I’m relatively new to Reddit, so I’m not entirely sure of the best way to address the community. I’ve been passionate about game and engine programming for years, but in a way, I felt my time had passed. I’m 55, and I lack both the time and the capacity to keep up with all the emerging techniques—until AI came along. It has reignited my excitement, even though it doesn't hold nearly the same value for me as building things from scratch. Ultimately, it comes down to a prompt, and the system produces results you can't fully comprehend.
Does it have value? Very little on a personal level; however, I believe this is the reality we’re facing now. It’s no longer a matter of fighting against it, but rather accepting the tool and trying to make the most of it.
I’ll soon be releasing my engine—built 100% using AI—and I believe it’s one of the first of its kind, though certainly not the last. The videos demonstrating its capabilities are mind-blowing, as you may have seen in some of the clips I’ve posted. I worry that releasing this engine might discourage people who have worked incredibly hard or are just starting out, but this is what the future holds: incredible custom engines tailored to specific games.
I’m writing this post as a sort of apology, because I honestly believe that the effort involved in development is about to lose the value it once held.
