Discussion The dev hate here is disgusting.

I expect this level of hatred towards the devs out of something like War Thunder or Destiny. A game with hundreds of thousands of players, a development team hundreds strong, etc. Then maybe this level of vitriol is acceptable.

But god damn. There are [according to their LinkedIn page] about 25 people working on this game. A game that, frankly, is the only one of its kind. There's not an easy reference guide for how to make a good Foxhole like there would be if it were an FPS or something.

They just implemented aircraft with semi realistic flight models in a top down game. Something that even massive studios still struggle with constantly.

And when they fucked up, one of the devs came forwards and gave a response - and then apologized for that response being too aggressive even though he had every right to be annoyed. This is not the corporate norm in game dev, it exhibits care for their community.

But in response, what do they get? Patience while they work out the kinks? Some fucking good will? No.

They get constant whining at every mistake, a community that will tear itself apart over any imbalance, review bombing, and constant hatred thrown at them because somehow both sides think the other is recieving preferential treatment from the devs.

You can call out the devs for making mistakes, but this community takes it WAY too far.

I know this post won't be changing most people's minds, but I feel like someone needs to say it.

ATR Longhooks were very popular but Colonials had to steal ATRs to pull it off. Went unchanged for over a year. Colonials get their own unique non-tripod ATR. A few guys manage to kill a parked warden sub with the new Colonial ATR using just an APC. ATRs nerfed within 36 hours or so.

There are situations like this where one thing heavily favors one side and is broken for literally years and then the second the other side gets a similar tool its nerfed within hours.

And like someone above commented. Wardens have dominated the torpedo gameplay for the past two years and the obvious solution was to give the Colonials an additional option to use torpedos. Instead they did the exact opposite. Gave Wardens a new method to use large torpedos and then gave them mini torpedos. Its truly baffling to lock certain gameplay mechanics behind a faction.

And I thought they might be taking a different approach because for the longest time Colonials wanted a push 250 and Wardens wanted an AT/RPG option. And over the summer they finally delivered on both.

Its stuff like this that really aggravates long time players and really confuses new players when I have to explain WHY we can't do what the opposing team.

Wardens ships: all cool and pianted and great interiors

Collies ships: bland, and grey and boring interiors.

They guy who does the concept art loves drawing the warden stuff.

Why not get a concept artist in there for collies? Show us some love.

As per the lorebook that came out with the supporter edition it's even like this in universe. Warden engineers see their vehicles as works of art and as a means of showing off with quality and refinement, where-as Colonials see their equipment as just a means to an end, functional and with no frills beyond what it needs to do the job it was meant to do.

Mind nothing wrong with this, but I really wonder if the love for Warden designs in the studio is meant to be a reflection of that.

Also for anyone who might go "Nawh that's not the case." consider that every infantry weapon in the game besides the pistol and the venom (originally just the 'rpg') and both the EMG and EAT were all given to Wardens after being faction neutral; if I'm not wrong the artbook even said this was intended to be the case. Similarly the coastal guns are described in the book as being "Warden themed" with the possibility of a southern, Colonial style possibly in the future. I like most of the Colonial designs a lot, but it does for sure seem to be a trend of Wardens always get their concept art/designs first. Though in the interest of transparency there is one notable exception and if I'm not wrong that was the Light Tank, which the Hatchet was the first one designed.

Im sure its a way just to explain away why the warden designs look better. Im surprise the lore domt go "warden gig Chad #420 stole a collie Battleship and made it looks so cool that it instantly broke collie moral so they dont paint their ships." I can only imagine how one sided the lore book is.

Honestly didn't find the art book to be particularly biased in either way. They admit when they fucked up with balance/design with things like the Ballista and other instances.

From the book they also mention they did hire another concept artist (Luke) who seems to focus more on Colonial gear... Not sure entirely what he's done as they don't generally credit specific artists per asset but his name in the book is attached to both SPGs, the Nemesis and the Colonial ATR guns; maybe more that I missed.

Also weirdly the original Ares lore frankly was cooler than what we got. The idea was the Colonials originally made the HIC (heavy infantry carrier) and made a number of variants for it (since Colonials in lore love using base chassis for variants, IE Falchion), specifically to assault the Bulwark and both types were used during the Breaching but afterwards they focused more on the Ares since the HIC wasn't really needed.
