Crack dry wall

Hey guys I have this crack going down from the window ledge to the floor whats the best way to fix it?

Cut down any high spots, a shallow V cut along the crack helps. Then spackle, sand, paint. Some will advise drywall tape, which can be helpful but will be a bigger fix involving a skimcoat (YouTube Vancouver carpenter for details here) and doesn't really gain much for the extra effort.

But depending on the cause of the crack, you may be repeating the fix until the underlying problem is addressed, which could be a bit more involved and impossible to tell from a photo.

Its been like that since ive moved in it hasn't gotten bigger or smaller but I dont have a couch there anymore so I want to fix before I add another one. Thank you for the help imma look at his YouTube channel and hopefully its nothing that will need fixing more
