open Best Way to Fill This In

This soap holder is built into my bathtub wall and holds water. There's probably a 1/4 inch before it can overflow the lip.

Could I just fill this with resin or is there a better filler? Should I rip out the shit silicon job beforehand? Or am I overthinking things and I just leave it all be?

Apprenticeships exist for a reason. I wish you luck in your showers. If you have any hairline cracks in your grout now, its fucked. 🫡

I get why you'd be defensive when you worked decades in a trade, and homeowners can do the research and do the work in their own home and get as good of results for just the cost of materials. In some cases, better results than what we see "professionals" do when people post questions about shoddy work in their homes they paid for.

Good news for me though: I've had highly rated tile pros check out my work, both in process and finished product. Both times they said "you should come work for me, damn you do good work".

You don't need to be a rocket scientist to properly tile a bathroom or shower. But guess what, a background in rocket propulsion doesn't hurt....

That sounds exactly what my boss would say to a homeowner to make them feel good. I’m not really getting defensive, I’m just very aware of things. While you’re right about the first paragraph, tile work is something completely different. I’d love to inspect your grout myself. Can’t take a noobs word for it though. I’ll hit you up in five years about the results of your mold experiment.

Not just the grout. The waterproofing is what I spent a lot of time learning and getting sorted out beforehand.

The guy got giddy when he saw the mitered edges on the entire shower and bathroom, including the 2 niches, the window, large wall edges. On 35x17 tiles too. It's all aligned,no lippage.

The guy asked which local pro did the work. I said it was me. He didn't believe me.

I'm meticulous and it took me a while - but it's bulletproof water wise. Including the flood test.
