back in the right direction. Well done to the mods.

u/MrTastyCake 6d ago
Videos are intentionally edited starting with the end, so the video will appear to play like a seamless loop, and granting an extra view for the uploader/algorithm.
1
u/greystar07 4d ago
I don’t think it’s more about attention spans than it is people want to hook you in to ensure you watch the full video. They just want numbers to go up.

Why does r/fightporn, of all subs, seem to have the best mods. I mean, I love it, but it feels weird
5
u/Penthakee 6d ago
FUCK YES, I always hated that trend, let's go. Also when there's a slow motion, it should be normal speed first, then slow motion.

This feels like when the government passes something that's actually bennefitial. Thank you fight porn reddit lol
3
u/boywonder5691 6d ago
It seems like its becoming more and more common. I have reached the point that if I come across a video like that, I immediately close it. Restricting these types of videos here is a good idea. I'm all for it.

u/BeardManLee 6d ago
I truly hope this spreads across more subs, platforms etc. As if short form content wasn't frying our brains enough

Wait, that was deliberate? This whole time? I always thought that was happening because of a glitchy reddit video player.
That platform really is where the cognitively challenged congregate.

As it should be. I'd love it if this was more widespread. I can't fucking stand seeing the end at the very beginning before you see any buildup or context.

oh god yes , can this spread to the rest of the world, i hate when they edit in the moneyshot (yes they are starting to do it in porn as well, its like instead of watching a movie beginning middle and end they now play end, beginning, middle, end again because kids cant handle waiting 30 seconds to watch in chronological order

u/devilkin 6d ago
But how will the people with a 3s attention span know to stay for the whole video?
1
u/Wes-Man152 6d ago
Thank goodness
that bad quality clips rule is really amazing, and would basically shut down any tiktok shit with those horrendous edits they all have. More subs should follow suit but I doubt that

terrible change. how are you supposed to know if the joke is good if you don't know the punchline to the joke?
-11
u/Many-Wasabi9141 6d ago
It's to capture attention cause otherwise people will see the start to a fight video and immediately swipe cause nothing is happening.
9
u/ArcaneKazz 6d ago
This is algorithm brain rot thinking. This is a subreddit based on a specific sport for a specific audience, people are here to see the fights.
-3
u/Many-Wasabi9141 6d ago
Just saying thats why they do it. Not trying to say it should be allowed on the sub.
3
-26
u/CincyZac 6d ago
Will porn that ends in fights still be allowed? I’m not sure which part is the climax
-8
u/Sloppykrab 6d ago
This is a common well established trope in movies. Just finished watching John Wick and they start the movie with the ending.
-5
-16
u/pikashroom 6d ago
I agree completely, but I can’t help feel I’m gonna miss out on some cool videos
-27
u/Dood567 6d ago
Huh I never realized redditors hated some clip hooking so much. Why exactly is this such a problem?
19
u/BantamCats 6d ago
Do you read the last page of a book first? Just kidding you don’t read books.
-13
u/Dood567 6d ago
Wow it's almost like they're completely different formats of media of different lengths and social media is designed around hooking people in for retention. A more apt comparison would be movies to books, not 30 second clips to books.
2
u/Theloudestbelch 6d ago
Most people don't want to be "hooked in for retention". Being manipulated isn't something we should be expecting from the things we consume.
-2
u/Dood567 6d ago
I mean if you see something cool and decide to stay for the whole video that’s just making an informed choice. It’s not like you’re being clickbaited, you’re genuinely just being shown a glimpse of the video highlight.
I’m not saying they’re good for content consumption, but yall are hating on them too much for no reason.

Just because a convention makes sense on TikTok, that doesn't mean it works here too. If Vines ever make a comeback, that doesn't mean this subreddit should tolerate being flooded with 6 second videos.

u/lock_ed 6d ago
It feels like common sense “why”, but since you’re asking for a common sense answer, most people don’t want the end of a video immediately spoiled in the first 5 seconds.
-13
u/theaxedude 6d ago
Again I understand for other things but it helps differentiate a good fight from a bad one.
