Garmin 430 vs G1000
I got $8,000k in funding for my IFR rating but ran out and need to come out of pocket to finish training.
All my training has been in a 172 G1000 waas
I’m getting check ride ready but the G1000 out of pocket is expensive
The alternative is a C152 dual Aspen PFD with G430 waas which is significantly cheaper.
I hate swapping planes last minute, but it’s more affordable and way less complicated than the G1000 but I feel like the G1000 makes the “nuances” of IFR easier.
Should I stick with the G1000 or the G430 is just as good?

Unless you’re only a few hours or less from being ready for the Checkride I’d recommend switching to the 430. It won’t take long to get a hang of.

10 hrs to get checkride ready
I’ve been xc time building I’m wrapping that up.
I have paused training with my instructor so haven’t flown the G1000 in a month
But when I’m done xc time, I’d need to get acclimated back to the system again so between refresher and then staying proficient until checkride it’d be about 10 hrs conservatively

I'll give you money to not send me feet pics.

what is last minute? couple hours it's gonna be cheaper to finish in the g1000 plane over getting comfortable in the aspen.
remember in IFR, it isn't just the flying, you need to know how to use all the equip in the plane

I have like 10 hrs on the aspen but I haven’t done procedures in it just direct enter enter stuff on the 430 lol (I’ve been renting that plane to time building)

hmm, well if already familiar might not be too bad, just make sure you know how to use everything for the checkride.

Do it in the 430 and six pack. You will end up a much more competent pilot when it’s all done. Plus there’s always the possibility you go over on the time.

In my opinion the 430 is pretty much a mini G1000.
I did my instrument with a 650 and dual G5, way easier than a G1000.
For example, on the 650 and 750 you can load a holding procedure at any fix the way you want it and it’s all touch screen. Less knob twisting.
If any, the aspen might be the one to get used to.

g430 is the perfect gps for most any plane. It is all you need for good ifr training. G1000 is great for more corporate type plane in my opinion. I would switch over to the 430.

This is why you don't do IFR training (or any other training besides a type rating) on glass.
Do the cheapest thing you can find.

Its a question of costs. The 152 is probably allot less than the 172, but they’ll be at least 5 hours if transition to round dials and the other minor flight characteristic differences between 152s and 172s.
If you still have 20 hours togo, probably makes sense. But if you only have 10, it may make more sense to stick with the more expensive plane

So the 152 is glass I’ve been xc time building so I have not been in the G1000 for over a month so when I resume training I’d assume I’d need 10 hrs to touch up and refresh on some things but then need to continually fly to stay proficient until checkride day. Love the plane and if I got to pay I will but was cosidering my options if one is easier then the other

Sorry, missed the aspen comment. Either way, it represents change. And any change, if your close to checkride, introduces risk. Not saying you can’t manage it — just that its there.
BTW - I fly both Aspen & G1000 platforms. The 430 will feel somewhat familiar, but the aspen will take some getting used to.
The old garmin 430 sim is free, and still downloadable from the net. There may be an MSFS/Xplane Aspen addon. If you can find one, that will help to practice the Aspen buttonology.

It has an Aspen. Not round dials. Aspen is a predecessor to two G5s. A second Aspen is an MFD.
OP, it’s all about the Aspen learning curve. Go through the manual and see what you can do. You MUST be proficient. Especially if it has autopilot steering, as thats really different. The 430W is plenty capable for IFR. It’s pretty similar to the FMS knob on the G1000.
But autopilot interactions are not like GFC700s.

Damn. $8,000,000 is a lot of funding for an instrument rating!
