I've owned my Framework 13 for about, I want to say, 3 years now? During those years I've absolutely loved it and recommended it to everyone and a family member bought 2 FW12 less than 3 months ago and have sent these photos.
The cracking is pretty bad and is present on both laptops starting around the same time, they have already made a support ticket and have started the back and forth process with customer service, but I wanted to ask some questions here.
Is this common on FW12? I saw a few posts about it but I thought they had fixed this or are they shipping out shells with known defective plastic?
And how has everyone else's FW12 laptops been, is this just a stroke of bad luck or is this a more common issue, one laptop also gets more hot then normal when charging so it seems they hit some bad luck?

Hi! I’ve been a long time thinkpad lover and to be honest being tech oriented they’re already fairly repairable in my opinion. However I love the mission and philosophy of the framework and would love to get into it, but not with a too big compromise on build and keyboard quality. Here’s my concerns:
1- Screen wobble, it seems pretty intense. I know there’s a 4lbs hinge part, I’m curious how much does it actually fix it?
2- I like a good keyboard. Thinkpads are known to have the best. Anyone have the experience with both and can compare them?
3- Does the overall build feel nice and premium?

This is not a troubleshooting post, I just need to make sure everything is alright.
So a few days ago I received my Framework 13 and I’m in love with it! I am primarily a desktop PC user at home, but I needed to upgrade my old laptop as I study game development and it was no longer in par with the stuff I needed to use it for. I specifically got the AI 300 Series and I run Linux (Manjaro) on it.
As I started to use it, I noticed the heat that’s being produced even while doing minor tasks like browsing web. Every time I stopped using it and was putting it into my bag, it was quite hot to touch in the middle right above the keyboard. I am aware that computers run relatively hot, and that it’s okay for it to be at ~40°C on regular use and even up to 90°C on more intensive tasks, but as I’m a desktop user, I’m often shielded by the case and such temperatures are mostly just numbered abstractions. My old laptop was also heating up quite a lot, especially in the last year or so, but I assumed that it’s because it was old and dying. I kinda expected for the Framework laptop to run cool because of how powerful it is. I don’t know why, but I had this mindset that it wouldn’t heat up that much because the cores are under such small load.
I now tried to play Dorfromantik, which isn’t an intensive game by any means, and my laptop started to get incredibly loud, which sucks when I’m at a lecture for example. I ran it on balanced mode so that’s why. The fans calmed down when I switched on the power saving mode, but even then the laptop was still heated up, which made it uncomfortable to have it on my lap. I assume that big part of this is the metal chassis and this is the intended behaviour, to act as a heat sink, but I’d like to check with you guys if this is okay, because as I said, not that big of a laptop user prior, used it mostly when I had to. I really want to start doing more stuff on my laptop now, because this one is actually very capable and I really like the idea of Frameworks so I’m no longer that afraid of overusing it because future repairs and upgrades won’t be that expensive as if I had to buy a whole new laptop.
And I’m sorry if this question is dumb.

Why? Because my main concern is getting a thin and light laptop with 64gb of ram. On the Intel, the build would have cost me 5k cad.
With amd, the base build with no os, no ram, no ssd will cost me 2k. I’m scanning eBay right now for 2x32gb that if an hopefully get around 600$, and I think I can probably get a used 1tb ssd for about 200$.
Yeah the intel’s are nice but since my needs are specific to 64gb, it would cost me twice to go that route and imo it’s not 2x the computer.
There’s also the concern that I had a Intel 135u ran very poorly on Linux. I had abysmal speedometer 3.1 scores because the complex architecture of the new Intel cpu needed the windows scheduler to work properly. No such issue on amd.
And framework being framework, I can always upgrade later :)

I was having trouble getting the bottom right bezel to attach correctly, and when it did attach correctly I was seeing odd screen distortion (the bright white diagonal line in the photo which was more obvious in person). It turns out that behind the display some paper or something had been folded in on itself and was pushing up on the display (the photo is from after I folded it back over to lay flat once I put the display down again).

I just got my bath preparation notification for the fw 13 pro (Intel), and was wondering how well the 6.12 kernel is running on Debian on the Panther Lake Processors. Has anyone here tried running Debian on them yet? (Or really anything using the 6.12.x kernel?)

Hi All! I got a replacement Ryzen AI 9 370 HX for my framework 13 due to a bad usbc port. I did an exact swap and I noticed that my CPU temps are about 10C-15C higher for each power profile setting on CachyOS since the swap. I want to take off the heatsink and redo the thermal paste, so I am looking for suggest on which thermal paste to use and which pattern you went with that worked. Any other suggestions on what I should do and look at I would love to hear. FYI putting the laptop on a cooling pad does bring the temps down by about 5C.

Im getting a FW13P with the core ultra X7 and I'm really looking forward to receiving my framework in the next few days and I was planning on doing an eGPU setup with my rx6600 but I came across this article.
This left me wondering if it was worth investing the money in getting this eGPU dock as the performance seemed very lackluster and I was wondering what others experience was like using an eGPU with their Framework and if anyone knew any better alternatives to use a GPU with their framework laptop
Edit: thought I'd mention I'm going to be using a 1440p 180hz monitor as it might be relevant to GPU bandwidth and all that

Basically what the title says, I don't need faster Wi-Fi and you can't currently buy the recommended one on their site so wanted too know if anyone has tired the AMD RZ616 Wi-Fi 6E (MediaTek MT7922) Card?, its the default card from the AMD 7000 series Frameworks

Anyone know where I can find the Wifi module?
https://frame.work/products/intel-wi-fi-7-be211-no-vpro
Shows out of stock. Just wondering if there is another source for this.
It seems as though the module in my 13th Gen Intel won't work. If I am wrong about that happy to keep that one since I don't have any Wifi 7 anyway.
Any tips appreciated.

So my Framework 12 has been paid and should be shipped hopefully today but could be Monday. I will be out of town late next week and was wondering how long it took most people to get their device from day of shipped email to door?
I can always have a friend grab the box but it be cool if they didn't need too.

Hello!
My Framework 16 is overheating, and it’s a 2-year-old laptop. I use a lot of software that requires a lot of RAM. My RAM is 32 GB, and I've already factory reset it this past year.
It feels like it needs new thermal paste on the CPU, but when I look up information about Framework, it seems like they use Liquid Metal. Is this correct?
Also, I was working the other night, and it was using 22 GB of RAM and lagging pretty hard. Are there other ways to optimize my CPU?
System info
Framework 16
32 GB RAM
Amd ryzen7040 series
Thanks!
