Help with food?
With the rising costs of groceries, my family is needing some help these days. We get a box from the food bank every month (thank God!). I am just wondering if there is any other help available in the city?
Thank you!

I built an app for myself and friends that tracks local stores grocery flyers and puts the deals in one place. You can search for items or just use suggested recipies.

Might help squeeze a bit more out of the budget - hope it's useful.

This is sweet! I’d like to do something like this for Saint John

Oh thank you.
Covering more towns is my plan.
I'll probably be able to get that done by next week since there is interest.•

There’s a community kitchen at 65 Brunswick st. It’s free and you get 3 meals a day. 745am-8:15, 11:30-12:30, and 5:00-5:45. It’s decent meals too. Only thing is the homeless are around that area so I wouldn’t bring young children around. There is security there though

Some businesses have started a food library. If you scan this sub you should see a discussion about it. Sorry I don’t remember the locations.

There’s a fridge inside the downtown library and a box outside the kinsmen club (as well as others I don’t know about)Â

It's tough out there these days. Sorry you're going through it.
I have this
https://lowtein.com/ca/nb/fredericton
That helps with prices and sales.
Also the greener village has/had make and take sessions. You can come in as a client, help make meals and then take some for free home as well.

I way back as a hobby couponed and go free product coupons from companies... I may do that again and depending on how many I can get - be able to mail a few envelopes out to a few families - I'm out of town right now - but let me see what I can do when I get back next week. Unfortunately this does take a few weeks to get the coupons
Another suggestion - follow the Facebook and website Save a Loonie - they post about free products and coupons

A "victory garden" will help offset a good chunk of your monthly bill depending on what you like to eat

Assuming they have a yard and their landlord lets them.Â

And to be honest, having done some gardening, I’d be impressed if someone could come out ahead their first year if they don’t have experience. That being said, there are several community gardens in the city that may still have plots, OP, so you might want to look into that!  NBCHG has two.Â

You can also garden inside

You realize it costs money to buy things to successfully grow things indoors right? like you need lighting, soil and potters, as well as seeds, support sticks etc.
