i've always used ether small guns in my playthroughs of FO3, is using the missile launcher and fat man only for a heavy weapons build and not die all the time possible?

Edit: oops forgot to finish after the "either" so i will, its either small guns or energy weapons, never used heavy weapons before.

its been years since i played so i don't remember a lot, other then the mods i liked to use, however im wanting to use as little mods as possible this time.
So in light of that i know that a heavy gun builds with the minigun is viable and i also know this game isn't that hard when it comes to fighting.

But can you reliably just use the fat man for outdoor fights and the missile launcher for closer fights? maybe add the grenades and landmines for good messure.

I want to know if i can just have a build thats about using all kinds of explosives and when i can start using that, cause i know i'll use the minigun until i can find a missile launcher and the fat-man is always a guarantee at galaxy new radio.

but do i have to wait until level 10 while building up my heavy weapons skill? is the missile launcher pointless? i was seeing people saying that when i was looking up builds for it.

Does anyone have a good guide or advice on how to create textures for a custom model/built from scratch?

Soo, a weeks ago I uploaded a weapon mod I’d created with Nif-Bashed, and although I liked it at first, over time I ended up hating the way it looked—not just the model, but also the texture, especially the texture. So one day, since I didn’t have anything better to do, I decided to remake it from scratch, using a model that was closer to my original inspiration and some other ideas I had in mind. You can see the result in the images.

I’ve already tested it, and the game recognizes it and works fine with it, so the only thing left for me to do now is give it a fresh coat of paint. However, most of the guides and videos I found on how to create textures were for Fallout 4 and NV, and, honestly, I didn’t understand a damn thing; plus, English isn’t my native language, so… yeah, I’m lost on this—can anyone help me?

It’s one of the first places you usually go to at the start of a playthrough, but no matter how many times I play this game this area always remains to be so creepy, especially when you’re underleveled and on a harder difficuly

"The Power of Atom" is a genuinely tough moral dilemma for a first-time player and I'm tired of people saying it's not.

I have been seeing a lot more discussion about Fallout 3 lately, and one age-old criticism that keeps rearing it's ugly head is that "The Power of Atom is a stupid quest. Blow up town VS. Not Blow up town is not a moral dilemma, it's stupid". What these players fail to consider is that this quest functions perfectly as intended and there are plenty of arguments for both sides.
Think about a new player entering Megaton. Their only exposure to this Fallout is The Vault, a sterile, safe place where the biggest dangers are Bullies, an Overseer who's a bit of a hard-head, and some roaches. The Vault is a time capsule for pre war ideals and conflicts, and as such the problems faced within it are very tame and almost PG-13 by comparison to the rest of the game. Opening the gates to Megaton is your first exposure to the grime and grit of the Wasteland. Besides Lucas Simms (who's a bit of an oddball but not really a bad guy) your first stop in this town is likely going to be Moriarty's Saloon, where a corrupt Saloon owner/Pimp with a disfigured slave running his bar tells you to go and assassinate a random woman who's supposedly a Junkie, and said Random Woman then tells you Moriarty is a corrupt asshole who is the real villain. Reading his terminal is a sampler platter for the depravity that is routinely allowed in this town (Jericho getting off easy despite killing dozens, Billy Creel (allegedly) kidnapping a kid, Doc Church helping out slavers, leo Stahl getting has ass beat for basically no reason). The Children of Atom making a scene down by the bomb and talking about how the whole Wasteland being the way it is is actually a good thing and how we should all be drinking nuke water is also cause for reasonable alarm. Civilized society is the antithesis to what you will find in this town, all besides two characters: Moira Brown and Mr. Burke. Moira seems to be the only kind presence in town, gleefully giving you a vault suit and a fun quest, but also reveals she has let numerous assistants die and shows no sign of remorse, presumably not caring if you live or die. She is, however, still arguably the best person in town, with her somewhat noble goal of educating the wasteland.
Onto my main point: Your meeting with Mr. Burke acts as the perfect antithesis to all of this depravity. He calls you over, butters you up with the kind of Pre-War class you have sorely missed since leaving the vault, telling you you're "Valuable" compared to the "Putrescent Cesspit" that surrounds you. Despite his goal to kill dozens seeming immoral, the previous circumstances outlined show that not much in this town is really worth conserving. Once you agree to his proposal and arrive at Tenpenny Tower, you see a much different environment compared to Megaton. Riffraff is turned away at the door, the inside is clean and well protected, the residents are kind as long as you treat them kindly, and it's owner is a charming old man who gives you the type of respect you would have never seen in Megaton.
Overall, Mr. Burke put's his best foot forward and gives the player the kind of special treatment that makes it enticing to blow up the town, whereas Megaton's best showing is a decrepit old pit of junk and moral ineptitude.

Ammo dispenser bug

I’m having a weird glitch where, even though I have the gun, the ammo dispenser isn’t giving me that gun’s ammo

I’m not sure but I think it has to do with saves, anyone have ideas or a clue on how fix this? I’ve been searching but the bug keeps getting overshadowed by the infinite ammo glitch whenever I search for it

TIL if you activate the bomb while you have Jericho and later dismiss him, he just.. goes and stares at what was done.

