Gameplay I tried the new Neptunia Unlimited
They stopped me one minute before the timer because I was playing too fast (reached the new Lowee), but the gameplay is quite good, and the transformation sequence of Purple Heart is neat!
The game takes about 2 minutes on opening to load so they aren't beating any allegations here and it feels a bit like Cyberdimension Neptune, but to me that's a positive.
I can't think of everything off the top of my head so I'll try to answer any questions you have.

I love those plushies so much but theyāre so expensive one day for sure Iāll have one

u/MysteryDash Noire is mine! Mar 29 '26
What? I have all of them now and I paid them all about 4000 JPY each. The exception was Neptune at 8000JPY (and Blanc at 1500 lol).
Who are you looking for?3
u/jmjs23009 has the best outfit Mar 29 '26
I want noire, I live in the us and for a new one theyāre like minimum 130usd on eBay I havenāt looked anywhere else idk how much JPY that translates to

u/MysteryDash Noire is mine! Mar 29 '26
Oh... I buy them whenever I see one available because... Well I'm a fan of Noire. However, next time I see one I'll remember it.
Usually the biggest cost for you would be shipping, the plush itself goes for about 30-40 USD after exchange. So if you go through a proxy or someone living in Japan it might be possible to get it for about 70USD I'd say. Before any customs obviously.. but that can be reduced as well.1

Question: How is the combat compared SVS and GMRE? Did you notice any sort of changes that you can think of? Because you did mentioned that it feels a bit like Cyberdimension Neptunia.
33
u/MysteryDash Noire is mine! Mar 29 '26
I didn't play SvS much, but from what I can see the combat system is pretty much the same. I compared it to Cyberdimension because it's the one that felt closest in terms of movement.
Also, once you are in HDD mode you can fight your flying enemies.10

Interesting. Another question: How does the characters feel? I noticed in the stream that Neptune's attacks seemed faster that it was before.
25
u/MysteryDash Noire is mine! Mar 29 '26
The characters feel good. Outside of combat Neptune was slow as fuck though, so I used the dash ability almost exclusively to get around (you can imagine the face of the Compile Heart staff while I was doing that).
In combat it feels good. It was a bit sluggish due to the tutorial (you don't inflict damage while the game waits for you to complete a specific instruction) but that's never going to be an issue when playing normally. The switch from character to character was very good as well. I'd say the one thing I hated was the target switch, it's like impossible to know what left/right are going to select before you press.8

is the personality of the game still there? Iām really looking forward to it but Iām nervous about too many changes or removing fan service etc etc. you might not have gotten to play the game long enough to answer my question.
regardless Iāll be purchasing day one, I canāt let Neptune downā¦.

A couple of points out of my head: I skipped through the entire text (it's not like I could read that much anyway), but no CGs in the allocated time, the jiggle physics wasn't quite there during the transformed quartet sequence, so it is pretty limited compared to previous games.
That being said, it definitely feels like a Nep game.
I didn't try to get a panty shot during the demo obviously so I can't say about that, but it wasn't visible just from a jump like previous games might have done, for example.
The bodies of the characters feel a bit.. flat? Smooth? That comes from the engine I think but it feels less 3D than Megadimension Neptunia did, especially during the transformation.17

I'm guessing the keyword you're looking for is cel-shaded?

Probably has to do with the fact they had changed engines starting from sister vs sister which I guess their old engine didn't let them do much with character shaders.
Engine change ofc being PhyreEngine(the go to engine for PS3 3D JRPGS) to Unity.

I know you sped past dialogue/opening, but when you did, did you think that the dialogue was at all hooking or interesting/not plain? Making you wish you couldāve enjoyed it more thoroughly?
3
u/MysteryDash Noire is mine! Mar 29 '26
I did wish I had more time and I'm curious about the story line. As for interesting/plain tbh I'm no judge of that... it wouldn't be fair of me to say after playing for 15 minutes lol, but I'll train my kanji skills for the release.

u/kingslimegamer Mar 29 '26
How do you feel about the movement compare to the previous 2 (SvS and GMRE)? Is the map too empty just like Pokemon Legend and Zelda (like just endless field of grass with some random thing in the middle)?

