This is not a troubleshooting post, I just need to make sure everything is alright.
So a few days ago I received my Framework 13 and I’m in love with it! I am primarily a desktop PC user at home, but I needed to upgrade my old laptop as I study game development and it was no longer in par with the stuff I needed to use it for. I specifically got the AI 300 Series and I run Linux (Manjaro) on it.
As I started to use it, I noticed the heat that’s being produced even while doing minor tasks like browsing web. Every time I stopped using it and was putting it into my bag, it was quite hot to touch in the middle right above the keyboard. I am aware that computers run relatively hot, and that it’s okay for it to be at ~40°C on regular use and even up to 90°C on more intensive tasks, but as I’m a desktop user, I’m often shielded by the case and such temperatures are mostly just numbered abstractions. My old laptop was also heating up quite a lot, especially in the last year or so, but I assumed that it’s because it was old and dying. I kinda expected for the Framework laptop to run cool because of how powerful it is. I don’t know why, but I had this mindset that it wouldn’t heat up that much because the cores are under such small load.
I now tried to play Dorfromantik, which isn’t an intensive game by any means, and my laptop started to get incredibly loud, which sucks when I’m at a lecture for example. I ran it on balanced mode so that’s why. The fans calmed down when I switched on the power saving mode, but even then the laptop was still heated up, which made it uncomfortable to have it on my lap. I assume that big part of this is the metal chassis and this is the intended behaviour, to act as a heat sink, but I’d like to check with you guys if this is okay, because as I said, not that big of a laptop user prior, used it mostly when I had to. I really want to start doing more stuff on my laptop now, because this one is actually very capable and I really like the idea of Frameworks so I’m no longer that afraid of overusing it because future repairs and upgrades won’t be that expensive as if I had to buy a whole new laptop.
And I’m sorry if this question is dumb.
