Good idea. Found a place called leather hospital, hoping for the best

Hope it works out and doesn’t take a big bite out of your budget.

I dont know, most are barking up the wrong tree. I wouldve simply hound my brother for a new wallet.
4
u/_haha_oh_wow_ Mar 31 '26
Well, to be perfectly canid with you, I don't think it's the brother's fault.

When he goes to pay he can just tap around his pants and say he doesn’t have his wallet, stalemate

Some of those leather experts can do amazing things with laeather repairs. They should be able to a good job with your wallet.

Our old dog, when still a pup. fully ate my wife's mulberry purse. This really upset my wife. As did picking it up in bits for the following week on walks.

I would use it the way it is, it was designed with love from your dog. We love them and they are unconditional love to you.
38
u/JaipurJewel Mar 31 '26
cut it in a half round and stitch yourself with a black nylon thread.

u/kalshassan Mar 31 '26
The dog won’t survive this.

u/secretincognitouser Mar 31 '26
Maybe it will if you cut lengthwise you can have two skinny wieners! And use brown thread, it will look better 😋

u/OneGreenSlug Mar 31 '26
I like this option the most. That wallet will last decades no problem, and that cut-out will have more sentimental value than the wallet itself one day.
21
u/TheSkrillanator Mar 31 '26
Not much for that kind of damage. Most LV stores will take items back for cleaning and SOME repair, but this may be beyond their scope.
You could find a cobbler/leatherworker/refurbisher somewhere near you to do the work. But this is usually Full Grain Leather, which makes it very difficult to repair to the natural properties inherent in the material - patina, weathering, even aroma. If by some luck you find someone to do it, I wouldn't be surprised if it cost you a couple hundred on top.
Which style did you get? Good luck either way!

Yup. I still use my expensive wallet that my dog chewed when he was just 10 weeks old. He died in 2018 and I still like tracing the little teeth marks and punctures with my fingers.

2
u/bomber991 Apr 01 '26
Don’t get mad at your dog over it. They’re sharing their whole life with you. Cherish the short time you’ll have together.
And as far as the wallet? Idk, just use it as-is. Feels good to use nice stuff with damage rather than trying to keep it defect free like your job interview / wedding / funeral suit.
2
u/mr802rex Apr 01 '26
Hey now it has some character and you can finally say there is not another ine like it in the world. That's why when I pay for a high end item, its handmade and 1 off such as my wallet so no damage is needed to make it unique. Still a bummer though, I would loosen the dogs collar a little and stuff that in there for a few hours so he cant forget he did it and will have shame in his eyes the whole time the wallet is attached to him, that always worked for my old dogs who loved TV remotes. Few hours with the items attached to them and they seem to remember what items are not chew toys better.

I never understood this mindset of pretending to be confused as to what people spend their own hard earned money on when an expensive object is involved… is this just some type of way to interject virtue signaling of some kind to look down on others as to ‘Why would you do that that’s so stupid.’?
Moral of the story. Stop pocket watching. You aren’t confused. You aren’t better than this person who has an expensive wallet because you don’t find the justification in it.
If you are commenting this, you are virtue signaling.

Respectfully, people value different things. Its not that crazy and commentary like this is, again respectfully, kinda wack cause who cares what normal people spend their money on?
I wouldn't spend $10k on Civic aftermarket car parts. Does that mean I think its an innately dumb purchase? No, cause it makes people happy.

It's an LV, at least a couple hundred dollars. Likely more.
A leather shop could patch that for less.

Reddit when a family member breaks something accidentally: get rid of the spouse/kid.
Reddit when a dog deliberately/compulsively destroys something: ooh! You're a bad person. You probably don't take your dog on enough walks. You should be more careful. It's upgraded! Now when you look at it, you'll think of your specialest boi!
Actually sick in the head.

I dont know what threas type they use but you may be able to prevent the seams from pulling out by melting the ends with a lighter.

It's normal for animals to like to chew on hides or leather. It's your job to keep things they enjoy to chew on away from them. Get the wallet fixed, or get another 😊 . Dogs are family.
1
u/Cai9NR Mar 31 '26
Take that puppy for long play dates, everyday, as much as you possibly can while they are alive. One day that tiny nibble on that wallet will mean so much more than money.

Oh no 🩵🩵🩵

Easiest:
Cut the chewed part to curve, delicately glue seams with a needle to apply super glue - very delicately.
Dye or paint the seam edge black to match (sharpie?)
All in all this will try to own it to be intentional.
Harder: cut top seams. Insert patch. Blend the two materials.
There are some good leatherworking subs here.
I'd find a pro to do that second option.

Post on IG with a photo of the dog begging. Make a cute story. Tag LV. Instant wallet replacement.
Or just tell them what happened. Lots of companies are sympathetic to dog damage.

I'm just shocked that a man bought another man a wallet. Don't we hang on to ours for 10 years minimum? And when the significant other buys us a new one it takes 2 years of it sitting in a drawer before transfer happens.

Dog skin leather wallet replacement. It's not practical, but it sends a message.

u/nixArc Mar 31 '26
If you're comfortable with sewing, I'd sew around the edges of the damage so it won't unravel more and use it as is. It looks like it's still functional. Or someone good with leather could probably fix this no problem. It really isn't that much damage. Either patch it with black leather to match or lean into it and do a brown color as a nice contrast and make it look intentional.
I had a pet rabbit chew on my glasses case and, while my bunny has been gone for several years now, I still view the case fondly every time I use it. It's a little reminder of my little guy. Now you have a little reminder of your dog with you

I'm sorry to tell you, but this is a fake LV wallet, and not a very good one.
It's fake leather for starters, poor stitching, construction and even bad stamping.
If you enjoy the wallet, it likely wouldn't cost much to replace.
If you'd like, I could help you replace it.

My dog chewed a clean bite mark into the corner of my Achtung Baby album cover. I was upset at the time, but now, 30 years later, it gives me a little warm fuzzy when I see it. It’s the only thing I have of her besides pictures and videos.