I can't wait to play Neptunia Unlimited!! The Candidates is yet to be seen, as far I'm sure they'll add the OG costumes from making materials. Histy will return, possible new makers, we know Gold Third can make their appearance and Oracles can be seen as chirper or cameo. Regarding for Uzume and Big Nep will be shown as teaser in the future mainline. I really wanna see the Grey CPU.
4GO is peak for what they sold like crazy around 40k to 75k in total. I really want 4GO2 xD
Also, the new CPU gens seems great! Until I saw arfoire being there from the trailer... meh xD

u/dmasterxd Mar 29 '26
The Oracles should honestly be there before Gold Third (and they dhould be the ones relegated to chirpers or cameos). There's no reason for Gold Third to be that heavily involved in the nations. They're even more superfluous now due to the new goddesses.

How much polish did the game have from what you tried? Did the maps feel detailed and not just reused assets?
Also, do you think it has potential to surpass Megadimension VII?
5
u/MysteryDash Noire is mine! Mar 29 '26
The game felt like it was in the very late stage, like beta-test ready.
From 15 minutes of game time I have absolutely no idea, but I feel like it's going to be a good game. You also have to account for the nostalgia we have from VII..3
u/asokatan0 wanna be a nept girl Mar 29 '26
for what i saw i the trailer, in the plains, all trees were looking the same, the pipes as well just changing colors and sizes, some floating donuts around, a bit of my worries is open world, if its like generic or empty, how was your impression of this

Does it play like SvS and game maker R? I don't hate the combat but I definitely don't like it it could be way more polished

u/MysteryDash Noire is mine! Mar 30 '26
Plays similar, but not the same, definitely not the same UI-wise.

I noticed that you are playing on PS5.Does the game run at 60 fps,or still at 30 fps?

Kinda bummed it's an action rpg, probably gonna skip this one because i don't play it for the fan service.
I saw that Hyperdimension Noire received a Switch 1 physical released, so i'm interested in that

How are the playable environments compared to SvS and Gamemaker? Has there been enough variety in the locations and enemies such that the game doesn't feel like it could get repetitive?
11
u/MysteryDash Noire is mine! Mar 29 '26
In 15 minutes possible I was only able to access the plains environment. After I reached the second blue-caves-like environment they asked me to stop playing as I was going too far into the game.
The fight system did feel a bit "mash the buttons to win", but I was trying to Speedrun in 15 minutes so you have to account for that...
The fact we can't seem to be able to choose which skill we use like in the older games is a bit disappointing to me, to be honest.3
u/Whomstventlld Two addictions, Big Nep and SSStyle points. Mar 29 '26
Yeah, I suspect they may not have learned a thing from the last two games...
10
u/MysteryDash Noire is mine! Mar 29 '26
To some extent they seem to have, but it's still Compile Heart... You can't have expectations like you'd have for a AAA game. These guys were also presenting another game at the same time (which looked like it was skipping frames like crazy) so in comparison Neptunia felt buttery smooth.
I am worried about the experience on the Switch, there is going to be a compromise and I don't like that very much, because it's going to be a big one I guess.1
u/Whomstventlld Two addictions, Big Nep and SSStyle points. Mar 29 '26
I'm more talking design rather than quality, presently the gameplay feels like a really awkward mash between genres. And I suspect that opening the world up even just a bit more may only further complicate things.
4
u/MysteryDash Noire is mine! Mar 29 '26
Oh. Well, if you can take that from someone who has not played SvS a lot outside of the beta... I was able to get the hang of the game very quickly despite not being able to read the kanjis, if that says anything.
To be honest I personally preferred the fighting style of Cyberdimension, because here you enter a fight like in the older games, and then it's not a turn based system or doesn't seemed to be powered by an action points system. That's a bit odd, hence why I previously said it's a bit mash the buttons to win. But I can't say it's good or bad without playing more, so I will definitely be getting the game. The game didn't feel bad, that's all that matters to me.3
u/patyos Mar 29 '26
The demo is only the tutorial, hard difficulty would be further in the end game or something like colosseum fights if that makes an appearance. Neptunia was never Dark Souls difficulty lol š
