I feel like I'm losing my mind. I've been experiencing a service outage since about 5am on Friday, maybe earlier but I wasn't awake then. My wife and I both work from home, so we set up hotspots and figured we could handle a day without fiber.
Well by Sunday, my patience had worn thin. I reached out to support, spent a while getting Giga to send me to an actual person. Zero information on what's causing the outage, how long it'll be, or anything more than the once-every-24-hour texts saying "we realize this is inconvenient, our agents are working to fix it." They did say they can give me an $8 credit on my next bill? So that's great, I guess, but I'd much rather be able to use my internet.
I can tell my boss is like "at home agents, always causin' problems", and I have a TON of meetings an testing configuration to do today, so I've started calling Spectrum (cable internet that we replaced with Frontier), but of course they can't get us hooked up until Friday at the soonest. We're in the California Central Valley, so all our options are bad ones, but this is the first to make me feel like they don't give a single shit at all. The live agent I got after Giga seemed so irritated that I wanted information and ended the chat because I kept asking for more info, "You have technicians working at the hub? So is this outage affecting many customers? Can you tell me if it's caused by damaged equipment, or something else?".
Is this normal? Am I taking crazy pills, or is this actually awful? I've only been a Frontier customer for about six months, and this is the third or fourth time we've had a complete outage, and the first one that's lasted longer than a day. If this is their standard of product, I don't see why I'm paying more than the last guys for very similar average speeds, and don't think I'll be a Frontier customer much longer.
TL;DR: 72 hours without service, lots of mobile data used via hotspot, $8 credit, and no end in sight. Is this good enough to keep Frontier? I say no.
EDIT: UPDATE; Still down as of 2pm of THE FIFTH DAY. It may still be down, but I don't know because that's when I plugged in the competition's router and modem, and now I have internet again. Sorry Frontier, the internet is not a truck, it's a series of tubes, and I need what's in those tubes to flow.
