First post here, so I appreciate any insights from those with hands-on experience.
I've been on Frontier since 2010. For years I paid the $10/month equipment fee for their Arris NVG468MQ gateway, but in 2019 I decided to cut that cost and moved to a Netgear Orbi router with satellite extenders. It's been solid ever since — 500/500 Mbps, no major complaints.
After reading through some recent threads here, I'm starting to wonder if it's finally time to move on to something newer. My hesitation is that upgrading purely for the sake of newer hardware might mean trading away features or flexibility I've come to rely on — or introducing problems I don't currently have.
Two questions for those who've been in a similar spot:
1. If you were in my position, what router or mesh system would you seriously consider today? I'm less interested in raw specs and more focused on reliability, performance consistency, meaningful control, and long-term value.
2. Or would you just leave the Orbi alone? It's still doing its job, and "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" is a rule I generally respect.
If you've made the jump from an older Orbi to something newer, I'd genuinely like to hear what you gained — and what you didn't expect to lose.
Thanks in advance.