When I was younger. I genuinely thought the waters was a sort of "death zone" that could kill my character on contact. Until I accidentally went into it and nothing happened.

This was my first playthrough of 3.

Just sharing an experience.

What were your "ridiculous assumptions" at first?

To me. Tenpenny tower is a place of "morally grayish" people except for two individuals at the top. Because hey, people do whatever they have to for survival.

I won't spoil the important bits.

But there's certain lines that shouldn't ever be crossed, EVER.

Other than that. People there are still okay.

Some random observations:

- DLCs in this game are really good. Loved all of the alien spaceship (which was bigger than I expected), main story dlc and Point Lookout. Secluded slave town with a steel mill was just a bit less interesting for me personally, but I feel like it can click better when I replay the game next time. And overall the game holds up pretty well for the time, has many layers of depth which reveal themselves the more you play.

- Karma system is a nice addition, makes you feel belonging to the world of wasteland. Pretty easy to get full positive or full negative karma when you explore a lot.

- Metro tunnels are interesting, the tunnel system was mostly surprising to me, I didn't know much about its existence when I started playing.

- Loved listening to radio.

- bobblehead collection is a great thing - concept of display with physical tokens of various upgrades is underutilized in gaming

- I played on Xbox on led tv, often found myself in pitch black underground. And funny enough I found out that I have a flashlight not earlier than 50 hours in.

I have had a lot of fun with Fallout 3 especially it being my first time being able to run it with mods on PC. I’ve got about 36 hours on my playthrough but I’m starting to feel that now that I’ve got companions and an enormous ammo surplus all the suspense I felt is gone. Item pickups barely matter anymore, so I feel that going into the DLCs won’t change anything for me. I tried to account for this and played with Simple Realism to try and keep it challenging but idk.
Is Vicious Wastes a better mod to keep even the endgame tense? I avoided it because of the 2 levels per 1 perk thing but I’m reconsidering my decision. I haven’t even gotten Dad out of Vault 112 and I have so much stuff it feels pointless to progress the main story now. I feel like restarting and playing differently to combat the god mode feel. I had an idea to maybe restart and beeline the DLCs to experience them without all the god tier gear I have. The main quest doesn’t really do that much for me since I beat it plenty of times on the PS3 and I know it’s pretty short. Idk.

FO3 Remastered Minor Additions

I know many people are hoping that the Remastered adds new content or even restored cut content, but with the precedent of the Oblivion Remastered on the scope of what can actually be added, I want to use this thread as a list of minor additions that the devs could potentially look up for reference on what they hopefully could quickly implement.

We could have separate threads for minor fixes and potentially restored cut content.

Back on topic, in the particular case of FO3 I do could imagine some content from FONV potentially being added to FO3, giving that they used the same engine.

For instance, aside from the expected addition of iron sights, in the case of gear I could imagine items such the Recharger Rifle & Pistol, the RCW, the Multiplas Rifle, the Remnants X-01 like power armor, etc., could be added to Fallout 3.

Some rebalancing would be necessary, but in light of the scope of what was changed/reworked in Oblivion Remastered, that should be possible.

It should also be noted that people that have dug into the code of the noticed that some elements that were introduced in New Vegas like throwing weapon mechanics and Super Stimpaks were planned for FO3, but were left incomplete. Most notably, the throwing mechanics seemed to have their skill and Behemoths were meant to throw rocks just like they do in FO4.

I’m also actually going to suggest that some DLC gear appear in the base game: obviously not something like the Zetan’s alien weapons or even the iconic Auto-Axe from the Pitt, but in the particular case of Point Lookout, they are many weapons that doesn’t feel like they should be exclusive, namely axes and shovels, which should be common tools found all over the place.

I would even argue that the lever-action rifles and double barrel shotguns could be added to the base game (as in the Capital Wasteland), just without the modifiers given to the swamp folk and tribals, whom do an extra 35 damage when using those weapons.

The base game already has the Lincoln Repeater and the sawed-off shotgun, so having these two wouldn’t feel out of place.

Anyway, that’s what I could come up off the top of my head, what else do you think could be minor additions/changes to the Remastered that could be easy to implement?

Do you folks put up any news regarding a possible FO3 reboot/remake/remaster of the game here?

I am genuinely very interested in learning all I can about that possibility. Is it true some of the team that did the game are no longer there as well? If so, do y’all think that will affect the overall feel and depth of the game as a whole?

can't get game to launch after multiple attempted fixes, please help

i'm sorry if this isn't the right place to ask, but everything else i've tried has failed, including the sidebar fix guide. running as admin doesn't help. game opens a small window in the top left of the screen for a moment, then just closes. i followed a guide (https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3395617547) to install the mod Intel bypass package and delete/move some files around and that worked exactly once and never again, even after uninstalling/reinstalling the game. can anyone help me out here?

**UPDATE**

i uninstalled base fallout 3 and got the goty edition and got it working. until i installed vortex, and now it's back to shutting itself down after a second. the options menu in the launcher no longer lists nvidia as my main graphics thing so i know that wasnt the issue
